I wanted to see Maris transfer. Ive known him since he came over to the US and joined Free Agent. Good guy. He did a lot for my son. Connor did as well. Glad to see all 3 americans transfer out. I think the wreck with Liam hurt Maris, he didnt look 100% 2nd round. Oh well, now he can focus on a usabmx title again.

Is there any particular reason that there were so many big crashes on that track? I'm far from an expert when it comes to BMX racing but it seemed like there were more crashes today than there usually is?

It was very windy, could that be a factor?

Just watched 20 mins or so of the bmx on BBC1, the main tv station in the UK, it's showing all the Olympics and has had viewing numbers around 9 million people every evening.... Pretty big deal, chatted about the bmx at work this morning and NOBODY is into bikes at all, pedal or motor, it's pretty cool.

I'm not really an expert myself, more a casual fan. But it did seem like there was a lot more crashes than usual today. There were hardly any crashes yesterday during the seeding runs, so I don't think the track is necessarily too difficult or dangerous, it's just easy to make a mistake, and everyone is so close together that one mistake can cause a pileup

The second straight, where the majority of crashes happened had a 20+ mph head wind. Coming out of the first turn you could see when it gusted up they slid slightly to the outside. Hence why one heat they rolled the double in to turn 2.

The Dutch guy who broke his wheel off (Kimman, ex-world champ) on that huge jump touched Frenchmen Daudet on lift off.

Walked over the line with half a bike and still qualified for the semis. Badass.

The wind played a big part in the crash's but the track that they all protested last year was only partially fixed , all they did after the initial repairs is dress it all up with the green paint. The first corner has a hump in it causing them to all check up a bit and if they don't they get a wheel hop and sketch out.

Tomorrow 2 gates of 8 , 3 heats , top 4 from each race one lap for the Gold and that is even odd because they do not do it like this in any other race.
The other thing they do in the USA is scramble the heats every round, here they do not.

That was badass, except for the fork company.Whistling The move from Graf was kind of lame that took out Phillips and Maris but, atleast he's in the semi's and will have a chance to do the same.Shocked Sam looks tough to beat. Daudet was who I thought would win. Crazy racing so far.

That pic was from practice on Tuesday. Thats the final jump on the second straight going in to turn 2. The gap they jumped is the second turn for the womens lane.

2nd straight had a 20 mph head wind as somebody else stated already.

Yup, compare that to the unrelenting pantomime acting we see so constantly in the Soccer (and so many other 'mainstream' sports) .

Anyone see the Brazilian Soccer Superstar, who got what I thought I heard was a goal in record time, with a 'header'? Yes, great goal. He dived for the header, landing on his stomach. Got up, pranced around taking in the adoration for his heroics, then decided he was terribly hurt - got stretchered off. Came back on, Grimaced a few more times throughout the event. And yes, I might be a heartless, vicious bastard, and, he may well have been hurt badly - but I'd be very surprised a fit young athlete got hurt doing a 'belly flop then surf ' like that Plenty more zillion dollar players put on the usual soccer act, throughout.the game. Now, I appreciate their immense skill, and, they sure as hell do get hurt at times, however, the BS / trying to get penalties constantly just leaves me cold. But, the Soccer followers lap it up, and worship these blokes. Probably because the vast majority of said followers have never done anything more risky than kicking a ball about. 'Normal' people are so very different to we skilled, two wheeled sportsmen and women.

This one : I've nothing whatsoever against CF, and, I doubt those forks would ever fail under normal race conditions / impacts / forces they were made to take. That they snapped off, from the huge side load / impact , shows how hard a hit it was. And, the bloke (and others) gets up, picks up his bike, and makes damned sure he registered a finish. That's the way to do a sport!

He's had some bad luck at the Olympics, especially seeing he seems soooo much faster than the others...

That's the way the cookies crumble - that's BMX.

My lovely GF got up at 2am to watch with me. She was going somewhat ape over Anthony's and Sam's domination in the semis, and was puzzled why I seemed so calm - well accusing me of being fatalistic and giving me a few elbows for my lack of faith. She, was devastated by the result (and Buchanan's prang), me, I kind of expected it. Comes down to one , single race, not the ones before it.

Shit happens, especially if you've been in the same starting spot / first straight line for so many successive races. And, you've won so many of those races.

Congratulations to Connor, and Mariana. That third place tie(?) between Long and Ramirez Yepes, was a pearler - though, the picture put up by our coverage here, must have not been the frame that the judges / timing went off, as it looked like the Colombian got it

Sam Willoughby had a bad crash this weekend at the amateur track at Chula Vista. Has anyone heard how he is doing? The reports I'm hearing are not good. Hopefully he makes a full recovery. Get well soon Sam.

That sucks to hear, I would not want to go down on that track (even the am track) I could see easily getting hurt. First time I rode it I took like 5-6 runs before even trying to go somewhat fast.
