It goes without saying that 2016 did not go well whatsoever for Stew. It honestly went about as bad as could go. Now he did have some great things in his personal life. He and his family were blessed with a healthy baby boy and Seven seemed to prosper but from a racing point of view It was pretty much a disaster. If we assume that he no longer will be with Yosh, as they are rumored to be a 250 only team next year, then where could he end up? I think he will either get support from someone and run under his Seven brand (possibly still on a Suzuki or maybe Honda) or get a contract based on results.

Options look slim to none on paper.

Monster Energy Kawasaki-zero chance
Joe Gibbs or Factory Yamaha-zero chance.
Red Bull KTM BTO Husqvarna-zero chance. Roger.
Factory Honda or Geico-don't see it happening
RCH-they could use a high profile name to replace Kenny . incentive based contract?

Any serious thoughts on this. Stew is still one of If not the most popular rider in the pits so that should be a selling point but with this past seasons issues it would have to be result based.

Curious on thoughts. Serious ones. Let's not make this a hate or love thread. Just what may be possible options. I don't see him retiring yet.

I think it was more a common "guess" than common knowledge.

No way on RCH. They arent going to take the risk and cost of prepping out bikes that sit.

The best option for JS is to try and finish two motos in a row....and then go from there

Cost wise, it'd be a rounding error compared to what they've already invested in Stew. And who knows: maybe he could show up in shape this time. He was lurking near the front last year until Dungey cleaned his clock.
You say he should sell EZ ups? Laughing

JS7s best option for 2017 is the couch, where he seems to have spent most of 2015 and 2016.

I'm a huge Stewart fan now but IMO the comeback train has already left the station. If not for the A1 concussion he might have been able to race himself back into shape but we'll never know.

A-1 concussion was huge....!!! He looked great and ready to compete. In the end his style in the early days is catching up to him. To many bell ringers of epic proportion.
Any human with double digit concussion counts would likely have a permanent effect in terms of mental focus and obviously other typical post-concussion symptoms (depression, headaches, dizzyness) would linger longer, sometimes over a year.

I'd be surprised James himself would actually admit how bad it is affecting him, esp if he wants to attract any sort of deals or rides for 2017.

I think we've seen enough proof though.

Like Lance Armstrong said, it's not about the bike!

Stewart will go wherever he gets the best deal financially, he won't be too bothered about the bike IMO as it's going to make little difference to his performance at this stage of his career. Better to get the best deal that he can financially, stay clean, then hit the gym and actually turn up to race in some kind of shape.

We don't really know how he's doing for cash, there have been WAY bigger earners than Stewart end up with nothing after a glittering career.

But it's irrelevant anyway, having money doesn't stop you wanting more money, especially in the final stages of a sports career.

He's not going to win anyway, so why not take the cash? I would.

He to see him at least stay on a Suzuki. Is his contract up? Assuming it is, he could probably get a 1-year contract with them, or any brand. He's still popular, and sat out the biggest amount of time because of the stupid WADA thing.

The Tomac thread got me thinking. Tomac to Suzuki and the Stewart brothers to Kawasaki.

the only problem with this is JS's history with Kawasaki, unless a bridge has been built and they have gotten over it

How about another out there scenario... Honda might be getting some money from JJ, would that mean they could afford another rider under their tent i.e. Tomac?

Yes I know its pushing it lol

Where Jimmy Stew ends up next year could be largely dependent on his relationship with Red Bull. They can make it lucrative enough for him to race for no team paid salary at all, or they can pull the plug, which would either put him on the couch, or open the door for another big sponsor.

All things can be repaired and Monster could double down and expand their marketing reach at the same time. Kawasaki gets Mookie and one of the premier Red Bull athletes (James) to switch.

On that note, most riders transition well to the "old" Suzuki. One year Suzuki contract for Tomac, then on to Red Bull KTM for 2018.

I don't understand people saying this over and over, he was one of the best riders on the track at A1. We'll never know because the concussion accident happened but he was on it before that.

He has two option to choose from.

1. Xbox One

2. Play Station 4

That's about it.

He was one of the best rider how ? He got a good start and was up front for a lap and half. The dude looked like he was 20 pounds overweight with a donut around his waste. It took him most of the summer to trim down. Now he can barely finish one moto with his fitness.

If you guys consider James heavy with a "doughnut" around his waist, what do you call someone who really is heavy and has a "doughnut" around their waist. Blink

Just my opinion, sitting in the stands watching heats and racing that day. I watched more than a lap and a half.

Just because fat has become the new normal in Merica doesn't mean that fat isn't fat.

Well put.

But for the elite level athlete that he is supposed to be he is rather chunky when you consider all the other people he lined up against have 6 packs or damn near close to it and he's rocking the dad bod
