I think it's more the fact that the riders are starting to prioritise (or are contractually obliged to participate in) commercially driven vanity projects like RedBull Straight Rythm and new SMX Cup over the one annual event that the whole Motocross world has been coming together for since 1947.

Maybe or maybe the mxdn doesn't hold the appeal that you all hope. The Olympic Games happen every 4 years, things like the Ryder cup are every other year. It's quite possible these guys are sick of giving up a month of their year for this race that happens every single year.

So instead they'd rather use this time to make potentially quite a bit more money which is really the reason they now ride their dirt bikes 300 days a year

There wasn't all the other races either.

However, professional athletes have a lot of commitments year round. One thing you wont see is the time they put in during the off season. Being the type of athlete Tomac is you know he is physically training year round as well. You guys act like they don't still ride and train in October, November, and December, which are the only months they are "off" other than September, which Eli looks have some races lined up in both September and October.

While it is a bummer I can't blame him either,

Eli will race 8 1/2 months this year full time (with only a few breaks) and then he is racing 2 weekends in October. He will still train year round. I don't blame him, if I were him I would tell SMX and Monster Cup to suck it.

Also, Olympics is once every 4 years, not every year, little bit of a difference there and the Olympics is more glorified, would be cool to see mx in the olympics.
Well.. NHL players grind 82 games during regular season and some of them will play the playoffs on top of that.. If their team drops out, most of the superstars will go to 3 weeks tournament of world championship hockey if asked. Every year.
For example Ovechkin will go to play for team Russia EVERY year if not injured and Washington drops out.

i would say they would dedicate themselves with the travel and prep work at minimum 2 weeks up to 4

Good for ovechkin but because he likes to do that everyone else should as well?

All you guys are so selfish when it comes to THEIR time, so why can't they?

That's a lame excuse. There's only really the Monster Cup that is anything. That is three 10 lappers. Red Bull straight rhythm is what? 4 45 second runs?

Plenty of comments, so I will just say, I am sad that one of our current top riders will not represent our country.

The chance to do so is rare for 99.9% of American racers, and the time frame to be able to do so is fleeting in this sport.

Just a little sad.
I agree. All the greats were excited to represent the U.S.A. from Bailey to Ward, all the way to RC. Now they all just want the money races.

No one wants to see me do anything, but a fairly large number of fans wants to see Tomac and Roczen in MXdn. So, there's that.

The decision to not race might come off as selfish but in the end Tomac is only racing for himself and to make money welcome to the real world folks. There's a 100% guarantee he doesn't give a fuck how mad some vitards, some not even American, get over his choice. If the circumstances weren't so shitty for him in sure he would represent America. The guy doesn't want to be burnt out before superdupercross even starts. Tomac isn't obligated towards anyone here. All he wants to think about is how he's gonna win the sx championship, not a bunch of side shows. (Monster cup/red bull whatever)

If I had been asked to serve in Vietnam, I would have moved to Canada.

Yes, but that amount is pocket money for him, not a reason to go and play. Russian federation bought a Mercedes-Benz for each player because they won the whole tournament. Ovechkin can buy 50 of those in a heart beat.

Sure.
We're not getting anywhere here, so I'll respectfully leave this conversation and go watch some old MXdN videos from youtube.

Imagine the riders within the World MX Championship are going into the two US GP's really under prepared in your opinion, given that they probably need 2-4 weeks after Assen? You know, for that 'travel and prep work'. Heck, maybe they should miss them!

Tomac has already stated how dissatisfied he was with his upcoming schedule. The guy is coming off double shoulder surgery and it has taken almost all year for him to get his speed back up (which i still don't think he is all the way back) and to take a chance to get hurt again during ANOTHER off race after he is finally clicking? He is probably thinking, wow I have to do 4 additional races that I didnt have to do in the past (2 US GP's MEC and the Germany SX thing) PLUS MXON? I'm sure if it was up to him he would skip the MXGP's and race the MXON. The US should just scrap stupid supercross and race a longer MX season, that would solve all of this.....

I think it's funny how all the Euro's backed Kenny for not racing because of a team switch, but are all over Tomac when his schedule has 3 more races than Ken.

Leave it alone, Team B will win or podium, just like last year....

I hope Anderson's back up to speed.

I didn't see many people backing Kenny's decision at all.

These past few years it's been suggested that the American based riders have been underprepared for the MXdN due to the fact the Nationals now finish two weeks earlier than they used to. So you might think the two USGPs scheduled for September would have been perfect preperation, but apparently not.

While i am sad that both the current 2 top 450 outdoors riders that race in the USA won't come to ride the mxon. I guess their descision is somewhat understandable.

Atleast i'll see Tomac rip against the Euro's at Glen Helen in person Cool

I'll be surprised if Tomac actually races the USGP's. Everyone's gonna start with "it's in his contract yada yada yada." But wait and see, something will change.

I don't get why some of you guys get so God damned butt hurt when a certain rider doesn't want to go to the MXoN's?

The season starts the first week in January and they go for damn near 9 months strait , and that's not counting the one off races they are obligated to do before the season starts back up again.

I think the race is important too , but I don't blame any rider for " Not " wanting to do it. Dealing with nagging injuries , switching teams , burn out and a million other things.....it boils down to , it's their life.

Eli doesn't want to go....simple , replace him. Kenny doesn't want to go , simple....replace him.

These dudes have been pounding their bodies into the ground since about the age of 4yrs old. 20yrs of racing and injuries....let them enjoy some time off every now and then. sheeesh.

You've done a full year of racing in the US, had the opportunity to race MXdN, and had the chance to race MEC + Straight Rhythm? Was it as easy as you're explaining it to be?

He's a racer getting paid millions, he'll get no sympathy from me for having to race. I guess if the schedule is such an enormous problem they won't be present at Glen Helen next year either

As much as I would love to see Eli race the MXON, I won't lose any sleep over him opting out. Whoever we send, we will still have a competitive team, and I will be getting up early to watch them.
