hey, he's a pro. It's about the money.

He has 10 - 15 years to make his money. If he does it a smart way, he and his children doesn't have to work a day anymore.

If he can make more money in MX2 (winning all gp's), he would be an idiot to take the risk and race MXGP.

But the MX1 Championship is more difficult to win because the competition is higher. Which is why you cannot count his wins/championships the same as Cairolis or Febvres or Gajsers.

Winning a college title is far from easy as well. It may be more difficult than a pro title because you only have 4 years to do it so all of your team needs to be on point in that time frame to get it done. In the pros you can be on a team for 10 years that builds its program around you (like Manning in Indy).

mxgp level is high, no doubt about that but ...

Febvre finished 3 in the 2014 MX2 championship, a year later he was the 2015 MXGP champ
Gajser won the 2015 MX2 championship, a year later he is the leader of the MXGP championship.

For years we have been saying the level in MXGP is unbelievable high, but for the last 2 years, someone came from MX2 and beat everybody in MXGP.

Don't underestimate the competition in MX2

roczen and musquin wanted to move to america to race the best racers in the world in the most competitive and prestigious series

for that they deserve all the credit in the world.

they each could have stayed in the gps and done very well and not pushed themselves hard into new disciplines and foreign lands.

----

to each their own. Herlings is amazing but he's the opposite of roczen who sought out and conquered america (he'll get an sx title in the next few years).

They moved to the US to race supercross and make more money. If you think America is so much more competitive maybe you forgot how RV's stint at the GP's went, or how the MXdN have gone for the last few years. And pushing themselves into foreign lands is exactly what they do in the GPs...

I'm not defending Herlings though, staying in the MX2 class this year was fair enough considering his injuries, but if he doesn't move up next year that's just ridiculous and he deserves the sandbagging comments.

He's already won it.
He's dominated that class.
What more does he have to prove down there?

Spin it anyway you want, but he's taking the path of least resistance.

The best part about him wanting to stay down another year, is reading all the knee jerk reactions about it. Laughing Laughing

I don't know if I'd call it fear that Herlings has for MX1 but it's obvious he prefers winning every MX2 race, being consistently two seconds a lap faster, having 100+ point leads, etc. He gets all the attention.

Verses being in MX1 when hopefully he would just be someone named as one of the class leaders; Cairoli, Febvre, Gajser, Desalle, Nagl, Paulin, Bobryshev, Simpson, Strijbos, Van Horebeek, Guillod, Coldenhoff, Searle, or ten more. He has to share the attention....

He wants to "Dominate" (His own words - used over and over for the past five years). You aren't going to do that in MX1. So he truly wants to ride MX2 for as long as possible.

Maybe he is just spoiled by so much winning and doesn't want to give it up.

I love the irony of these "cooler than thou" guys spending their time wisely explaining how much the don't give a fuck and why you moto fans shouldn't be interested either.

NOTHING in the motocross micro world matters in the big scheme of things, none of it.
But we're geeks and we love this stuff, hence we and YOU are here telling us how much you don't give a fuck.

Then the irony of you being cool enough to break THAT down to us, and then me being cool enough to break it down to everyone else how cool you seem by breaking it down previously.

There ain't no doubt that the MXGP series is equal to the AMA series as far as competition. But when you're using the example of our last couple MXDN results you're not doing yourself and justice. Team France had an AMA guy on their team. Honestly, bring the GP guys and have them race on a AMA track and see exactly what happens. The results wouldn't even be close I can guarantee you that. Throw Dungey, Tomac and Jmart on our team and have them race Millville and it would essentially be what the MXDN was last year for France.

And RV went to Europe under prepared, didn't change his set up and still won 1 of his first 3 races there. If you think RV wouldn't have won a bunch more and possibly that championship then you're delusional.

If he stays another year in MX2, assuming he wins the championship this year with no injuries, there will be absolutely no excuse for him or any of his fans. That's sandbagging to the highest degree.

Yeah I believe that was a week or so after he won the MXGP. And did very well the following. I'm not saying the top guys like Febvre, Cairoli and Gasjer wouldn't do very well in the AMA. what I'm saying is the best in both series would be a threat to win either series. I think they're all similar. But if any of the GP guys came to do the AMA series I wouldn't expect them to win right away. And the same should be said for the AMA guys going to the MXGP series. My opinion is they're both similar and both have equally amazing riders. If you want to argue that then go ahead.

Nut huggler geoff is a joke comparing roberts never moving up, when none of his main competitors were forced to move up. It was a open class anybody could race as long as they wanted.

Definitely and I look for records for sure. I am only 21 and even if I did another year in MX2 I will still be 22 and I can start on the big bikes, and if I go there at 23 and I have an average career, that usually goes until like 28 or 30, then I can still have like seven or eight years in MXGP. I am really focused on breaking records and to win a fourth MX2 title (only rider to ever do that if he can capture a fourth title) and get more GP wins, that would be really cool. To move to the MXGP class, against guys like Cairoli, Gajser and Febvre, that isn’t going to be easy and getting GP wins will be more difficult, it’s hard to win every weekend. At the same time, I really want to battle those guys, so it’s a difficult decision. I want to break records, but I also want to grow as a rider, and if I want to do that I have to move up to the MXGP class. It’s a difficult and complicated decision and due to the flight problems I couldn’t do that last week.

: What about the knockers who say you are sandbagging? I don’t think anyone called Joel Robert a sandbagger because he stayed in the 250cc class, won six titles and never moved to the 500cc class against Roger DeCoster. How do you feel about the knockers?

Herlings: You know, when I see my competition, like Anstie and Seewer, those guys are older than me. The (knockers) are acting like I am 30 or something, and still racing the MX2 class, and for sure I have been there a long time, but they pretend I am a veteran. I mean Marvin Musquin raced until he was 25 or something in the MX2 class and nobody said anything about him. You know, there are negative people and even if I moved up to the MXGP class and won there, they would say I should go to America, because Dungey and Roczen will smoke my ass, and if I went there and won, they would find something else to knock me down. I don’t focus on social media, I just focus on what is good for me and you will always have people against you, you will always get negative critics.Laughing Tongue

I think for a lot of us we really just like to see the best against the best. No matter what now Herlings will be racing a past his prime AC, which was always everyones fear with Bubba and RC. I remember Ryno in an interview saying that James needed to move up to show he was the best before Ricky had an excuse that he was past it. I dont begrudge Herlings for wanting to win as much as he can, and hes right, he is still very young. But IMO (just mine) I don't regard wins on the 250 the same as wins on the 450. Not even close. The man who wins the 450 crown is THE champ in my mind. The best of the best. He can crush whatever record he wants while on a 250 but it wont mean the same thing to many of us.

So I read the interview again and it's all about how the question is asked. He answers to the whole question but if you read between the lines you hear him saying he wants to line up with the best next year.

MXGP. Stamp it and mail it home.
