This is a motocross forum, I thought you were talking about Ricky before I clicked on it. Except he's not 74.

Dang, that really sucks. I actually go to the same Dr Ali went to in Scottsdale. He was in there from time to time, which was pretty cool.

I will say that Ali was the GOAT of trash talking but was over rated as a fighter. I can't count how many rounds the judges gave him for one 10 second flurry. He became a good man though.

Not even top 5 all time boxer and a draft dodger. Sad to see him go but far from the "GOAT"

With ya here...

The utterly brutal and very personal shit he said to "Smokin' Joe" prior to their fights was apalling.

It gave credence to the proverb "Words scar more than fists" . Frazier had a tough upbringing as well as CC.

Ali had an ugly soul. Fucking media - "What a great guy"...

If I had been alive during Vietnam, I would have been a proud draft dodger.

A few years ago I saw a few programs about Ali and Frazier's fight.

I was appalled by Ali's treatment of Joe. Some of the most vicious racism ( and shit yes, racism is possible between people who are ostensibly, of the same race) I've seen.

I think I recall Joe in the interviews still visibly fuming over it, and thought that, if it had been a bare knuckles fight, Ali may well have not exited the ring alive.

Ali passed it off as showmanship / promotion. I think he apologized to Joe's son / one of his retinue, but never to Joe himself.

I was a boxer myself through into my 20s, and held Ali in very high regard - still do in many ways. But, a few things I've learnt of him over the years, has clouded my opinion of him.

Still, a great boxer, and a man of much renown, but, like all of us, an imperfect human being. . RIP.

You're judging his soul based on his trash talk when he was a young man and a professional boxer?

Why don't you instead look to his real life and how he acted as an older, mature man?

It's funny that he had no problem making tons of money in this country that he didn't support. People (a lot better than him) die every day. I'm sure it's sad for his family and they'll miss him dearly, but I don't understand why so many want to make him out to be a hero....

I am not sure if he qualifies as a hero either. But I imagine that if you were born as a black man in segregated Kentucky in the 1940s your warm and fuzzy feelings about the US government might be different. The government is the entity that wanted him to go to Vietnam, not "the country" which was sharply divided about the war.

I thought this thread would be about Sten Lundin, but he was older I realized.

Morrison would have knocked Ali out in the first round.
