He hit the eject button for a feet down landing. That's all you can do in a situation like that.

That is precisely how Josh Demuth broke his leg he eventually lost if I remember correctly. I hate seeing that crap.

I had essentially the same thing happen to me in 2006. Broke my tib and fib. I think I survived the landing and the damage was done by the cartwheeling bike but I will never know for sure. I almost lost my leg but things are pretty good now.

Would like to know how that dude is doing. That could have ended very badly.

Many ways it could happen, engine, gearbox, electrics, chain/sprocket......if you thought about what could happen you wouldn't hit a jump again.

My chain broke mid air last year. Fortunately it was a really small 15-20ft tabletop so the crash wasn't that bad.

Could happen on anything. My rm250 locked up the trans while I was third gear tapped for a jump

Never can happen riding to and from the track in the pits. Or In a corner. Shit always happens when you're pegged.

Rekluse is engaged anytime rpm above about 1200. Now if his engine locked up and he hit the back brake it would disengage, but i dont think that would have changed amything. In fact hitting the brake would worsen it. Probably best thing is to pull in clutch but i doubt even a top pro would react in time. The motion of the engine caging alone is gonna cause a nose dive. I think he did pretty good.

Yeah....I'll say that was a bad idea! I wonder if someone told him to do that...or if that was his own idea? Dry

Gawd dang that sounds exactly like my luck. Had something like this happen quite a few years ago racing at Woodland MX. Racing out of a big sweeper side by side with another guy to get to the crest of this jump first so I could have the inside line when we came down. I was carrying to much speed as was going to over jump it , mashed the rear brake....and dead freakin' sailor!! I held on as long as I could but hit front end first so hard it ripped my hands off the bars , and then me and the bike did a few cart wheels. I remember it hurt pretty good.

That was always rumored to be what happened to Chase Borders at Monster. Which left him in a serious fight for his life for several months then the rest of his life in a chair as a quad. He recently passed away at about 27-28 y/o

Had my 250F seize on the landing of a decent sized table top not too long ago, was relieved I narrowly escaped a yard sale. Hope this guy wasn't in too bad of shape, sure puts this sport into perspective, for people that don't know we really do risk our lives for the simple joy that flying through the air brings.

I did something similar back in March. Hit a nasty kicker on a roughly 100' triple that had some frost coming out of the face. Had to step over the bars and try to slide it out the best I could. Got pretty beat up, but I am so lucky that I walked away. Was looking for my bike before I even came to a stop to make sure it didn't chase me down. Bike wasn't so lucky though. Definitely one of my more spectacular get offs over the years.
