So did Herlings.
I know. And if we're talking about sand tracks there is no one beating him. I'd still call Roczen the slighly more talented though.

Kdub. End of discussion
End of discussion? Kdub doesn't even make sense to me. He worked and trained hard.

McGrath for me. Look at the age he started riding and how long it took him to win. It's unbelievable.

So did Herlings.
Roczen was the youngest GP winner:15years 53days vs 15years 225days for Herlings.Roczen is the youngest worldchamp too.Theses are only numbers but they prove nothing.I would have seen Herlings compete the last 2 mxdn to see him race against the best americans to judge his potential.

If it's talented as in "going pretty fast without breaking a sweat", I'll hang with CP377.
If it's "creative genius redefining the limits", I'll go with Stew too...
Even though he often redefined the limits a bit too much.

Roczen was the only one who won in front of Herlings on a sandtrack.Roczen set the fastest time in timepractice, won the qualirace and gp of Lommel in 2010.Imo,Roczen and Cairoli are the best sandriders behind Herlings.Wink

The reason Ken is the youngest is because of when he was born (April I think) whilst Herlings was born in September at the end of the season. Either way super talented riders.

Damn straight... Not many goes for Herlings, I would say, Kroc and Herlings is the current best talents and maybe Gaiser?, Steward was back in the days..

But so many more with special talent over the years:

Carmichael
Everts
Tomac
Pourcel
Tortelli
Joel Smets ( only start riding at 18yrs)
Cairoli
Villopoto
etc.......

No one can despute theire talents aswell, or say who had the most..

The Dogger has more raw talent in his right thumb than most of the current riders have today. Having gone out on the town with Ronnie the night before a national, having him drink you under the table and then seeing him in the pits the next day ready to go while your head is screaming "Please for god's sake nobody start up there bike" will make you a believer.

I seriously doubt that KRoc, RD, ET or any of the other top riders could go out on an all night bender and battle for the overall the next morning.
Reed 2008 was a drunk fest and I'm pretty sure JT confirmed it.

I have also heard some stories about Emig as well sometimes getting a lil bent the day before.

Ok ok...the "end of discussion" comment may have been a bit over the topTongue
But Windham belongs on the list without a doubt. When he and Pastrana were at Suzuki, TP made several comments about Kdub's natural ability. Of course he trained hard but you can't be taught the kind of fluid style he has on the bike. How many guys can take over a year off and still come back to finish 2nd (only to Carmichael) like he did in the 2003 outdoor season?
Also....his transfer lines in the opening ceremonies were unreal!

The problem with a thread like this is that people don't put aside their bias or fave, and speak objectively. I've never been a big JS7 fan, but that dude is/was sooo amazing on a bike. KDub, Lechein, Marty Smith, Bayle, Pourcel

Just how talented are you if you miss 1/2 of your career due to injury?

Just because a rider is super fast doesn't mean they are the most naturally talented, most pro races have to train their ass of to get fast, for me talent is more about bike control aswell as going fast and instinct on a bike, I think the guys that go out and ride the hills are the among the most talented, guys like Hansen Hill Parsons Pastrana Grant Kdub but that's just my opinion

Surprised there has been no mention of "The Man". That is if we're talking all-time.

Steve Wise will go down in history as one of the most multi-talented riders in the history of motorcycle racing. Wise earned the distinction of becoming the only rider in history to win AMA motocross, AMA Supercross and AMA Superbike nationals. The Texan further proved his all-around talent by earning a podium result in the AMA Grand National Championship when he took third, in his very first Grand National Dirt Track appearance, at the Houston Astrodome TT National in 1982.
