I wonder how the traction control will work in practice?

And it seems like we have to wait 1 or 2 years for KTM to ditch the carburetors on the 2 strokes.

I'm still surprised that nobody is talking about the addition of a counterbalance system to the new 250cc and 300cc two-stroke engine. I noticed it listed in the Husky 250cc specs as well (I assume it's an identical engine).

For the average novice rider in the woods 60:1 is probably plenty of lubrication
For a fast rider on a sandy motocross track, in the desert, etc. that is probably not going to work out well.

You say the 1 to 2 years like it's a bad thing.

No not at all, i just had really high hopes that the 2017 SX 250 would have been with fuel injection since the 2016 was still the old generation model. But it makes sense that they want to make it right and not rush into it.

That will most likely be determined by how well they can meet the next generation of Euro emission standards with carbs.

I reckon you'll find KTM will only go to fuel injection as a last choice if they can't meet emission standards.

It will be a case of being careful what you wish for. Injected two strokes will almost certainly be heavier, more complex and more expensive than what we have today.

KTM has been recommending that ratio for 200/250/300's for at least 15 years that I know of.

Nothing too new.

The chance of them meeting the upcoming emission standards is small, so there will be fuel injected KTM and Husqvarna 2-strokes in the future. And i'm optimistic about that! The fuel injection on 4-strokes is the best thing that has happened to the MX industry for years.

True. I just think there some people who believe that it will be a case of unbolting the carb and bolting on an injection unit and throttle body, much like it is with four strokes.

Yes, the counterbalancer will be a most welcome addition.

After i converted my older sx250 to a 300 it wasn't long before the tingling, sorry chainsaw buzzing of the bars had me sell the 300 kit.

My god the 300 would almost be electric like now, smooth linear vibration free power.

60.1 no problems after the jetting was corrected.

Wow! These bikes claimed weights are very light. I'm wondering how the performance of the air forks are in longer, multi- hour races? I'm sure there are lots of guys running them on other brands in HS and XC... Are they consistent or do they stiffen up with heat/ pressure?

Interesting little fact:

The KTM SX 125 lost 11 pounds going to the new platform + air forks (2015 -> 2017: 203 to 192 lbs)
The KTM SX 250 lost 1 pound going to the new platform + air forks (2016 -> 2017: 211 to 210 lbs)

The air forks shave off supposedly 3.7 pounds, the new frame around 2 pounds.

That means somewhere along the way the new SX 250 engine gained 4.7 pounds over the old one...

P L E A S E tell me that is a typo on the 300XC..... It notes a 5 speed transmission, while the 250XC indicates a 6 speed?! I sure hope the 300XC has a 6 speed tranny....

I've got a 15 KX450...I haven't noticed any real change in fork performance over the course of a desert race.

I actually really like the forks...I revalved my shock but these forks are still stock and they work really really good.

That's a ridiculous statement. KTM has been working at 60:1 for years just fine.

I don't care for the "colorways".

Give me a Factory Edition or a Husky.

I wonder why they don't mention the electric start on the XC two strokes? And I am betting it was added to the 250sx which is why the weight loss isn't as much.

Shaun, I am 99% sure that it is a typo. 6 speed is what I have heard.

Anyone else notice the claimed weight on the 250xc is lighter than the 250sx? Something seems off about that.
