Whataburger, Mexican Food, and BBQ are 3 reasons why I can never leave Texas.
I live in Austin now, and the moto scene sucks for the most part. Don't get me wrong, the people are awesome and I have a great group of friends out here. It's just that there are only 2 tracks that are open regularly (Austin Del Valle and Murphys), then there is RedRock which is "semi-private". I'm not sure about it's future though, as Matt has it for sale. That track is as good as it gets, and would hold it's own against the best in the country. ADV is 10 minutes from downtown Austin, so it is convenient. It is fun when prepped well. Murphy's is a family farm and a reliable choice for a fun, safe track. They are working hard at bringing a great experience to their customers. If you want to ride mid-week in Austin, you are largely limited to ADV on Wed-Thurs nights.
Then there is Cycle Ranch. Tyler, not the correct spelling!
This coming weekend will be only the second weekend it is open this year. The owner of it had a hissy fit lsat year and decided to close the doors. With some negotiation, some folks put on a great ride back in January, and they were looking at doing it monthly. Them the owner intervened. It is the owners doing this weekend, so hopefully it will be great, and this place will get rocking again. The track is amazing, and I would hate to see it die.
As others have said, Houston has a pretty chill scene with a few good tracks that are open often.
So, if you are moving for riding reasons, and cost of living, go to DFW. If you are a Prius driving liberal, you will love Austin, but not likely anywhere in DFW. haha
If you are moving for tech jobs, Austin is where its at, and that is why I am here.

It takes a while to get used to. It's really unbelievable, honestly. Still haven't gotten over that one.
I'm looking to forward to the radical change of pace in every aspect of life which inclues, weather, food, and dirt etc.
I grew up riding/racing in the DFW area and have lived here most of my life so I do have a bias but I think DFW is the best place in Texas to live for motocross. Houston would be a close second. I think the shops in general are a little better in Houston but DFW has more tracks. The best track in Texas is Swan which is only 1.5 hours from DFW.
I don't think anyone has listed the tracks out.

I may be missing a few and there are some others near the Texas/Oklahoma border that I'm not sure are even open anymore so I didn't list those.
This area has so many good tracks that folks have already mentioned. I love Underground, Oak Hill, and River Valley. Don't care for Village, bit its ok. Swan is also a great track, I just wish it was closer.
The dirt is 2nd to none, and yes, you can ride all year here.
My 2 cents: Kansas City has no moto scene, but their BBQ is way better than anything I've ever had In TX, and I've tried a lot of different places.
And don't believe any of these guys, Whatburger sucks. But we have In-n-Out now, so it's all good. And there is Del Taco's in the DFW area.
Oh, and like a couple people mentioned, Underground, which is about an hour south of Dallas, to me is the best track in Texas.
I've spent a decent time of my life in the south and have eaten at a few whataburgers, Not the best, but definitely not the worse. the In-n-out will for sure be a savior for me.
As far as driving our of DFW to ride/race, I'n totally good with that. It get tiring though when you HAVE to drive a few hours every weekend just to not ride the same 1 or 2 tracks.

Give it another try on FB. I was getting a ton of spam requests, so I changed a setting on there. Should be able to find me with that email now.
Winters are pretty weak down here, there's like a week or 2 worth of below freezing temps, and the occasional ice/snow storm, but usually it's just highs around 50 for our "winter". Just need a hoodie and vented gear to ride all year round.
