IF you want a good 125 from back in the day, go with a rm125 floater 1983. great bike. 1985 is good also. Rear suspension was ahead of its time.

You can ride it in the bomber class. It has linkage and a power valve so its not legal in the vintage classes

It's not about how good the bike is, it's about racing with your friends and laughing your ass off after wards.

Vintage is Pre-1975

There is sometimes an Evolution, and Bomber, class

If it had to do with just Drum Brakes, I would race an CRF100, and kill them all !

If you are racing a Ahrma Event, the 83 YZ125 is legal in the Post-Vintage Ultima Class. The 83 YZ125 was a great bike, it was fast and handled well.

I loved my 83' YZ125. It was as fast and handled as well as anything else out there at the time.

I own (same bike since 85') and race a 1983 yz 125. The AHRMA rule book states no motors with power valves (82 and 83 have them) but nobody ever enforces it.

The 83 YZ and its black/yellow plastic is not as pretty as the Yellow/Blue RM floaters but the motor is better in my opinion. Yz motor is very strong stock. Forks are decent with Race Tech emulators but I could never get the shock to work the way I wanted.

One thing to note on the YZ is the shock bodies. I have already been through three shocks! The bodies were made with soft aluminum and wear out easily also the rebound clickers get seized up and you can no longer turn them.

I also have a 1985 RM 125 and the motor is a dog compared to the 83 YZ. The RM handles great but I am seriously disappointed in the hit of the motor. I prefer racing the YZ over the RM.

83 & 84 YZ's are legal in AHRMA Post Vintage, as already stated above. No loopholes, they are legal.

Here's my '83 RM.

I liked the Hondas in 83.Both the 125 and 250.If I had the choice I would ride a 83 Honda 125 or a 83 RM with 43mm forks from a YZ250.The 83 RM forks were cheesy with a goofy front brake cable
But in the end , Terry K pretty much summed it up.

The following '84 KX125s were the absolute shit.....best 125 ever in pre current link suspension to me. Liked '88 KX125 very much, but was current rear link suspension.
