Cooper Webb likes Chase Format

This may be far fetched but id like to see a mod class where the production rule is not in effect and also a stock class where all riders would have to race bikes out of the factory

Longer races will just allow more time for Dungey to lap people. You can manipulate the series however you want. The end of it will be that Dungey and KTM took all the joy out of it for everybody to the point they were willing to abandon the history of the sport trying to stop them. Just like the MXDN. The euro's couldn't stand it while the streak was going on and changed the rules and format a number of times trying to 'FIX' it. Just say it out loud.... Dungey is so bad, we had to put the fix in to keep him from walking all over everybody. All of you pro-chase guys have the attention span of a bored little teenage girl.

I think they changed the Arenacross rules because of Bowers' domination.

Second post, same as my first:

Chase or no chase... the Monster Energy Supercross Champion should be the racer who scores the most points during the entire Supercross season.

Then you can have your Monster Energy Race the Chase Champion with a
Million Dollar purse from Monster Energy, or whoever else would want to sponsor the chase. {this could bring in a NEW huge sponsor, one that Feld could name the chase after}

During the chase the riders in the chase would not collect purse money at the individual chase races {this will mean more money for the riders not in the chase}. The riders in the chase would be paid at the end of the chase.

Just think how intense the racing will be for the riders in the chase to make the main events. And now with more money for the riders not in the chase they might try a little harder to make the main event?? {this could make the races less boring and maybe have some on the edge of your seat drama that everyone is after}

Also Feld Entertainment should put up 10 million dollars... why?? For a rider who can put together an undefeated season! {Feld could advertize this like the Ten Million Dollar Supercross Championship and maybe bring in new fans to TV or the stadiums}

They should also put up an additional 1 to 5 million dollars for any rider that goes undefeated during the race the chase championship! {again advertize this like crazy}

RD5 is almost two full races up on roczen. Doubt he'd be too happy about loosing all those points he worked for.

If they had that system in 03 chad would have won over RC.

This is supercross. It's not possible.

Dodging lapper...dodging Weiners...what is the difference? Unsure

Besides, they already lap over half the field.

I get the effort to give everyone time to get to the front, but who in the last race (or races) would have made it to the front if the race were 40 laps?

According to the results of this weekends race, Tomac started in 16th and ended 7th. Not bad for his start. But he was nearly 37.043 seconds off the lead and losing more every lap. In just the last four laps he lost around 6 seconds.

How long would the race have to be for ET, who is one of the best in the world, to catch the leader? It is more likely that in a longer race that he would have been lapped.

Canard moved forward as well, and lost time on the leader the last 4 laps.

I am not knocking these guys, I like them and wish they would do better. And I am not knocking you. But longer races make the problem worse, not better.
We don't know that.. We can't use past results in any of this as a way of proving anything pro or con. Mindsets and strategy change..

2 things:

1) bring back Friday practice....at least for the privateers or those who want to be there. Allows slower privateers who might not have a lot of track time during the week to get used to the track. Run'em 5pm-8pm; shouldn't affect necessary travel/arrival time.

2) Main concern with chase format is injuries. It isn't fair for a rider who goes into the chase healthy, then gets banged up and kills his chase result, but his overall series result would have been good enough for himself, team, and sponsors. Versus someone who comes into series banged up (perhaps missing races), makes chase, is better rested and peaking at right time, and kills it in the chase portion. Injury impact on our sport is much different than NASCAR.

It's funny how you guys think this will make it more exciting. Dungey has had this championship locked up ever since the first race in San Diego (round 2) I'm saying evan if there is less rounds that count someone will still more than likely just pull away

Im not 100% sure about this but I believe arenacross uses closer scoring (ex.) 16 first 15 second 14 third. Maybe that's what we need to do to keep points closer.

So, if only one point between first and second, if the dominant guy has one bad event his championship is over? That would be worse than what we have now too.

And watch the TV ratings and race attendance both drop....Nascar is struggling with both of those in the last few years. Each year, they continue to worsen.

Seems to me fans just wait till the last race of the year to see who wins the title. No more emphasis on the individual races throughout the season.

If they want to change something for 2017 to improve racing and reduce injuries……

It seems so simple. 8 lap heats and semifinals, and 20 minute Main Events !!!!

These are the best riders in the world, on the best equipment ever, as well as the being the fittest!!!!
Why do they continue to flatten the whoops? Ruts in the whoops cause mistakes and allow passing opportunities. An even better question is, “Why are Heat races only 6 laps?” That’s like a local motocross event, except with 44 second lap times it’s even less time racing. When Chad Reed and Eli Tomac both comment that the races are too short and whoops too smooth, it’s pretty obvious. Let me also say that I agree with fixing lips on jumps, the first turn, dangerous or one lined sections,
It’s frustrating when you watch how much time they spend needlessly grooming the tracks, and then we see wasted time with the KTM Jr. Challenge and wiener dog racing. Ridiculous !!!!!

Not sure where you're trying to go with the whoop thing. The whoops definitely start out large during the day. They also definitely seem to have been flattened out during the time between practice and racing (while being fixed). But not maintaining them? IMO, ruts in them would cause more problems/injuries for the riders, not less.
Rider comments on grooming/rolling the whoops during last nights PulpMX podcast!!!

David Vuillemin states:
“They never used to touch them”, “Timed practice causes them to get one lined because no hay bales in practice”,
“It was rutted, it was shitty”.

Jason Thomas states: “I personally think it takes away from the racing so much”,
“ The whoops at night were a joke”, “They turn it into a freeway” ,“These guys are incredibly capable, I say make the tracks tough”

I don't what more there is to say.

It's all about money for the promoters FELD. SX is on TV and FELD wants more people watching. Creating drama by resetting the points is all about trying to increase TV ratings. I hate the idea of a chase format, but FELD knows that they will not loose me as a viewer just like they will not loose any of the true fans. Yes some here will say they won't watch any more but be real you will still watch. FELD knows that most likely they will gain some fans at the expense of the spirit of a long hard season producing a champion based on 17 rounds of racing.

Stay tuned, I will bet that the Nationals will change over to a chase format if they see TV ratings raise in SX.

Holding events after the championship has been awarded is a waste of time.

However that and top rider participation percentage is fixed... I am for it. Chase, reduction of event count, regional series leading to a shorter championship series.

I want the main to last 45 minutes so I can watch Dungey lap up to 2nd. The race always get so much more exciting at the end and there are big gaps between the leaders and they have so much more time to throw big whips.

A chase format is nothing but a joke..

Supercross is not broken there is no need to fix it. If you want an example of how to mess up a good thing, just look at the new qualifying format they introduced this year in F1..... Now everyone runs a few mins each session and then parks in there garages. A total joke.

Factories pay bonus money for 2nd and 3rd so I would say yes! So tell me you would not like to have a 2nd or 3rd place SX championship plaque on your resume? Tomac, Roczen and a lot of riders make a great living because of those finishes in the series.

Ok, I go along with parts of your discussion. Basically, I view this entire chase discussion as going to the root of philosophy of what SX is and what it will become. If it is to remain a sporting event, then the answer is clear - No Chase. I have yet to hear anyone that doesn't acknowledge that the current method is the fairest manner to determine a championship. The argument in favor of the chase is it makes the latter/chase rounds more exciting.

The sad truth is that sometimes sporting seasons get "boring" simply because there is a standout person/team that walks away from the competition. But, isn't this the purpose of sporting competition - to reward the best?

Entertainment has a much different focus than an a sporting event, its goal is to provide excitement at each single production. Not a bad purpose nor at times not inconsistent with the philosophy of a sporting competition/series.

My problem with the "chase" idea is that I think SX should remain a sporting competition. I view this chase concept as "headed down the rabbit hole" of trying to insure a sporting competition/series meets the goals of entertainment at all times and in all circumstances. I view this as an unrealistic goal.

The question posed to the Anti-Chase crowd is "Why not try it, we can always try something else?" To the Pro-Chase contingency I'd like an answer to: "Do we want to Grow our sport or Grow our entertainment"?

DKG,
You are spot on.
Jeff Gordon said it best. He said that NASCAR drivers are no longer racers they are entertainers that race.

How cool would it have been this last weekend if they were out at Hangtown for the first National.

Go old school and sprinkle in a couple MX Nationals during the SX season. Have a USGP or two during the MX National season.

Get some variety back in the mix. Go with some ideas that are from your own sport with a proud history. No need to copy other sports or try to create a playoff system.

Supercross silo + MX Nationals silo + MXGP silo = divided interests.

We can always go back.

If I remember correctly chad was against a chase format. He even said he would hope the teams would get together to keep that style of points system from happening.

It's not "the chase" , "It's the stop Dungey from rapping up the championship early every year...

Can't beat him... Change the rules... A bunch of pussies...

They did the same thing in Nascar... "The stop Jimmy Johnson rule"... only difference is 10th place in Nascar every
year and you're Rich...

Feld puts on Big Foot Truck Races... What that tell you?... That's not a sport...

Ahhh.... are we racers or fans? I know I wasn't on the podium last week.. what about you?

Are you going to watch the NCAA Basketball Championship 3rd place trophy game? I know I am super pumped for it.
