The little 4 need to lose the massive street bike frames. Well that and start making cutting edge 50cc, 65cc, 85cc, 125cc, 150cc, and 250cc two strokes to grow the sport. The little 4 don't care. KTM should just offer the bike in 6 colors and get this thing over with already.

been riding KTMs since before they were "in style." its crazy to see the big turnaround in public opinion about them... they have been making bikes that we were asking for for quite a while now and, in the past, it has been hard for some of us to understand why they were so frowned upon by so many. they were listening to their customers and building what we wanted and they were building great bikes.... that still hasn't changed. there is no question that the bikes have become even better since decoster and dungey have come on board but not THAT much better in stock form. i guess it is true that winning supercross titles and mx titles also wins customers.

i'm just glad that KTM is finally getting the success that they deserve. they build bikes for kids that are barely out of diapers, dirt bikes that have just enough lighting to make them street legal, to world class enduro, moto, superbikes and everything in between..... and when there is enough demand from customers for something different.... they will build that bike too.

Dammit the demand is here for a 500SX. Build it KTM. Please. Only bike missing from the line.

Speaking of KTM, does the 500exc get the new plastic treatment for '17 or will it still look like this?

Would like to try some dual sport action and it sounds like KTM has the best DS bike by a long shot.

I wonder if Suzuki wishes they hadn't snubbed Roger and Ryan that year after winning the title.

How stupid can you be to let the man go knowing what he did for ever race team he ever worked at and think that decision ain't going to come back on you.
Suzuki has proven to be a lame thinking company again and again

Just ask Roger

But that is the way of the world, there must be lame companies and sharp companies

just the way it is

BUT, THE BIG QUESTION STILL REMAINS

DECADE AFTER DECADE

WHY CAN'T THE GOOD OLD USA MANAGE TO GET IT'S SHIT TOGETHER AND PRODUCE AN MX BIKE, I DON'T MEAN COBRA, I MEAN A REAL MX BIKE TO WIN AMA MX OR SX

Has the USA ever even produced an MX bike ---- period ?

forget about Harley, Italian motor and suspension

Forget Can Am, Austrian motor and ???? Italian / Japanese suspension

So, what's the answer?

You obviously do not personally provide employment for americans or you would not have asked the question. The little 4 don't have the will to grow the sport. The only answer is KTM offer the bikes in Orange, White, Red, Yellow, Green and Blue.

ATK & Canondale. ATK used rotax engines for the most part however. Some of their erly stuff used Honda engines.
The Canondale(which then was purchased by ATK) was an American built bike. A lot of parts were Euro sourced though as well.
The old ATK works bikes were cool bikes.

thanks for reminding me about cannondale.

that was probably our most legitimate chance of really "getting in the game" and Cannondale blew it !!!

..... poor Cannondale........ good forward-thinking ideas but not even close to being able to "sweat the details"

Can you imagine the Japanese speaking among each other when they had a chance to test that bike ?

Well,

ok, that was a legitimate failure..... let's move on.

Will the USA ever be able to produce their own MX bike ?

Really? the big 4 were responsible for the sport growing massively in the 70's and 80's...if it wasnt for them the sport would not be where it is at these days and KTM would not be where it is now.

Also do you think the big 4 care that much about off road bikes, they dont make a lot of money out of them so why spend big R&D on them? Despite this the big 4 still sell a truckload more bikes than what KTM does...so do you think they care?

KTM appears to be a company that owes a lot of it's success lately to The Man.

Whatever they pay him, its not enough.

Roger DeCoster is magic, there is no doubt about it. He can come to any quality company and turn them into winners.

But back to the "Made in USA" topic.

The USA does not even have a producer of mx bikes so Roger can not even come help them........

It just gets under my skin when I think about it..... that America can not compete against Japan/Austria.

What producers of motorized vehicles are left in the USA, I know Ford is in the process of moving to Mexico but maybe there is some production left or what about GM?.... Can you imagine if Ford or GM were to try to produce an MX bike, like Honda for example ?

I just took one of these for a ride yesterday. It might be the single coolest motorcycle I have ever ridden.

Suzuki had bigger problems like circling the bankruptcy drain than The Man and the race team.

To your point financial insolvency aside I agree with you. I will also go into the cremation oven still in shock Honda let McGrath go to Kawi

I seem to recall MXA said 2014 KTM sold more off road machines than the four OEMs combined but I can't put a body part on it.

It's never going to happen. Market in the us isn't large enough for an upstart. Atk, canondale, highland, etc couldn't make it work. The US can't even reliably produce a sport bike. The motocross aspect of motorcycling is miniscule in the grand scheme of things.

in 50 years time iam 100% sure the big 4 will still be around .KTM i am far from sure . just go back and look at history . your very hard on Suzuki, when they did offer him a 1 year deal. i am sure if they had the money at the time the man would be still there . hard to pay someone if you dont have any money

Breaking news. KTM has always made good bikes. Just because they weren't that popular or didn't win all the mag comparisons doesn't mean they weren't a great bike. Same for Husky.

I will stand corrected IF thats the case, but with MXA being so KTM biased then I take it with a dose of salt. See their REM pictures each week, most are always KTM's despite other brands being equally or even more represented, those who race there (incl. me occasionally) see that and laugh at the coverage they show.

Don't have to research anything when you have contacts that worked for Suzuki during Dungey's last two years on yellow.
