I remember Bradshaw and RJ doing it in the 80's, not quite as extreme, but the scrub has been around since the 70's. Bubbas peg scrapers, thats all him... It came about around the same time bmx'ers were starting to manual jumps to avoid the speed loss being in the air. Maybe he took a cue from them

No one will ever know when the first one was, but here's Graham Barber with JoJo behind him watching. I'd say this is a pretty damn good classic pre-James version.

When I talk to him about this when he mastered this on the 125, he would go so fast that when he was play whipping the bike in practice, he discovered it saved on lap times and the scrub was born.

He may not have invented it but, James did perfect it. Much like Eddie Van Halen didn't invent two handed tapping on the guitar. They both obviously elevated the game. Credit where it's due?

Yep,there are plenty of C riders all over the country that have him to blame for them blowing out their shoulders because they couldn't get their bike back straight from their massive 'butt scrubs'. Wink
