With all the talk of how bad the track sucked last night

Anyone have any ideas on how to improve it? Thought I read somewhere, that there were changes to the venue itself, which cuts down on room for the SX? What do you do with a place that is long and narrow? You only have so much to work with, in a place like that.

To me the choice is a simple one. Either start putting dirt on the Tarmac or don't go to Daytona. That grass infield section isn't big enough to build a decent SX track on anymore

It may have something to do with building whoops by covering telegraph poles in dirt

Daytona just isn't the same and at the risk of sounding like an old fart I miss the days of minute and a half lap times 30 rider gates and it being run during the day.

They quit using Gary after he supposedly flashed his pecker to a lady at a fast food joint. He claims he didn't realize his zipper was down I believe his story but he does now have to register as a sex offender and I think the AMA/Feld have some PR issues with that.

A pavement section would be kind of cool. Nothing crazy maybe just a straight. Would make tire wear an issue.

That whole event/venue sucked yesterday. Just seemed to lack the normal excitement of Daytona - speaking from the view of watching on TV. The TV coverage sucked. No Semi's - WTF? Same 3 hour program, with 2 less races, more commercials, one lined track that was hard to pass on. I dozed off during the 450 main last night. The only thing that could have made that track exciting would have been a monsoon turning it into a mudder. Track layout blew ass.

You could hear it in RCs voice in a couple of comments near the end of the race that the track was an epic fail. I am not usually on-board with people bitching about tracks, but I will jump on board this one, that track had one place to pass (sketchily) on the entire track and was just a crappy track. I found myself not even paying attention to the parade on TV, and felt bad for some of the faster riders clearly struggling to gain ground anywhere. CR22 certainly wasn't a fan... That was laughable :D

The track may have sucked last night, but it was X100 times better than the cookie cutter sx tracks in domes and ball parks.

So there isnt enough room to build a decent track, but you can fit a great one on a football field.


they didnt make enough use of the space they , had , on the pitlane side there was enough room to move the track over,and take out the chicanes and put in proper corners.

IMO, the track was built so it used the length of space it had , so fans could see something , but also down to a lap time.

It was never going to be anything else.

Just a guess but I'd bet there were some technical difficulties/restrictions that Ricky doesn't want to get into. I read into his comments, "it's the same crappy track for everyone...just do work and move on".

No. There was plenty of room. Dirt was great and groomed fine it was just the design of it. Just an awful track. I don't know why it's so hard to build a good track these days with all the technology involved. While I am complaining I am getting fed up with the arena cross tracks. I know they are limited on space but the can still get creative and mix it up. It's just the same exact thing all year long except maybe a track or two.

There has to be a way to force riders to choose between insides and outsides in turns to where they're not going to lose a bunch of time getting out of the desired "race line.". Right now it's too one lined, and that one line is WAY faster. Can't they try some off cambers, higher on the inside then gradually get lower to the outside? If a corner is flat and the fast line is the inside, and it's slower to go outside, can't they make they corner in a way you don't lose a bunch of time going to one or the other?

I don't think it is who designs the track. I would guess (without knowing the details) that the restrictions that speedway management put on design are a bigger factor than whether Gary/Ricky/Travis/John Doe puts their name on the design.

I think same as most everyone else about the track design this year. i.e. horrible. Time for a change of the Daytona rules regarding where the track can go.

X2. Something just seemed to be missing last night. Broadcast seemed dull and I found myself uniterested at times. First time I have ever seemed bored watching supercross. (Haven't missed watching one since 1998)
