Is Stewart merely there to honor contract obligations and then, once the supercross series is completed, he will retire?

He is still getting the media coverage and column space.

He completed 1 lap. He has missed 3 races. Is "getting the media coverage" for getting hurt and missing races more important to Suzuki than winning races and championships?

The question is, when and where will James Stewart draw the line and say, "That's it. I'm done. I know I'm done, and I'm okay with that."

Much as I hate to say it...I hope it's soon. The guy is one of the greatest ever, and has nothing to prove...but he's playing Russian roulette out there. I used to love anticipating James puttin on a show and riding like nobody else could, but now it's just wondering if he'll make it the entire race without crashing & getting hurt. He doesn't deserve that. I hope his good sense can override his pride in this.

At what point do people like you finally get realistic?

I would like to see the total of his medical bills during his racing career. Not what he's paid but the total before insurance.

I wish, but I've lost the faith. For him to return @ that level, he needs to be 100% committed. He clearly wasn't in great shape when he came back & looked like he just sat on the couch after that concussion. The fact he's not in great shape shows his head is just not in it. Maybe doing it for the wrong reasons (the fans), instead of himself.

Exactly. I'm a huge fan of James. I've always been a big supporter. I'll always love what he's done in his career and for this sport, but I don't like what I'm seeing from him right now. He's unsafe out there and needs to draw the line.

You Tube has some old crash compilation videos of Stewart. That kid has taken some serious hits. It is hard to watch. He has definitely earned his money over the years.

It is heartbreaking.

JS7 Daytona crash was much like RV1 career ending crash. Hope JS7 is there next week.

JS7 is as committed as they come, it's funny how he has gone to not even multiple pages here.
I know James and i pray he retires. He has been one of the best the sport has ever had and his reflexes are not what they use to be. I would guess to many concussions and it's time to hang it up and ditch his cling ons while he still has a bit of cash left. Thank You James for all you have given the fans, the sport and your body.

He needs to think of that child on the way and forget about us fans

So in this theory of things, James goes out and tries to put his handlebar through his thigh to meet contract obligations? Seriously?

.....or maybe he is doing it for himself and his family. You know, get as much hay in the old barn as you can before the sun goes down. I doubt "the fans" are even included in James' decision-matrix.

You make it sound like he crashed deliberately

But he has said the exact opposite. When he got popped for Aderall, he said he was seriously contemplating retirement but it was the overwhelming support from the fans that was getting him back to racing.

I would lean toward this way of thinking more so than he's risking life and limb for "the fans." Those fans aren't gonna pay his medical bills or feed his family. He knows that his career is near the end and he's blown a lot of his earnings.

Looks to me like he's lost interest, he's out of shape and is using whats left of his talent to eek out the last of those big paychecks.

He needs to keep riding and getting paid. He had some bad luck with the concussion but he'll get back to form. The last thing he needs to do is retire. And yes , he needs to start trimming down some of his liabilities, if you know what I mean.

He has said he has more money than he will ever need, or he wouldn't have left JGR where he made 4 times more money than he makes at Suzuki. Also, from everthing I've heard Seven is doing VERY well.
He wants to race, it's the only thing he knows. It happens in every sport, aging stars hanging on too long because they can't replace the excitement they get from being one of the best in the world at their sport. Hopefully he is not too injured, and can continue racing or retire without too many lingering injuries.

Why does he "need" to do any of this? Because it's what you "want" him to do?

Unfortunately, the only contract or "obligation" is to Big James. The way he used to talk on the show about how "we" need to go race..."we" this..and "we" that. Big James needs little James to keep making those checks so he (big James) can continue to live the lavish life style. All those man friends too. (as mxb2 pointed out).

I don't know. I guess if he has enough money, go ahead and retire. He will never get back to winning races, but its just hard to see walking away from millions a year.

I don't what he needs to do but that was brutal. Sad

Its painful to watch him anymore, he went from being the fastest MX rider I have ever seen to a rider who might finish a race here and there. Kind of like a boxer who was the best in his day but didn't know when to walk away and gets pummeled in the ring. Sad Payton Manning retired today maybe James should at least give it some serious thought, and walk away when its still his choice.

I was one of the guys thinking that if he could get fit and get his mind right , we could still see him up towards the front and getting some good finishes ( at least that's what I was hoping ). After last night , I'm not sure that's possible. Maybe injuries are prohibiting him from training the way he should , gets bad results and that in affect makes a guy lose confidence. I don't want to see him retire out of my own selfish reasons , but after last night , all I kept thinking was I was tired of seeing him get beat up all the time. This season has been brutal.

Indeed, nothing to prove and if he has been smart with the money he made he won't need to do a thing.
