Hey Tim...could you tell me what the foot print is on your concept 2? And how much extra length would a guy need when you are at the total end of a pull?

I've seen C and D versions. Haven't checked to see which one is more high end. Which one do most mx guys prefer?

Been thinking of picking one up. Would it be a good replacement for a spin bike? Or a possible elliptical trainer? I only have room for one machine...so i have to choose. I have a nice Lemond spin bike now.

Question is, does it work better with ground up shrimp shells and the juice of the nasty berry? I mean we are going all in on the Aldon effect, right?

Youre killing me man.
Remember when Emig and Sondra was pimping that juice?

The 4 Arm Strong is so you can do ART (active release technique) on yourself.

The Concept 2 is the way to go. I raced last weekend for the first time in 10 years and while I am sore all over, I had no arm pump. I row 5 days a week, 5000 meters and do it in about 22 minutes. I keep my heart rate at about 155 about what I should be at for a 53 year old.

Being 53 and staying at a 155 HR is pretty damn good man. Nothing to be ashamed of at all. That's about 93% MHR , which 100% is about 167.

I just got home from work here and am doing some research on the concept 2 rower and I am going to try and pick one up here within a few weeks. My space is limited , but from looking at the dimensions , it should fit about perfect. As others have mentioned in this thread , is is basically a torture device , and that exactly what I need. I've been hitting my cardio pretty hard over the past few weeks and should be back on the bike some time in March , and hopefully I'll come in strong and prepared. I haven't been pushing my MHR up past about 85 - 90% as of yet because it's still pretty uncomfortable , but hopefully be up into your range here within a month or so.

I'm planning on doing something a little different this year , and that's split my cardio into a moto simulation type thing. Instead of a long 45min workout , I'm thinking of doing two intense 20 + min sets , with about 15 min break in the middle. I am 48yrs old and have a resting HR at 50 even right now. It'll probably go lower as I get into the more intense workout sessions over time. I'd like to be able to push myself into the 90-95% MHR for a good 20-25mins strait , and that's my goal for now.

By the way...could someone explain how the heart rate monitor works with the Concept 2? I think the " E " model has one , but not sure on the " D " model. How exactly does that work? Bluetooth with a heart strap?

E model all has one for sure and I use the Polar heart rate strap with the concept monitor via Bluetooth smart technology. I use the same heart rate strap and a Polar watch when I ride so you can compare rowing and riding. The beauty of the Concept rower is that it is almost no impact and perfect for us older guys ha ha, you can use it to stimulate moto's or use it for endurance or sprints

So the E model has one? How does it connect to the person using the machine? Chest strap? Or does the concept 2 just have an open bluetooth signal waiting for input from something else , like a HRM watch of any brand?

Concept 2 rowers are good for riders. Some days I'll just do long distance rows and some days throw in some High Intensity Interval Training to get some intensity. Do 10 rounds of 30sec on and 30sec off and give it all you got for those 30sec. Those are real burners. And for those of you who have bad shoulders or have had shoulder injuries (I have arthritis in my right, repaired a torn labrum and torn bicep tendon in my left) it is good therapy for shoulders with the pulling action to keep those rear delts and muscles around the shoulder blades healthy and strong.

Hey Guys, I have not been on in a while but if you ever have moto related questions about the Concept2 feel free to hit me up by email. GregH@Concept2.com. Concept2 has been around for 40 years so there are several different Models of the rower out there and now up to PM5 monitors. everyone is slightly different but all work the whole body and can be used both for HIIT / CrossFit style or straight up endurance base work. You can make Polar Heart rate chest belts work with the PM2, PM3 and PM4 monitors and any ANT+ chest belts will pair with PM4’s. The new PM5 monitors come on all new machines and they all Bluetooth as well at ANT technology built in so they work with most all HR chest belts (Polar, Garmin are the best). I don’t want to sound like a sales guy so if you have specific questions just hit me up.

Jeffro , With the PM4 if you have a Polar HR chest belt you need an adaptor that we sell from Concept2 to make it read. If you had a Suunto or Garmin chest belt that should pair wireless directly to the monitor.

Hi Greg, thanks for your help! like I said in my earlier post, I love the Concept 2 Rower and it has helped me a lot but I'm sure I am not using it to its full advantage. Can you direct us towards some information that are moto related workouts? Can you share what guys like Andrew Short are doing for there preparation? I'm sure most of us cannot run at his intensity level, but it might give us some guidelines to maximize our workouts. Thanks again!

Most of the Moto trainers I know would kill me if I gave away what they do for training with their riders but I do have a good program that a lot of privateers use. Any good 5000 meter rowing training program will work great. It teaches the body to go hard for that 18 min to 25 minute max effort time domain. It is in a word doc so I think you will have to email me for it. It is a 3 day a week interval based program for the rower so it will not get in the way of your on bike training. If you are not riding then you should add 2 days of functional strength in there as well to help make you more durable. - Greg

Easiest and most effective arm pump reducing technique I've found:
You'll need knee wraps. Wrap your forearm in its most relaxed state from your elbow to you wrist, as tight as you can. Now go about your day. Move your hands and wrists as much as you can. I do this a couple days a week in the off season, and usually do it the two days before a race during the season.
I'm pretty sure its the same thing they are doing or accomplishing with the 4arm Strong deal, but knee wraps are a lot cheaper.

Bought a Concept2 of CL a few years ago. Hadn't used in awhile but now that my boys are older we started a weekly challenge. It's made it fun to see if we can beat each others times/distances etc. ...................

Can you tell what model rower this one is just by the pictures? It is for sale locally but I don't want to buy something that might not be worth it. FYI, I use a Garmin Forerunner 310XT with ANT.

That is a Model C with a PM2 monitor and still a great rower. http://www.concept2.com/service/indoor-rowers/model-c

The prices used can be pretty high because the CrossFit and Military guys all want them. I see them going for $650-700 and a new Model D from us here at the factory is only $900.00 and $45 shipping. The biggest thing to look out for is the monitor. Those are about the only things that can really break and are expensive to replace.

Good idea mixing it up like that. The 30 sec intervals are tough if you haven't done them in a while, but they sure work!
