Yamaha's going spring because it works better...

Cost savings is the main push for air on production bikes not performance.

Yamaha is already spring and they are going air like it or not or be in denial or not

Not for the foreseeable future... I expect springs for at least two more years, if not longer.

No he's not! He's using KYB PSF1 Air forks... I'll dig up the photos from the last two races if you'd like...

I only stood there talking to Ryan while he checked the pressures at both rounds...

ok, but lets play devil's advocate here... so lets say Yamaha want to lose a lot more weight off their 250/450, we all know that air forks save quite a few pounds, even if they have a suspension contract with KYB to deliver them spring forks for next 2-3 years....surely that would not stop them moving to air forks sooner if they wanted to?

And ok a Dr. Pepper ..nice stuff that

The R&D staff wants to stay spring right now and they know that's a great selling point for them. They also have the lowest MSRP in both classes (in the USA), so the cost reduction isn't as big of a deal for them. The weight loss isn't worth the offset of losing a great selling point to those who don't get along with air forks.

It's also quicker/easier to change the spring rate.
On the flip side, air doesn't react to heat as well as springs.. and some people claim there's less feeling in air forks. BS imo
That was my point.

More than a few people have called me "motopedia" before... Not nearly as many that call me "Talking Boy" though... I can thank Ross and Donn Maeda for popularizing that one. Laughing Laughing

A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question that is asked to make a point rather than to elicit an answer. Does that clear it up for you???????????

I had air forks on my 15 crf and had them set up and they were great. I like to tinker so I bought a set of 2012 crf250 spring forks to see what the difference was and just love love them on this bike. I could of lived with the air but I did feel like they got stiff as the moto wore on. I know a lot of the top mtb guys have air forks on their bikes because it is what is sold but truthfully most have springs hidden in there. Recently Roger Decoster said he did not like air forks but said he will be forced to use them next year. He said its good for the manufacturer but bad for the rider. I know a few top moto guys also had the secret spring in their bikes the last few years but I guess far less this year. I can't say which is actually better and seems like preference now but it is confusing to say where its going and why. Is it money or performance is the question for me?
