How could this thread not mention RC? Both he and McGrath have the same post career diet and physique, so race placement would be interesting. I say 11th and 14th respectively. RV would be around 7th. Hannah? 57th.

Dont throw RV in the mix. He doesnt want to be there. This is a stupid thread. One of the best sx seasons ever are unfolding in front of us , and you want to talk about this?

Yeah they are what if's. But I'll entertain it, rv would still be rv and in the mix, no doubt at the top of the mix. McGrath was 5-6th place rider back when he unretired and he may have gotten a podium but don't remember. In this crowd, having been retired for 10 years now I think he would have a tough time not going to the LCQ. He was a good starter and sprinter so maybe with a weak semi and the holeshot he could hang onto a qualifying position.

Hannah, that's a joke right? These are only my opinions so don't shit yourself MC lovers.

Dungey was a different rider in 2015, so yes, I am serious.
His main difference now is that RV isn't beating him every week.

And it's not a given that he would have beat Dungey in 2015. It's all speculation. Smile

He was the same really. I mean yeah he improved just like all top guys do every year. All those races where he battled his way into the lead and won in 2015? More often than not, from 2011-2014 he was battling his way into 2nd place. Sorry that's just the truth. I'm a Dungey fan, but that's reality. The 2nd places from the previous years turned into 1st place finishes last year.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he could ride himself he seems to understand what's going on around the track he doesn't just show them how to ride road bikes

All you're doing is projecting the past into the future. Dungey was a different rider, lots of people have noticed it and even Dungey has said as much. Saying that RV would have won is just as much speculation as it is saying Dungey would have won.

Good thing rc retired, that would take most of the wins away from stewart, rd, rv.

I'm not sure if JA could have been denied at A1 in any scenario, but if RV was there and got a holeshot he probably could have done it. Not 100% sure though, since Seely was pretty checked out. Maybe if it was RV in front, that would have been a 10-12 second gap and JA wouldn't have pushed as hard as he did to close it after getting into second.

RV would have won San Diego by a mile.

These topics are so pointless. Unless RV decides to come back, we will never know.

Would have won Phoenix? They haven't raced there this year yet but thanks for your insightful opinion.

Nothing ever is a given in racing but it sounds like circular reason to assume Dungey would beat him since he won without him. RV w won 4 in a row against him then dropped the mic.

Dammit you're right. I'm so used to it being the second round haha. Meant San Diego.

Actually, it's circular reason to project the past into the future. Wink

He would force from Dungey what Dungey's only now ready to give. It wouldn't be a cake walk, it would be a no more mr. nice guy Dungey who would ultimately win the war. The new bike, the confidence, and fan support -- all of that puts Dungey in a place he wasn't on the older KTM's while racing Villopoto. This time it would be a serious battle, one I believe Dungey would win. Validation.

However, I'm not convinced Jason Anderson wouldn't ruin it for them both.

RV was such an intense competitor, i think he would still win. Kinda like JA owns Seely, RV owns RD.

while we are playing make believe in fantasy land, how would Bob Hannah do if hadn't retired a hundred years ago?

I'd like to see someone, hell anyone try to ride a modern SX track on a '79 YZ250...

There are so many riders capable of making the podium I do not miss RV at all. If he were out there he would most likely be 2-0

I have to doubt that RC would easily make the main.

Some of you guys make me laugh, I didn't post the thread to start a fucking petition to bring RV back so I don't understand why some of you feel the need to say "let it go he's gone now". it was just a hypothetical question as he retired less than 12 months ago, so we all know what he's capable of in the current field.

This guy would have them all covered.

RV would dominate the same way he left off. Just my opinion!

This guy would have them all covered.

He'd also have every pussy millennial on Vital in an outrage.

"He ran over Dungey's foot, didn't thank the man above on the podium, kissed the Monster chick, and flipped Matthes the bird leaving the stadium."
