Don't know what/when you saw it, but pretty sure Dave built one for Rex to use in a 500 many years ago at Mammoth.

He might not be gentle or eloquent with a keyboard, but he made the crank everyone is talking shit about and has more knowledge in his pinky finger than most people on this board. I'll take that over a bunch of girls arguing about who had the coolest jersey.
Did I ever tell you about the time Mike LaRocco lapped me at Millville...

Than why don't we ride engine cycles?

Anytime you boost a small engine the smooth power delivery goes right out the window. Id love to see someone try to ride a turbo 450 on a tight SX track Wink

Speaking of bike tricky bits, this surely has to be in the area of "because we can."

Yes, there is a significant amount of tungsten heavy metal pressed into each half to re balance and bring it within 1% of the original crankshafts weight.

It believe it was a 250 but it was at Mammoth and could have been related to the 500.

The Yamaha head has a lot more left in it.

If any of you recall the ford smallblock raced at indy by gurney. John miller designed some trick heads,3 valve twin cam that exhausted into the valley area to drive turbo. Its intake was between the cams to narrow the engine . There were other heads, weslake and such. It became the coyote with foyt.

But, I'm getting at the Yamaha intake being moved between cams with a straight airflow down into the cylinder and very little valve shrouding.

Ah yes, the old Never Ready 750 design (Honda NR750 oval piston). I remember that bike. I think Honda designed and built that engine just because some people said it wasn't possible. Wonder how hard they are to get pistons for these days....

Honda built that bike to try and skirt some GP rules related to number of cylinders/ valves/ weight/ displacement/ strokes a race bike could have. That engine is functionally a V8, but with only 4 cylinders it could race in the GPs. By the time it was ready, it was clear that it would never be competitive. So Honda just got the rules changed to displacement doubled for 4 strokes. Never mind that their oval 'cylinders' were not cylindrical in shape.
