Not bad for an old chassis....Since we don't have a Vital 250F shootout to banter about, thought this would be a good start.

Some ass kissing there. "Reliability" goes to the yamaha.... and there sure was an awful lot of little differences between basically the same bike.
Not everyone has to like the KTM, some people are more comfortable on the Yami. But I can't see how Yamaha would win the shootout unless every single test rider just happens to be more comfortable on yamahas

Oh man, now you're gonna upset all the KTM fanboys. You must know this is the home of "we love KTMs but hate 4CS forks...mostly because other people say they suck" Seems so weird, but oh well, the new KTMs are pretty damn nice...
Sorry, I couldn't resist. All in good fun.

Haha I'm irritated because I feel there was some bias in there. Be it a kickover from Yamaha or maybe some stock in Yamaha.
I mean the KTM is far from perfect. But no way the Yamaha is a better bike. It's just an outdated option for riders that aren't comfortable on the orange bikes. It was great in 2006... hell it's good in 2016 but it's not the best anymore.

Btw where you on georgiaoffroard?

If they do the shootout next year with the newly re-designed KTM and the Yamaha still wins, there will be a lot of orange tears around here. It is amazing to me that KTM will do all the R&D to fix their bikes from the ground up, but still put the shitty suspenders on it. If they swallowed their pride and put KYB SSS forks on their bikes, they would be shootout winning machines.

Don't SSS and 4CS use Springs, Oil and Shims? Aren't shims like $1/piece or less?

See where I'm going with this. Smile

It'd be nice to see a shootout where the 450's were involved. Same thing with the 250f's bring the 125's in.
I love the feel on my YZ but the 15 250sx I got to rip on has me ready to go Orange.... can't wait to see what they do with the 17!

Incorrect. KTM hasn't had any ownership in WP for over six years now.

WP also produces KTM's frames, radiators, exhaust systems, and a few other components at this time.

This isn't directed specifically at you, but I've never understood the whole 'fan-boy, bias, brand bashing/brand slurping' that goes on the MX world. Is it not enough to buy what you want? Why do other peoples' opinions have to validate your purchase? If you like it, get it. If you don't, get something else. It just baffles me when threads comparing bikes end up in arguments about 'fan-boys' of certain brands.

This is a beauty pic!

Can't believe they are so sloppy these days. They have two pics of the Yamaha with a caption below that says it's a KTM. "This is the 2016 version of the KTM 250SX."

So the YZ250 only won because of it's suspension, that's the only advantage it has over the KTM/Husq. The same can be said for the YZ450F. We'll see what happens for next years 250sx, should be all new with WP AER 48 forks that might be competitive with KYB.

"It won on the overall balance of suspension, power, comfort and reliability. This was a triumph of feel over function. The YZ250 just feels right. The 2015-16 YZ250 two-stroke is easier to ride, more confidence-inspiring and, most important, its Kayaba SSS suspension delivers works-like performance to the common man."

Yamaha yz 250F...250 Four stroke winner.
Who's the winner when you include ALL the 250 MX bikes?
All you 250f guys... if you want a clear advantage over the other 250f's....line up with a new YZ or KTM 250 two stroke.. Take the time to learn how to ride it and handle it and presto... there's the winning edge...
yeah yeah yeah... I know.. 250f's are just as competitive.. easier to ride and turn faster laps than 450's sometimes... but so do 250 two strokes... all with super light weight.. super awesome handling and lightning quick, unbeatable acceleration.. they are harder to race though, but once your in sync with em.. there a clear advantage over 250f's....
Who's the real 250 shootout winner?

Cross Industries is the major share holder in both companies, but WP is also publicly traded. Cross Industries doesn't privately own the WP AG group.

When WP became a privately traded company in 2008... there was consideration to have KYB suspension on the KTMs... even a test was conducted in 2008.

I have always found that their individual reviews are pretty accurate

HOWEVER

i dont pay attention to the shootouts

why? its biased based on personal feel and opinion. its like trying to convince a CHEVY guy that the Camaro is 2nd to the Mustang.

with that being said i have to agree with them The yz feels the best because its been refined over 10 years. and the engine even longer. and frankly a "newer" bike is going to have to better in every way, not just brakes and holeshots, in order to shake yamaha.

Huh...I have ridden both two strokes and admittingly my opinion is only after one ride on each but I would actually prefer the KTM....so i dont think this result will impress the KTM guys here

Last time I bought a bike based on shootout results was an RM 125 in 1985.

Hey Tonynz, I bought a 1996 CR250 based on the MXA shootout. I think the RM250 won the shootout though. I do remember toying with the idea of buying the RM but went for the CR because I figured it was proven. Sure glad I did. Epic bike! Rode and raced it forever -- right through to 2002 when I bought a YZ250. Two great bikes.

Of course it's based on personal feel and opinion, that's why they ride the bikes. If it wasn't, they'd just put them on a dyno, look at the paper specs, and make assumptions based on those factors. We all know that there's a lot more to the equation than that though...

I say ride what you like, be it white, orange, blue, etc.

Where are you going with this? The design between the two forks are very different and different shim stacks in the WP won't make them like the KYB SSS fork.
