Eliminate the main event and go with 2- 15 lap mains. To combat the track deterioration they can groom the track at 1/2 time.

I think it should be leather & spikes. Loud death metal, lots of fire, strippers, racers with bats, chains. Bring back the cigarette & beer sponsors so the money really pours in. Then we can finally give the lower tier guys benefits & better pay. They'll need health insurance for this series.

What they need is tracks that encourage great racing.. look back at the great battles, and see what kind of course provides the best bar to bar stuff, and build them like that.

I'd like to see them go back to old school rough tracks , the 90's races were brutal, yest the racing was the best ever, and i dont recall guys getting carted off with major injuries every other week.

People will pay to see close racing, no format change will alter that.

slow them down with more technical sections, YES

If you were going to make supercross appeal to everyone, the two classes would have to go. You dont sit down and watch a pro football game for one quarter, have them stop, then the college players come in for a quarter, and so on.

Its especially difficult to explain when you say the bikes are a different size but appear identical.

You've fixed this and my grandaughter and wife are now watching. They get a whole hour of James Stewart and Chad reed, so they are happy and interested. Then what?

They might buy a t shirt or hoodie. Neither purchase bikes, parts, accessories related to the industry.

With all these new people watching, it benefits you and I in what way? We all know what happened when Honda 3 wheelers became popular.

A points reset is pretty much an absolute necessity at this point. You want the top 5 to 10 guys battle it out near the end. That way you can kind of get your groove going during the first half, work out some kinks, maybe not take so many risks. All you need to worry about it getting through to the points reset.

How many times have we seen guys just give up because they have no chance of winning a championship? It hurts the riders motivation and it hurts the fans.

It has to happen.

Why run all those meaningless races when you could just shorten it to a 6 race season? Football wants to kill off its preseason , but having one in SX is now a good idea? It really doesnt have to happen.

No. The point of a 17 round championship is you have to be good for all 17 rounds to win it.
10/25/2015 3:27pm
1) How about only 15 of the 18 rounds counts towards the championship...a rider's three worst finishes are thrown out giving riders some margin for error because everyone has a bad round (or three) at some point. As it is now, one bad start or crash and you're out of the points race for the season.
2) Live TV (or live internet streaming) coverage on a channel that the average person can actually get!

Do Comcast customers not get FS2? I thought most of the races were on FS1

I'm on Comcast and nope I can't get FS2. I do get FS1 though. Not sure what channels they are on, every year it seems to be a little different. I usually have to resort to streaming from my ipad app to watch the races. PITA. First World problems right?

I know that feeling man! My provider luckily has FS2 and MavTV in HD (which I hear is pretty rare). Unfortunately, we don't get CBS Sports so I can't watch the GPs

Since we are never going to have 250 vs 250 in SX can we at least get the damn rules updated to allow 150cc two strokes in the 250 class and 300cc two strokes in the 450 class?

I agree with level.
Every sport has a playoff. By your logic we should get rid of the the superbowl and the world series.
Just take the best record from the regular season and make them the champs.
It gets boring when the points get out of reach.
Say what you want about the NASCAR chase, but from someone who watches all the races, it has added a lot of excitement to the end of the year! The drivers are pushing it big time.

Except that Supercross is racing and football/basketball/baseball are not.

A chase format favors a sport like NASCAR a hell of a lot better than something like Supercross

You just want things to work out in the end. One bad race or an injury that puts a rider out a few races still has a chance to win a championship. Arena cross is a good testing ground for this type of stuff as it should be. They need to test this stuff in Arenacross and see how it works then bring it to SX. I think the points chase is working well there.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, because I still like the idea even when I'm sober:

- Final 1/3 of the races are our "chase"

- No points reset, but main events pay double points during the chase. That rewards early season consistency as well as the ability to rise to the occasion.

- No throwaways, that's just too damned confusing to explain.

- This would also helps generate a little extra interest in the series at a point in the season where it's been the exact same show/package for three months straight, and gives competitors a chance to close the gap if they can get their stuff together.

'shaken up' sounds a bit more than just a change in the points system.
could well be a 3 race format. 1st race as a qualifying race that will award points to some extend and 2 main events.

i kind of like the idea of a 250 stock class (now the 250 class) and a 250 gp class with no restrictions other than sound and fuel (now 450 class). i know it won't happen but i like the idea.

Here's a thought. Award 3, 2, & 1 point(s) to the top three finishers in the heat races, along with a transfer to the main. Remaining riders go to semis. Award one point for winning the semi, and fill the gate, or leave a couple of open spots for an LCQ. This will make the heat races more meaningful and exciting, while leaving more guys for the semis. The entire night program would have more of a race, and less of a qualifying feel. I realize that this would not increase the likelihood of a closer championship points race, but it might complement a playoff scenario nicely.

Adding a couple of laps to both the heats and semis wouldn't hurt either, especially if the LCQ were to be eliminated.

Give one bonus point for every pass that sticks - green flag to checkers.
That could create some interesting strategies.

Make Supercross and Motocross one series. Stretch out the scheduling with less races for the sake of the riders health. Points would be interesting since you have some riders that are better at SX than MX and vise-versa. Just a thought.

How about making it more value for money. Having the guys on the track more and getting rid of half of the fluff they use to fill time between races for us people who pay through the nose so see their favourite rider. And especially us who fly half way across world to see a sx race in person. Average sx lap time of 48 seconds, 8 lap heat is six and half minutes, 20 lap main sixteen minutes!.
Here's a novel idea, extending the race length then you won't need as much crap in between the races to pass the time till the next race. They say they're under time constraints, Call bull on that, add 2 laps to a heat is a min and a half as they're already on track. They need to make mains longer please, give us 20 min main instead of 20 45 seconds laps.
I've rambled on enough I'll stop.
you got it !

30 lap main is a MUST !

more qualifying races to gradually build up the excitement

less down time

and finally, take out half the lame jumps and let the racers RACE against each other down there on the dirt...... in much the same style as Rossi and Marquez.

If Rossi and Marquez had to spend half the time lamely hanging around in the air just waiting to land we would only see half as much racing action.

More jumps that the 450s can do and the 250s can't do will show the uneducated audience the difference in the 2 bikes.

30 lap mains or longer lap times.....for sure!

I think the problem with most of the ideas so far is they will be exciting for the ones who are watching already. If there was ever a hope or desire to sit down and watch "Sunday night Supercross" it has to be simple. It would have to be one race, one class with a simple to understand outcome.
