Biggest surprise of the USGP?

Nelson/McElrath not only so dominate, but so consistent..

Musquin falling way short of expectations..

How about Deano showing he's still no slouch coming back from injury??

Grant NOT going 1-1 (cost me $40 to Five-Hundy-Guy)
Febvre giving it ALL in the heat and hills of GH...when he could have cruised.
Deano putting down his best lap...last! (Pretty sure his 2:16 on the last lap of M2 was his fastest)
Webb flowing like Dubach...anyone notice how solid his riding was? Smooooooooth... I
AC racing the 2nd Moto...IN PAIN
Davi getting better as the weekend went on versus hauling ass on Sat & cruising on Sun
TLD Crushing it

Ok just because he was left out.... how about BT101 running the pace in that first moto? For a retired guy, pretty damn impressive outing even if the results don't show it.

And though it wasn't a big surprise that Millsaps didn't podium, I will give him credit for finishing both motos racing to the end. It has been several years for him since outdoors, and in 100 degree heat for a race that didn't really matter he still stuck with it and kept fighting. I honestly expected him (and a few others) to just call it a day and head for the pits mid-moto.

Here goes:

-Febvre showing he is a pure RACER! Going from solid MX2 rider but always WAY behind Herlings to MXGP-champ and taking all my doubts about him away.
-Coldenhoff being the second not-AMA-rider.
-Cairoli finally back at his usual pace but obviously in pain.
-Josh Grant showing he deserves a good contract for 2016
-Webb showing he knows his way round on the 450

How easy the Americans adapted to the weekend schedule of a GP that RV so often talked about as if it was a science or...

Maybe it was an excuse?

Just looking on the mxgp website to see how many spectators turned up, they put " Crowd Attendance: 22,000" which i'm sure is being a little optimistic.

Can anyone who went comment on the crowds , hopefully next year a few more ama riders attend which i'm sure would help pull in a crowd

I was really impressed by Nelson, McElrath and Aldredge. Did not expect them to win that easy.
Also expected Musquin to be top 3.

What also impresses me is the americans talking down on their own riders. I mean why call a guy who just won a GP a 5-10th place guy whereas he ran upfront an AMA national numberous of times? I mean the only guy who didn't really had that speed all year was McElrath but you all know that Nelson, Aldredge, Webb and Grant are very capable of being a 1-5 guy.

I don't blame him for a so so ride at all, I know I wouldn't even be out there if I was in his shoes! Sad
Yeah, I expect to see a fired up Musquin at de nations.
Dude is smart no need to hang it out.

My biggest suprised of weekend I always here the broadcaster say how tall bobreyshev is.... On the podium paulin looked as tall if not taller.

Was dissapointing at how far off the aussie were off the pace this weekend.

I was a little suprised by Webb and pleasantly so because to me he rode really well but didn't get too crazy which bodes well for next week.

Febvre in many ways was the biggest suprise because even though I watched him grow into a great champion over the course of this season I did not expect him to ride like such a boss at GH. Grant displayed his prowess there and we expected that but Romain rode like a true GP champ in the way he started so so took a little time getting going and then just ran every body down.

Nelson had 4 moto podiums all yr. mcElrath had 1. Aldridge had 2 podiums but had far more motos with 0 points scored than podiums. All three are very talented riders but were not much of a threat for O/A this season. It's not a knock on them or "taking them down" to be surprised by their results yesterday.

Grant flies at GH so no big deal there, but it was Webb's first 450 race. He beat a lot of very fast and talented GP regulars.

Grant is very fast at glen helen. He won last years nationals beating dungey, roczen, tomac etc etc so no surprise there. And as zach osbourne said, grant rides glen helen atleast a couple of times every week. The surprise was webb in my opinion. Dude can ride a bike thats for sure. He is going to win everything in the US once he starts racing 450.

He looked solid didn't he? It also looked like there is a much untapped potential there between comfort and bike set up.

A more solid and results-oriented takeaway is how big of an advantage racing on a familiar track/track style is Wink

I see your point, but it was just one moto and Tomac wasn't there. Josh does fly there though! He was showing some awesome style. While I was there I was thinking about his debut in 2004, came out of nowhere to almost win!

If only that guy didn't get hurt so much. It killed me to hear how bad his hip gets after riding. He'll probably have to take a week off after yesterday to recuperate for des nations. Such a beast though.

I was surprised to see a Canadian in the Line-up.

I was super proud to see Deano pull his best lap later in the race.

I totally overlooked Coldenhoff!

..worthy of a ride???

..where?

And I have to say that overall I'm surprised by the "buzz" that the GP brought this year. Everybody seems very happy with it no matter your address!
And that's rad.

I think Dean Wilson showed everybody that he will be a podium guy 2016 if he stays fit.

Webb was very good, but that's something i almost expected. The guy will be a 450 champion or at least winner. Dungey was good at his first 450 races also, it's nothing new when you're special.

Cairoli is going to be freaking dangerous next season. He had the speed to go 1-1, not the fitness.

Febvre is on rails, the move on Webb got me almost screaming in front of my monitor.

Paulin was yet again disappointing. I hope he steps up in Ernee.

Musquin was average, but he has been through/going through a tragedy with his brother.

Millsaps moto 2 was a surprise, i thought he would be a 13-16 guy both motos.

Coldenhoff shows that he will be a contender for podiums and wins on the Red Bull KTM next year.

Based on the pictures of the track, that wasn't the same track they are used to practicing on. Big ruts, holes and generally all around beat!

Febrve...hands down. Racing Americans in their own backyard and he laid the wood on em. This guy will be a stud for years to come in mxgp.

No Grant didn't win GH last year. Tomac was 5-8 seconds a lap faster than Grant at 2015 GH national and put 20-30 seconds on 2cd and 3rd and anywhere from 1:30 to 2:00 minutes on Grant both motos.

Josh Grant won moto 1 at Glen Helen 2014. He beat Dungey, Roczen, Barcia, Stewart, Canard, Reed.

Grant is very fast at Glen Helen.

... but we have to pack our own gates..and the board is different.

Was a good GP though, i would have liked to see Gajser wrap it up in Moto 1 so he could have had no worries and had more of a go.

I was surprised Grant lasted so well for two Moto's , but not at his speed round there.
