I was a junior in H.S. in 1978. I remember these great bikes in the mags. I had a million little cutout pics stapled all over my walls. Marty Smith with #9 was badass.

Are those Mike Chamberlain aluminum shock bodies that the Girlings internals fit into? I ran those upside down on one of my Maicos if memory serves correct.

Doesn't look like top shock mount area would allow for inverse mount on this RC125

SouthwestMfg that could be. I'm trying to figure out where that shot was taken. That might very well be his race bike from 1975. The picture above was taken at the 1976 National at Hangtown. That was the last year Marty held the #1 plate. Marty Smith was and still is a very regular guy. He is very approachable. We even sat down with him and had a beer after a Trans Am qualifier in Livermore in 1976. He and Tommy Croft raced pre-production 250 Elsinores. He recently showed up at Euro Cycles a shop in Orangevale, California that I frequent. I have hundreds of pictures from the mid 70s to the mid 80s. They are all mixed up (like me) from years of moving them from here to there.
