This gives me even more respect for guys like Pourcel, who probably wasn't what he seems. He was just so guarded.

For somebody who is introverted, it is a lot easier to build a wall than to open up to people. But usually they mellow as they gain some wisdom. Even CP is doing a lot more stuff in the open with his Charity Days

i believe his name was long board grotto on ebay. can't recall the name of the shop. from what my friend told me, and he bought a lot of stuff from him, was that he was closing the surf shop and selling everything on ebay. but that was many years ago. if you happen to find a pic please post it up on here, that would be awesome. i have found a few other pics of JMB wearing other OCD painted JT helmets but not this one. thanks for all the info. and trust me the helmet is in a very good home of a JMB fan and MX collector. if i get a chance i'll post up some pics of my pro helmets. thanks again.

Great interview. Thanks for posting it.

JMB is one of the all time greats. He is one of those rare riders like David Bailey and Kevin Windham whose style and technique is so perfect that just watching them ride is educational. I was really bummed when he retired.

And for anyone that doubted that Dungey was going to win on a KTM, all of the answers are in that interview.

Excellent interview.. It's great to see Bayle be very open and speak his mind.. I'm an introvert that likes to keep to myself so I can relate to guys like him and Pourcel in that way.. I don't give a damn how a racer interviews or if he even attends press conferences, just love to watch great racers moto.. Watching Bayle and CP is pure poetry in motion!!

I grew up around very narrow minded people that absolutely hated foreigners.. I can remember walking away from friends many times as a youngster when they screamed or booed foreign riders.. It ate at me so bad inside because these guys put in countless hours to become what many dream of and few achieve,, a professional motocross racer. I always was a fan of foreign riders, they made the racing way better and much more interesting... I greatly appreciate all the foreign riders that left their home country and sacrificed so much to give us fans a chance to watch the best racers in the world.. Cool
I agree, excellent interview! Very refreshing to have some new insight and wise perspective.

As you can tell he is my favorite rider of all time. When JMB raced, Americans generally did not appreciate this supremely talented rider. He mentions how people weren't nice to him here in the states. I remember going to Anaheim in '91 and hearing him booed mercilessly by a raucous, xenophobic crowd.

Thanks for posting this Amanda!
Yeah I will admit that I hated his ass back in the day but I certainly appreciate his abilities nowadays.

Who else would you like to see a 411 with?
How about...

Johnson and Ward together? I'd also be interested in Bradshaw and Chicken. A rivals series would be awesome. Another 2 I'd be interested in would be Fred Andrews and Rodney Smith. Not as rivals really, but because both "struggled" in MX but went to to greatness as woods racers. I think Mike Jones would be another interesting interview.

We basically got the Bradshap/Chicken interview when they went head to head a few years ago in vegas... remember? Bradshaw waxed Chicken in the exibition race.
At the press conference they still didn't have any time / love for each other...

I don't normally bring back 3 year old posts but I was reading the collectible post and decided to search Google for the one piece I wish hadn't sold and it led me back to where I started. I think I commented on another thread that the picture of the helmet showed up but I had never seen this one. That helmet has been owned by at least 3 Vital members and nobody got it from either of the others. I got that helmet off Ebay in 99 or 2000, it was listed as Quad/MX helmet, nothing else. The pictures weren't very good but I was pretty sure it was a Bayle helmet. I don't remember what I paid but I don't think it was more than $30 with shipping. I tried to find a picture of him wearing it and couldn't. I decided it must have been a display helmet done by OCD which was his painter, especially because of the size. I put it back on Ebay a couple of years later when we bought our house and got about 10 times what I paid for it. I must have sold it to the surf shop owner, I vaguely remember the buyer saying he had a shop. I assumed he meant motorcycle shop. That's it, just wanted to add more of the story to this thread.

Just reread the thread, now I'm not sure who I sold it to. Maybe I sold it to uk125250, maybe not.

Wow, I had forgot about that. I looked at her Facebook page, it looks like she's doing an online show with RJ http://teas.toyotaescondido.com/ Kinda bummed I brought this back up. But it looks like mom and baby are doing OK. From her Twitter page.
