Kinda funny ... DM will be running the #1 plate while the actual SX champ is running the 5? I know, I know, it's a one-off race, but it still a bit weird in some ways.

I'm thinking the same... $30k a year is insanely low. Understanding he has outside sponsors but that just seems ridiculous.

$30,000 a year? Furreal? If so, I'd say BTO has already won this year.
same amount JGR paid him the first year he rode for them.

he must be in good with the gear companies and outside backers.

It's not weird at all. This is not related in any way to Supercross or Nationals. Therefore it doesn't matter who the SX champ is. All that matters is who won it last, and they reserve the right to run the #1 plate.

I thought I heard he was racing for bonuses only. That would be very smart of the team to help keep him motivated.

His deal is SX only.
Forrest was pretty clear, that it wasn't because they didn't want him for outdoors, but what they want to do is change the game, just work on one season (SX or MX) at a time. If Davi can't do all of SX, then they'll look at outdoors. Davi is getting to the end, so focus on one season at a time, worry about one thing at a time.

and that number?
LOL

Because they feel really good. Wouldn't trade stock KTM levers for anything else
You obviously have tried these then Smile

Yes, the stock levers are good.. But this guy is a serious nerd and has an awesome product.

Do they own, rent or lease?
Sure that is THEIR property?
They pay for it in cash or mortgage?
How much is in the BANK is what really counts, doesn't it?

I guess I was just assuming that a rider of davi's caliber would have a base salary a lot higher than the kid that sacks groceries at the store down the street.

And, yes, I'll be the first to admit that I know absolutely nothing about what these guys make.

Imagine that a pro's base pay is like a free savings account!

It is my understanding that the pay is insanely low for almost all of these guys, they only loophole being if you are at the very least winning multiple races per year, getting consistent podium exposure, and finishing seasons.

How many guys go on that list?

PS. Good luck Davi!

This sport is dead. Back in the late 90s, early 00s, guys like DV made more money running around in 5th than the front runners of today make. Fact.

No one gets it: DAVI has to PRODUCE to get paid.

While that's very true, you realize that there are several riders pushing the 7 figure mark and a few that are already being paid 7 figures, right ? There are another group, (I'm going to guess 6-8) that are in the $250K + a year club.
Then there's maybe 15 more guys in the $30K- $100K range. I'm guessing at least 10 guys that make the night show are racing for bonuses only. (Just my guess....) Wink I'm talking 450 class here !

As far as the 250 class, I'm sure there are only a few riders making over 6 figures and most of the other supported riders between $30K and $100K. But again, I'm just guessing, based on what I DO know.

EITHER WAY, they are all very under paid. There's no reason that every rider that can make the show, shouldn't get a descent check for his efforts. We could go on all day about the riders being under paid for the risk vs. reward.

There's got to be a serious BONUS structure for hm to agree to that. To live the lifestyle he's use to living takes a descent income. I'm sure he's got some of his money put away (I would hope), but if he doesn't produce, he's going to go through some cash quickly. Smart thing for BTO to do, definetly going to motivate him to perform.

You're right. I don't get it. IMO, this sport is too dangerous to make a living structured like that. But, to each his own. If the rider's ok with it, then so am I.
