I think they've done okay. The track looks like it has good flow, it's not filled with jumps, and it should get pretty rough. It's no Lierop, but it's alright
Why settle for mediocrity though? Because that's what it is.

Assen looks horrendous, at least Zolder looked like fun and the SackRing or wherever we raced in Germany was kinda fun.

Jake Nicholls ‏@JakeNicholls45 28m28 minutes ago
@1frankspencer yea obvi, but that's a bit irrelevant. It's a shithole track that's 1-30 long. We'd all Prob enjoy it for 5 min. But 4 a gp!!

this is just stupid.
there are plenty of great tracks around europe to find already.

put the construction money in the pockets of the riders instead.
Bingo.

Im actually really worried about this, 75cm isn't enough.
Builder already covering his ass by alluding to there being too many classes on the track. Thinks the circuit "needs" facilities like this.

I watched it too just now and I agree. Looks like it's going to be a rough track come sunday.

I agree, the track is mediocre, I would much rather they have it at Lierop. But, Assen has world class facilities and if you're showing a potential sponsor from outside the sport around to try and get them to invest, then it's a proper paddock, grandstands, pit garages and all the crap that we couldn't care less about that is going to make them more likely to invest than if they turned up and walked across a muddy paddock. So I can see why we have races like this, even if I wish we didn't have them

The facilities are world class but the track is bad, i know it's the first year at Assen but i would expect a better track.

What would you do to make it better? Other than move it to Lierop. It could probably do with being longer, but when the race distance is a period of time, not a number of laps, lap time isn't too much of an issue

I guess I'm going against the grain here. Just watched a couple helmet cams and I thought the track looked ok. It isn't riddled with a bunch of huge jumps and tricky timing sections. Looks kinda like ol' school MX to be honest. I bet it proves to show some good racing as I bet lap times will be very similar. Starts will definitely be important there.

- Ceate some some big off camber turns at the top of large piles of sand.

- Dump a load of sand at irregular intervals so riders really have to think about the quickest line through them; whether to pick their way through or whether they can double or triple sections.

- Build bomb holes

- Build a set of consecutive obstacles back to back; sand whoops into a camel back or a small jump that can be used to pre-jump a bigger mound of sand.

- Build a slope that peaks at around 20ft and stick a turn right at the top, or a chicane with a steep, stepped descent down the other side of it.

- Build a ramp onto the top of a single story building, do a U-turn and jump back down off of it (obviously this may be a bit too elaborate, but it's an option).

"Aaah the marketing director of Kone lifts! Welcome sir, can I interest you in a volovant? Please take a seat and enjoy a track and a setting that bears little actual resemblence to the sport of Motocross."

"What's that? Yes I suppose this venue does look rather empty and desolate when the apathetic fans that did bother to turn up are concentrated in just this small corner of the circuit, but the parking and facilites are first class. Sorry? No I'm afraid you won't find the same facilites at many other circuits. Usually it involves getting your loafers wet and muddy. It's an 'off-road' sport you see, with races held historically on rolling hillsides, but for the right price we can have some girls carry you around in a ceremonial chair like the Pope if you like."

That would all be better. But they're limited, firstly on the amount of sand they have, and secondly the time constraints of building and demolishing the track. With all those things considered I don't think the track is that bad. I can completely understand your point, it's nothing like what we are traditionally used to, I would rather see a race at somewhere like Lierop for sure, but I'm also willing to accept that's can't and won't stay the same forever. 2/3 tracks like this out of 18 I can live with.

Regarding your other point I can also see where you're coming from there, but it's all about first impression. The managing director of kone lifts isn't going to visit many GP's but he's going to be more interested in the facilities and professionalism than the track or the racing. Like I said before, you and I couldn't care less about that kind of stuff, but Luongo and YS clearly feel it's important.

Been there today. The track was tight and the sand was loose. The jumps where too small. The speed of the riders was pretty low, becouse of that.

From a spectator point of view this is an awesome event. You can see a big part of the track from the stands. Also perfectly organized.

Utah looks like Millville compared to that piece of shit. Horrible. If that is the future of World Motocross, I am saddened by it's passing. I do not remotely recognize the sport with this kind of thing. I'm all for innovation, but this truly jumped the shark.
