I'll record it on my sky + and watch it when I get back from racing, but wouldn't say I was excited about it. If it was at lierop then I would have booked a ferry to get over there and watch it- that place needs to be back on the mxgp calendar NOW!

people bang on about lommel being this fantastic sand track- its rubbish compared to lierop!!! lierop is the best gp to go to in Holland / Belgium in my opinion. Real nice setting in the middle of the trees, and you can get up close to the track, to watch those guys race round there is something else! needs to be seen in person to appreciate just how tough it gets on gp weekend
Maybe it's because I'm Dutch but I really don't get the excitment about Lierop.
Don't get me wrong, it's a cool track and one of the toughest but there is no elevations at all and spectator viewing kinda sucks.
It's because of the straights with 90 degree corners through the woods, riders pass you and you'll be waiting for 2 minutes before you see 'm again.

I've got he same feeling. Also about Lommel, I never understand what the fuzz is all about, apart from those two being one of the deepest sandtracks in the world. I'm having way more fun at tracks in France, Britain or Italy.

Atleast at Lommel you can follow the racing better with the current track lay out.
And it has some nice 180 turns which is good for picture taking.

It's just different. I guess because you're from the Netherlands there's a lots of tracks like that and to you it's maybe not as special. But I just think it's cool watching everyone through the same bit of track, rather than watching the top 3 all the way around the track.

Yea, I guess I watched and raced on too many of those tracks here.
I like Matterley because of the view and can't understand Brits complaining about it. Laughing

In my opinion the natural landscape should challenge the riders as much as possible and ideally offer idiosyncratic features that can't be replicated easily. That's what distinguishes one track from another.

When tracks are purposely built on flat, or gently undulating ground (like Matterley) they end up looking generic and feeling soulless because they have no character. All they consist of are the formulaic & perfectly manicured jumps which all the riders (even 85cc riders) can do in their sleep these days.

I could probably find more enthusiasm for Matterley again if they would at least change the layout. The fact that it's a basically just a wide expanse of flattish ground means it's effectlively a blank canvass.

I think Matterley is great, I would like to see a couple of changes but certainly no complaints. Lierop and Matterley just offer different viewing experiences. You can get much closer to the track in Lierop

Lierop is a great track to attend a race. Not because you can see the entire track but because there is a great atmosphere and you can stand close to the track cheering on the riders. Lierop always delivers great racing and good timesGrinning

Wondering whether there may be more grading between races if the sand digs out to the boards too quick, which I guess it will.

Bet there will be plenty bulldozers around to keep that from happening Rob.
You doing the co-commentating on this one again?

I would think there would have to be. I can't see that track standing up all weekend without going down to the boards

Well the ride-through/street promotion is one positive at least. Ive aways believed this was something they should try and do whenever possible.

The difference with Assen and Lommel in terms of the natural terrain is zero. Lommel is a flat sand track in an industrial estate in Belgium. This is a flat sand track in the middle of one of the most iconic motorcycle venues in the world. I think motorcycle fans call it 'The Cathedral' or something.

OK , I gotta ask this. But what is with all the " sand tracks " in the GP's over the past 5yrs or so? I always remembered the GP's having a couple here and there , but now it seems like every other track is sand?

From the outside looking in , our tracks are getting so all the dirt is the same. Like deep , perfect loam , but they ALL are getting to be that way! We need a variety here as well. Some sand , some hard pack , ect...

It just seems that the GP's now have more " sand tracks " than actual " Dirt tracks " ?? And if it is dirt , they let that shit get hard as a rock.

Where do you GP guys see this going in the next 5yrs or so? And is it good or bad?

Bloody hell jerkfro , you do know hard pack aint real racing , don't you ?

Seriously though , you have just spent the last few days calling me all the names under the sun and anti American , just because I had the audacity to criticise Dungeys track comments , and it would seem that you actually agree with me !

I don't like this concept of built track at GP's at all. But then again... Supercross and especially Daytona works, so I''ll give it a chance.

I agree . I don't think one or at the most two races of this type in an 18 event series is necessarily a bad thing if done right.

I think they've done okay. The track looks like it has good flow, it's not filled with jumps, and it should get pretty rough. It's no Lierop, but it's alright
