Thanks Ryan....That first pic was right after a rain in the desert. Anybody who has lived in the desert knows there is nothing light riding in the desert right after a rain. Perfect traction.
For us Ohio racers the Dayton gravel pit was our desert. We would to our The Man bar dragging since there was traction galore after a rain.

When was the last time you started with a rubber band start? They were prevalent in the midwest through 72 but by 74 had pretty much disappeared......usually into someone''s spokes. LOL

3 motos were history by 74 if memory serves correct.

Silencers arrived in 72 thank God.

I wasn't around in the 70s but my dad was and I've heard a lot of his stories from back then and seen some photos. He was an amateur cartoonist for a while during that time and I've got a few of his drawings that are still around. This is one of my favorites.

Collage I made way back. Whacked a bunch of good magazines. Still hanging on the wall in the moto tomb.

Old moto art, still in the tomb.

Not locals. But classic early 70's motocross. At Saddleback. There are a few names you'll recognize. No sound. Still good to see.

At the Highland Hills National Labor Day weekend 1974 MIke Hartwig shocked the MX world by saying good bye to his factory Yamaha and returning to his original brand Husqvarna

1974 Honda CR 125 Elsinore Casey IL. (Mark Barnett Raced here) area........sometimes in 1st place but never finishing in 1st. place...always 2, 3, or worse. Really would have liked a coach back then. Notice the inexpensive way of mounting the shocks forward, weld a new bracket on the swing arm worked pretty well.

A few shots of me at Saddleback's main track. The last one was at the track in back of the main track. That's Tim Lunde behind me and Rick Maki in blue and white behind Lunde. I won the XR 80 in a CMC series in 1978.

Killer pics Andy. Thanks for sharing.

Valley Cycle Park, Moorpark CA. 1974. Saw this thread a week ago and went and dug up some of photos they had from Valley Cycle ( Muntz), and Indian Dunes.

I remember seeing this on TV when I was about 12 years old and racing xr75s myself. Thought it was the coolest thing. Wasn't it some kind of weekly kids show hosted by kids or something. They did little documentaries like yours on kids that did sports and stuff.

Yeah I saw this thread and thought all these photos everyone had of old the old tracks were cool. Dug these up at my parents house. found some more but not too good of quality. I think there are a few more from Indian dunes. Raced on and off until 83'. Got back into riding in 2002. Hurt my back real bad a few years back at the Piru track in Fillmore and haven't really ridden much since. Im looking at back surgery possibly.

Whoops. Guess I didn't click the quote button ? Was supposed to be a response to Hallzillas post.

Actually I guess I did do it right. I am kinda new to this posting pictures and responding and quoting stuff.

Post a reply to: 70s MX racing. Got pics?
