Love how crabby the KTM fan boys get over a couple people saying they've mostly seen it happen to KTMs. Truth hurts, I guess, because I've seen more orange bikes with the front end snapped off than any other. Most probably running aftermarket clamps. Nobody said it only happens to them like your dumb comments indicate. And two of those bikes Crush posted with snapped frames are only because somebody didn't know what they were doing with an AF conversion (Honda and Kawi).
Ok, so in reality only KTM bikes will snap clamps off unless another bike is customized, then it can happen? Got it Woohoo

When Applied Racing told us in the late 90's, there was a time were every bike on the start line of a sx main had Applied clamps, I have a pic somewhere. Like the black rim of today.

Seem to be a lot of conversion bikes that have broken frames.

Those are frames that have been cut and modified to fit a two stroke motor. Basically irrelevant

You may want to take some night classes on reading comprehension. Two of the bikes posted were AF conversions. Fact. Same bikes that aren't AF conversions are also pictured broken. Not really sure what you're going for here, but it was a failed attempt. Sorry if it hurts your feelings that I've seen it happen to more KTMs than anything else. I have nothing against KTM except for the obsessed fan boys that get together and circle jerk each other. KTM, the new Honda. Woohoo

Exactly!! Any aluminum frame that completely snaps in half like that lets go where it was modified then breaks the upper spars as well. Just like in the pics Crush posted of AF conversions.

yes. lots of things in the air, fab skill, amount of precision. welding skill, material used, and mount relocations all add to things that could go wrong. most of the guys that have done these i would rate fab and welding ive seen are mediocre at BEST. so its hard to say whats causing the breakage, unless its glaring obvious.

This quote ^^^^^^^^^^ is from the post you quoted with your reply. You posted that I implied "only KTM bikes will snap clamps off unless another bike is customized, then it can happen". I specifically said in that post the opposite of what you are insinuating. Apparently you either didn't see that part or couldn't comprehend it. Here's a link to those classes:

That feeling you get when snot nose little shits constantly post inaccurate opinions as fact......

Friend's KTM showed hairline cracks on the frame/welds around the steering stem. He got a new frame for free on an old bike, but it's still scary as hell. But then again i've seen hairline cracks on alu frames to, and even on fucking engines... Maintenance is key to discover that shit before it blows in your face. That's why i'm always cleaning and inspecting my bike after a riding day. Braking a frame/footpeg mount/anything that needs to be rigid after a crash is nothing suprising imo. Bikes are not indestructible... Im surprised those pro's don't brake bikes more often. Laughing

1983 RM 125 the bike was 3 monts old first moto Saturday Saddleback (45 minute +2 lap motos those were the days) broke the frame just above front motor mount pegs went to the ground. Took it home pulled the motor used a comalong to pull it back together and welded it up. Made some gussits took the pipe off my practice bike finished up about 2:00am slept a couple of hours and raced the next day CMC Saddleback.

My 99 KX250 with steel frame had about 15 hairline cracks, I welded the important ons..
A friends 99 KX250 had almost 40, even on areas where you would think isn't that much stress on the frame.

Happens on every bike, my worst was said KX. But no triple clamp problems in 17 years of racing...

No 90s steel frame bikes were two strokes, you can't snap a bike that has a two stroke engine as they are a far superior motocross machine.

Ture Story.

wrong - he would have lit one up, grabbed a cold one out of his back pocket, popped the top and drank it with one hand, while carrying the bike underneath the other arm with two hot chicks on his back

Interestingly I was loosening the top clamp on a 150SX and this happened. Always been torqued properly.

Not my bike, but something about this bike looks off. The rake of the front end seems a bit choppered out.

Is this one the next victim of the snap dragon ?

Is that a '12...If so, they updated that clamp...

I think they were... When you hear the factory level mechanics and team guys talk about racing production frames back then, they swapped them out due to stress, stretching and fatigue.

Anecdotes don't mean shit, but here are mine...

I've heard JT$ talk about re-welding his shock mount on those old Kawasakis between Nationals every week... I had one of those bikes, but I was a beginner back then and not hard enough on the bikes to have any issues.

I owned a 1989 RM250 as a teenager. After owning it for a few years, the frame became so soft and flexy that the head-stay would pull up on the cylinder-head enough to crack the base of the cylinder. I didn't find any cracks in the frame, but I welded in some gussets. That bike handled well, but it was very poorly made.

I have thought the same thing... Forgings are typically much stronger than a billet. Especially a billet with a bunch of sharply machined edges. Looks like a giant stress-riser to me.

I've seen people running these "Universal" brand clamps from China too. I don't know for sure, but I think those may be a casting...
