A little over a year ago, everyone was wondering what was wrong with Yamaha... they hadn't had a win in forever. Now they're dominating the sport, along with KTM. Honda's bikes seem to be pretty strong too, it's just that all their top riders are hurt. But what's up with Kawi lately? They have dropped off the map. Seeing Savatgy on the box today, I was like, oh yeah... that's what the color green looks like.

Quick? It took them 5 years.

They went from having the slowest bike by far to the fastest bike by far.

I don't think they would have been able to keep Webb and Martin if they were still on those old shittas.

The green bikes are in a transition due to RV and Ac being injured. Reed won a sx in 450 class This sport is so much more of a survivor series than a weekly competition.

AC being injured?

Did Savatgy not land on the podium today.

Sure Kawi will have a few wins next year with Tomac.

The Yamaha has only really struggled for wins in the U.S since the new bike came out, I think it has more to do with the riders that they have had more so than the bike.

Sure they had James and James won a few races, but they now once again have a rider who is a genuie chance of winning every time he hits the track.

No doubt what ever they have sorted for getting the bikes off the line is working a treat for them.

OK, maybe "dominating" is too strong a word... I just know that the podiums in both classes have been seeing a lot of orange and blue lately. (BTW, 'dominating' only has one T smartass)

I was speaking in terms of race victories... going into Glen Helen just last year, Yamaha hadn't had a 250 class victory in ELEVEN YEARS. Only one year later, they're on the top step of the podium damn near every week.

I think it only takes a good bike for a brand to completely rejouvenate itself. Ktm did it (with the help of roger and co.) with its renewed 450 back in 2012? I believe. Yamaha has a bitchin chassis/motor design that is proven out of the box with this new generation and its winning in almost every class across the world. When the consumers believe in a product, it really makes the manufacturers proud and want to promote that product i.e. Factory support teams, amature support, etc. never been a big fan of the big blue, but i must give props where its deserved.

I think a lot of this "this bike sucks" or "that bike sucks" is overblown. Like how Reed bitched about the Honda when TC was hauling ass on it. Riders can be finicky whiney babies and when they don't like the bike it turns into mass hysteria of how unrideable it is. You're right 3 years ago the Yamaha was only for desperate guys who couldn't find a ride anywhere else and was known as a pos because the front end was unstable but now everyone raves about it.

I watched racing in 1986, when 3/4 of the bikes were complete dogshit, and the riders never seemed to have "setup issues". That phrase is a catch-all used by anybody that just has a shitty ride on that day. Bikes these days are like space shuttles compared to the old days, but to hear some of these riders youd think they were building their bikes from scratch every week and testing it out on raceday. Ridiculous nonsense and one rider in particular uses it as excuse after excuse.

I get your point, but sport, bikes, speed, tracks has evolved so much since back in a day that set-up and bike is at least 10x more important than back in a day.

I dont remember anyone hauling ass on the current Honda until the last few races of last years nationals.

On the flip side, bikes are so good nowadays that getting it "setup" is only a few adjustments away. Even if you miss the mark the bike will still work damn good. Back in the '80s a good setup meant the difference between an unrideable piece of shit or at least being raceable.

This is true though. More so KTM but Yamaha has the 2014 250 outdoor and 2015 250 sx west titles. Looks like Martin is going to defend that title this year too. Barcia has been showing the potential of the 450 (and himself) lately as well.

And besides the podium results, the Yammers are getting great starts too... Bam Bam and Philthy have been doing it lately, but last year Pourcel grabbed some holeshots. I even saw Top Jimmy pull a holeshot in SX this year.

To me it seems that KTM has clearly poured a lot of money into R&D (and R.D.) and developed a great bike, and now the other manufacturers are responding in kind. Maybe 2 years from now I'll be posting about how Suzuki and Kawasaki are killing it. Or Husky. Who knows?

Its all in whos on the bike, yamaha was not massivly worse in the past or not so much so thea a top rider and team couldnt have worked through. Look at honda once they got away from the pogosticks they improved, they just need a top rider.

Anyone heard some HP-numbers on those Star Racing yamahas ? The rumours says its impressive

And yes I know it is stupid to talk HP numbers...it's all about power to the ground etc, etc...

But just interesting to know how much they push these 250f's

I dont agree about the tracks, you can't tell me that a motocross track today is as gnarly as they used to be back in old school 500GP days...

I dare say that tracks were a lot rougher back then, and way shittier suspension.

I disagree with the tracks being rougher in the past. I raced some nationals in 84 and 85 and with the exception of Unadilla, they were not that bad. You never saw the ruts with what are basically whoops in them like you see now. It seemed just as rough though because of the quality of suspension compared to now.
