Looking to plan a vacation, haven't really been out to the Northwest part of the US or the Northeast. Think I could talk the wife into attending one of these nationals to incorporate into a trip. We like to do "outdoors" type of stuff, hiking, adventure sports, state/national parks. Any recommendations for either? Wouldn't mind Utah to visit, but don't think I have a desire to spectate at that race.

Not saying ny isn't beautiful but I'm sure it has nothing on Washington. Dilla is always just a rowdy, drunken profanity filled after noon with people asking your wife to show her breasts. So if she's not cool with that I suggest you skip that one. People on here say shoug is really strict with alcohol? Idk if it's true never been there and I'm sure it has it's fair share of rowdy fans but dilla can be a little much for un expecting wife's. Idk the area to well but Cooperstown baseball hall of fame is right down the road if you're really into baseball.

Too bad you missed colorado. We have all that stuff here. But as far as those 2 go I'd probably hit shoug. Just looks great on TV and pictures. Lots of cool guys from here I want to meet for some beers!

Washougal all the way! As far as the national goes, I don't know which one is better, but there are amazing outdoor things to do in the northwest, and the track is at least more scenic than Unadilla. Near the town of Washougal itself, there are a ton of beautiful hikes, and there are a lot state/national parks as well.

If you're referring to when all the leaves start changing color, the week of the national is not fall. Everything is still bright green. Maybe it was later when you went?

Been to both. Live in NY so maybe I'm biased. Unadilla it seems like you can see more the track from certain points. Washougal, from my point of view, was hard to see even sitting on the hill, but the different parts of the track were pretty cool. Definitely an awesome experience going though. You really cannot go wrong with either of them. I took my wife to both and no issues with people was my experience.

With one of the most heavily attended nationals with gorgeous scenery, the very cool town of Portland 30 minutes from the track, literally in the foothills of the beautiful Cascade mountain range, at the entrance to the Columbia Gorge, and the spectacular Oregon coast 90 minutes away...Washougal.

But I'm biased!

The scene at Dilla has cleaned up as of the past few years. The amateur pits at night can get a little "fun" but if you're just going for the day of the national you should have a great time. The Adirondack Park should be visited by everyone at least once in their life, sounds like it would be right up your alley. Hiking, lakes, great places to stay. Old Forge is fun but a bit more commercialized, the village of Inlet is on the Fulton chain of lakes and there are places to rent mountain bikes, boats, canoes etc. I live a half hour north of Dilla and have been vacationing in the Adirondacks since childhood, feel free to send me a PM if I can answer any questions you might have.

No bias here, since I'm a Canuck, but Washougal any day of the week. I've been down through NY a million times, and while it's nice, it's not the Pacific Northwest.

I was just going to say this! PIR on the Thursday night before the national is almost like a mini-supercross!

As far as spectating at Unadilla , it sucks bad! I've had many of my freinds go there for the races ( spectating and racing ) and the guys watching say's it's one of the worst tracks they have ever been to as far as being able to watch the race.

I'm from the NW and maybe sound biased , but Washougal is just simply awesome.

Oh hell....pick one this year , and hit the other one next year! Didn't mean to sound like I was slamming Dilla , the track itself is legendary.

As far as the spectating being not so great at Washougal, I always combated this by being mobile. Move around throughout the day and see different parts of the track. You might find yourself in some tucked away corner where there is a really cool line that one fast guy has figured out and hes making passes there.

And the surrounding area is just beautiful. Lots of hiking to be had in the cascades, waterfalls, the ocean isnt too far away if you want to spend some time there.

I haven't seen hardly any of that stuff at Unadilla in 10 years. Yeah, it used to be really bad, I mean in the early 80's they had cops on horseback patrolling.... gravity cavity was a war zone. Thats when they backed up "the other side sucks" chant by throwing bottles and rocks at the other side. And forget being female, you didnt want to be there.

But like I said, its gotten better and better over the years and that stuff is gone.

Being from NY I'm based towards Dilla but you can't go wrong either way. Dilla is pretty sick with the sky shot, gravity cavity and the wall but that's hard to compete with the beauty of the PNW.

We've been to Millville, Redbud and Budscreek, so she isn't afraid to walk around all day in the sun to view different spots. Haven't been to a national since RC's farewell tour so would like to see what's all changed. I'm leaning to Washington, have to see how schedules work out. Thanks for the input.

Not considering the race, pacific northwest wins hands down. The Oregon Coast is a beautiful drive, Olympic national park is north of there, and depending g how much time you have, the Redwoods aren't too far away from there either, I'll be heading back there this fall

Having been to washougal countless times, id love to see unadilla. For a road trip to see other sites, washougal for sure. Mt St. Helens is right there and very cool and unique. It's not super far to crater lake NP, also cool and unique. Plus the OR coast, or up to seattle and the San Juan islands. So many options. And the best time of year for the PNW (since the wet side can suck 9 months a year).

If you're coming to Washougal plan your trip around Portland OR, & not Seattle, WA. They're completely different entities.

I believe JS7 made the mistake one of year of flying into Seatac on accident and almost missed the race.

Washougal is basically on the border is the Columbia River or Drano Lake which happens to be the South West boarder or NW border of OR & WA depending on how you see it.

I grew up in NY and now live in Portland. Washougal is an amazing place. I bet your wife would enjoy the food and city of portland. Many waterfalls and rivers to check out also.

I would vote Washougal..

been going to washougal since 1984. like many have said its a great deal.its calmed down quite a bit now too so its nor rowdy ether. the last few years there haven't been as many people so you can virtually go and watch anywhere on the track and be able to see. the climate is always pretty good too. not like back east where its hot and humid. if you come early the PIR Thursday night deal is awesome to see. portland has anything you can possibly be looking for and is only 30 minutes away. tons of great things to see close to the track as well if you want to sight see.

Can't go wrong with Washougal in the summer time. Definately don't go to Seattle, but a trip to Portland and MtHood would be something you probably won't forget. So much awesome outdoorsy things going on in the summer.

You have to go back well over a decade or more to make that statement. I've been there when the NYS Troopers would drop tear gas but that was in 1981. It's a family oriented atmosphere and with some changes in recent years is an easy track to view and move around from one side of the facility to the other.

Hey everyone, im flying over from New Zealand to go to Washougal, we get into Portland on Friday and pick up the rental car (driving on the wrong side of the road is gonna be interesting) can anyone please give me some tips and ideas about what I should and shouldn't do. We really want to get some autographs if we can, our sons name is Roczen and he will be almost 1 when we get to the states, so would love a photo with some of the riders if possible. We are driving up the I5 to Canada on the next day, should be a heap of fun.

Dilla baby. The whole "boobs" thing isn't like it used to be. If you like to walk around then you will see some of the coolest sections of an MX track in the world. Not to mention the other side sucks.
