mechanics say makes it hard to work on bikes makes bikes run hotter becuse of less airflow and engine is encased in plastic and the riders legs still cover it and its not like a hood of a car on tv its still hard to see even zoomed in its covered by the rider
ok fair enough maybe louvers in them for cooling or what if the riders gear was in a team sponsors color with their logo big and plain and easy to read like the old Honda team gear from the 70's instead of looking like a blacklight poster from the same era ? if visible signage is what the problem is maybe the sponsors should look at the riders gear as a showcase more so than the bike or would the gear companys freak out your answers makes sense even though your run on sentences almost made me pass out lol

Why didn't Kawi extend a contract renewal to James Stewart in 2008 for 2009 and beyond?
I'm not GuyBro, but I'm pretty sure that one had to do with Kawi signing Monster as title sponsor. James is a Red Bull guy.

I agree with this and what TG said. Lenny has chilled out a lot and he is a 100% OG moto with a lot of knowledge. I miss the guy a lot. And besides I don't think he is any where near as bad as some of the posters we have had roll through here these past couple years. I mean not even close! We also have members here that have signed up under Gawd only knows how many accounts in the past and they keep coming back. At least with Len , he took his punishment like a man and stayed away. That right there should say something.

Why did Davi not ride the KTM?

How reliant is the sport on energy drink $$$?

How much $$$ can a devoted MX photog/video guy make per year?

I've heard rumors of some CA based teams considering moving their home base to Florida. Any truth to that rumor? Which team(s)?

Is KTM really gaining a significant portion of the market share on the Japanese manufacturers, or are we too near sighted?

Why aren't rider's allowed to do a victory lap? Why aren't the KTM kids allowed to jump doubles?

Has James Stewart's absence really been a significant factor to SX attendance this year?

Is there any connection between RV going to Europe and the FIM drug testing JS? /tinfoilhat

Who runs a recluse clutch? Is there traction control technology?

Is there a rivalry between MX Sports and Feld, or is a respected coexistence?

You and I know about Lenny at the "other" site years ago that is no more...and no matter how many times he was ousted, he'd find a way back in. All in all, no matter how he stirred shit up and how many time he totally crossed the line...things were pretty boring without him around. We were not internet buddies...and I'm sure that he didn't like me much, but he knew more about motocross than most there, and I totally appreciated that. He was a fan of the sport...not just James Stewart.

Last I heard around here he was having health issues, and I really hope he's doing well. And, you're right...the fact that he's backed away and hasn't attempted to push his way back in deserves respect. I miss BL too.

MX is and will always be a niche sport, so I don't think we'll ever reach the top tier of sports for our purses to resemble something like Nascar.

Though, the big thing keeping riders from making an honest living given the current state of SX/MX is that they are not cooperative enough to ever work together to form an association/union to represent all riders as one. The privateers are not big enough to be heard, and the upper echelon of riders don't want to bite the hands that feed them. The NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. all have players unions to collectively bargain as one. MX riders won't go down that road and therefore will continue to get whatever FIM/AMA/Feld/MX Sports gives them.
I keep hearing people talk about a riders union but the same people can never elaborate on how such a union would function. Are you saying that on top of all the other expenditures that a privateer has to pay that they should have to pay union dues even though there is a chance he may not even get to work that day ? Or by union ,are you saying the riders should protest to strong arm the promoter to give out more money?

I don't have the time or care to concern myself withspelling or punctuation. I know what I am talking about and not some armchair jockey knowitall weather you agree or not. mechanics hate the full body panels because if there is a mechanical issue at the start or in a race its onemore thing they have to fight with and even with lovers theyre still covered by the riders legs and when it comes to the gear, it is the gear companies that pony up the most money to the teams and riders. if you take off the thor or fox logo on their gear they'll be paid far less by them and so the outside sponsor better come with 2x more money. if you think the gearcompanies are going to give up their spot on the gearshows you dont understand the economics of the sport and since everyone on here is so smart and know everthing they run off the people who do know or keep those who do know laughing at you.

Ultimately it would result in union dues unless some rich individual wants to donate their time for the benefit of the riders. But the union dues could be paid for by strong arming the promoter to give out more money. When a big meeting is being held for supercross or the nationals, do the riders have a seat at the table? Or is it the promoter, broadcast corp., track owners and manufacturers/teams invite only? It is known that Fox paid Feld to broadcast this last SX season. What if a riders union representative was at the table during the contract negotiations and said "We will not line up unless X% of this TV money goes directly into the purses."

It would mean ALL riders, from the top factory stars to the slowest privateer, would have to come together and not race if push came to shove. Unfortunately, scenarios like the recent Mexico GP track debacle or Vegas SX where the lights went out show that riders don't want to stand together when push comes to shove.

How can Shorty run an air shock when there is nothing production about it? Its one-off correct?

how did I not know that? I thought 250 and 450 classes had to follow the production rule. Cool beans, thanks Guy.

I agree that it would be good to have the riders have a voice in the decision making process and i certainly agree they should be paid more for making the show. I feel like the slower guys could possibly lose any sponsorships they may be getting by saying that they won't line up and race , im sure some of the sponsors give money to some guys just to help out a close friend or for the love of the sport. Then another problem that may come up is the possibility of "scabs" saying they will race for what ever . It is a tricky situation for sure to get everyone on the same page.

We know that major sports get paid by major networks for the right to broadcast., financial success for all
involved, based on viewership/advertising $.

We know that Feld and mxsports pay to have the races broadcast, at least that in my understanding.

So, how much does it cost Feld for broadcasting? How much for mxsports? Is it simply marketing $ to
help grow the sport? What kind of viewership/ratings are required to turn the tide?

Is there any discussion about having a “major” race(s)? Maybe 2-4 rounds SX and/or MX where you bring in outside sponsors that provide a large pay out that might allow those that qualify a chance to make the season or next few races financially? Hopefully, complementing TV coverage to gain additional advertising $.

Sounds like you know everything except that you're a know it all. Maybe the riders need an agent who knows how to sell to big cooperation's. Could be a sweet niche for a slick talking moto-head ? "Show me the money"

yes in all these years theres never been a clever or smart agent who knows how to sel to big cooprerations which is why budlight bolted and blimpies failed and stiffed suzuki and shark stiffed plano and that bat company bailed and then there was the lawn equipment company on the ktm team that failed. seems a winning plain you keep pushing for it

I've been busy and didn't get in line, so I'll just throw some hail Marys and hope someone catches. Some of these are for GuyB, some are open to anyone.

1: Who or whom was Tarbash, and why did he go away? He was Egyptian, most of us know the difference between Egyptian and Al Qaeda.

2: What percentage of people here think your name is Guy?

3: What was the significance of 85 chances, I would have stopped at about 3.

4: Who was willing to do almost anything to get a Cannondale when they first started talking about them?

4b: Who was unfortunate to succeed.

5: Torrance days, Windy or Yvette?

6: How many thousands of hours have I wasted on MX message boards since 1995, and I'm pretty part time, some of you have spent exponentially more.

7: Where's the pink slip to my 69 Z50?

Post a reply to: What's your "shrouded in secrecy" question?
