I think he's gonna have to take some time off to let that ankle heal this time and look forward to next year.

Not always true.

When I broke my fibula near my ankle, I first thought I just had a bad sprain because my boot got snagged in a rut down a fast straight. I sat around the track for an hour before I had my buddies load up my truck and I drove home. When I got home i was in some mild pain but tolerable so I sat down on the couch. It was weird, because about 30 minutes later I really started to feel the pain. At that point, I was thinking "OK, something has to be broken." Went to the hospital, sure enough clean break. Doc asked if I wanted something for the pain, "OF COURSE" i said. Nurse comes back a few minutes later with 2 huge needles full of pain killers. I'm terribly afraid of needles....said nope, don't want them even if you have to charge me for them, don't care. The look she gave me...ha! Thank god for the pain pills a few hours later.

Webb said in his interview at Vegas it was ligaments/high ankle sprain. I'm sure someone in here has had a high ankle sprain before, it feels fine until you catch it then it feels like you just broke your ankle or someone stabbed you there with a knife, 10 minutes later you're walking around on it like nothing happen. it takes a loooong time to heal properly if you don't take about a month off and then it still suspect if you dab it wrong. some doctors will even tell you that you would have been better off breaking it because then you have to take time to let it heal whereas with the sprain it startes to feel fine then whamo

my guess is he did just that. a quick dab and thought he broke it. hopefully we will get some for sure news soon though

You numb nut....a broken bone is synonymous with a fractured bone. That's like saying I doubt Webb could win a supercross race, most likely he can win 3 supercross races.

The one person that posts here that likely knows 100% what happened with Cooper... Cheerful I don't know how you manage to refrain and keep tight lipped, but you guys do a good job of it!

Im no doctor or pro motocrosser but i had that injury last summer and it was a bitch to heal. They pretty much told me i would have healed much faster if i just broke it.

The fibula is a little different. It's a non weight bearing bone so its a little different than a tIbia fracture. I think that other guy was referring to a combined tib and fib break not one or the other

Can we finally get this straight?
A fracture IS a break, and a break IS a fracture.
There are displaced fractures, and non - displaced fractures.
There are fractures which require an open reduction, and those which don't.
And no, I have no medical training. I have, however, had many bone fractures.

I don't think he sprained it. Probably just a lot of bad bruising and torn ligaments and muscles. Huh

A break is a fracture and a fracture is a break. Interpret it any way you want to any degree, but any separation of bone is considered both.

Regular folk like us use terms like broken bone, bone break, ect. Most Doctors do not use the term broke, broken or break. Doctors refer to any bone trama of any degree as a fracture, compound or hairline.

So for the numbnuts saying, "dude, it's not a broken, it's fractured" you're the one that's the numb nut.

dean 122, I think numbnuts you were referring to was joking.

I once broke my fibula and thought I had a sprain. I went 2 days with a limp and my Mom talked me in to getting it x-rayed. It really didn't hurt that bad. I couldn't believe it when they told me it was broken. It needed to be set and they set it without any pain meds at all. Doc just gave it a good yank and a twist, got some new x-rays and did it one more time. It healed fast but there was a tightness from the muscle strain and getting used to the new placement of the bone that didn't work out for about a year.

I was thinking the same thing earlier today. I know it's part of the sport (I just had surgery from a crash) but it's really unfortunate for those racers and for the series. There is so much talent on the sidelines that it's so frustrating for all.

Like gharmon said. Fibula is a non weight bearing bone. Back in the old days, a fibula fracture could be fixed between motos. Simple procedure actually - make a small incision above the break point, grab the bone with some (sanitized) vise grips, twist it 45 degrees each way (think chicken wings), and pull the bone out through the original incision. Sometimes closing requires stitches, but usually superglue and a band aid will suffice.

If it's only a fracture then duck tape will work....if it's a break were going to need some popsicle sticks and duck tape....and a cup check Cool

Webb arrgravated the same ligaments in his ankle that he tore in Vegas. He is waiting until tomorrow to make a decision. I think he will end up sitting this round out.

Doc,
I'm confident I've worked on more tib, fibs and femurs than you have.

I do however stand corrected -BUT it's great a Butcher and a Medical Doctor can agree; a broken bone is also synonymous with displacement and a fracture is also synonymous with a crack.Whistling
