So its been awhile, new super stressful job....anyway. Here it goes....

My son Joey can use some help between Hangtown and Glen Helen. All winter we had a ride with a "team", Joey was able to train at GPF thanks to Terri and Josh Woods. Came home in late April to broken promises and a "supposed" friend who weaseled his way in and left Joey out on his own.

He's more determined than ever, crated his race bike up on Monday ( this is the first year we have had both a race bike and practice bike thanks to MGX Unlimited) and sent it to a carpet dealer in Rancho Cordova. With the help of Team Gus he's getting it to the track. He's not old enough to rent a car and has no idea how he's getting around, but he left today. His dad bought a last minute ticket yesterday and is going out for this weekend but has to be back for work on Monday.

I'm hoping once he gets to Hangtown he can hook up with someone, but if not is there anyone here that could maybe help him out with getting around, or hopefully just being his mechanic at Glen Helen?

Yea I know its a tough sport, but watching him ride since he's been home its nothing short of amazing, his confidence is 1000% and giving it one more shot..
.
I'm really hoping no help would be needed but it never hurts to ask.

Thanks Guys!!

If I was in Cali I would help for sure. ( I know that doesn't help any)

Gook luck to Joey, I hope he has a great season.

Let me know if he needs help at Lakewood.

Lots on here are local to the area. Slipdog and a few others live right there.

Surely someone Probably has some connections locally to help the kid out. All the works connection peeps are local there as well.

Since he's going the same place most are anyway. Without a DL or being able to rent a car yet makes it rough.

I would suggest heading over to ProRide.com and making the request there. It's a So-Cal based forum with some very well connected members.

Have him go to Team Gus and ask for TJ. Let them know that I sent you over there. TJ is the best wrench they have available and I am pretty sure he is not working for anyone this weekend.

Thanks, Joeys dad will be there this weekend to be his mechanic and they will also be under the Team Gus tent. Who does TJ normally wrench for?

Call me crazy, but this seems like it could have the makings of a cool mini video series. Kind of like what Derek Anderson was doing when he raced. I think it would be cool to watch weekly videos about a privateer basically just flying by the seat of his pants and making it happen. Might be able to get some sponsors on board with it. And I bet you would get massive viewer numbers if he spent the week with hillbilly and had him wrench for him. Anyone else think this would be cool?

Yes!

I raced a bunch of roadrace nationals in the early 1990's and I wish I had documented some of the trials and tribulations of going at it on a shoe string budget. Hopefully Joey is doing that, even if it's just for himself to watch years later. Good idea Vaughn!

If you wanted to get here early or stay I'd tear his stuff apart and grease all the pivot points.

Feel free to. He has a free place to sleep 45 minutes from the track if he needs it.

I can help him out, I live 15 minutes from Hangtown and I'll be going to Glenn Helen to ride the 2-stroke exhibition race. I assume his bike is at Jeff's place. My shop was in his building before I went to work for MDK, I's maybe 10 minutes from me. Slipdog@sbcglobal.net

You said he was too young to rent a car but does he have a Driver's licence? reason I ask is if he does, I have a car I can loan him if need be here in Colorado. (My insurance covers anyone with a valid driver's licence)

Or like G54 said I can help him out anyway I can

Mom , I am more than willing to try and help Joey at Washougal this year if I can. If he needs a place to stay , I Have a very small place but would be more than willing to give him a place to stay. I'm not much of a mechanic , but can do the basic stuff. If I can do anything to help out , just shoot me a PM and I'll do what I can. Good luck to you guys mom!

I can help during GH week. I live 25 minutes from GH, I'm racing amatuer day Friday, and he can wash his bikes and work at my house during the week if he likes. I can wrench Saturday too if need be. Spent 4 years tuning for different riders as well, so I know the program. Send me an email at chuckmccarty@hotmail.com and I'll give you the rest of my contact info if that works for you.

He wrenched for Tapia for about half of the SX series and Ronnie Stewart in Santa Clara.

My wife and I live in Corona about 20 minutes from GH. I'm a retired aerospace engineer and have raced/tuned/wrenched since the early 70s. It's just my wife and myself and I have plenty of time to help your son down here in Socal. He can stay at our home (assuming he's good with a couple of old annoying dachshunds) and of course visit any number of practice tracks in the area. I'm pretty responsible and held Top Secret DOD clearance for over 30 years (you gotta live a squeaky clean life for that) . If the DOD can trust me so can you. If interested, just clue me in with the logistics and we'll see if we can work something out. My contact email is mscperformance@yahoo.com.
