i'm guessing the ET only passed RD when he started slowing down right at the end of the race (as most guys tend to do on the last lap) -

i didn't see anything wrong
ET passed when Dungey let him by. End of story.

I'm not sure Tomac in any way hindered RD from doing what he was doing, although maybe Ryan letting him pass was either a sign of him being annoyed with him, or his letting him uncap himself out of mutual respect. Probably the latter. If the AMA wanted to split hairs, maybe a blue flag should have come out, but really no big deal. That's the first time I can remember seeing a rider unlap himself though.

I would like to have seen a huge #3 nac-nac after he got his lap back.

Damn right you try to unlap yourself. The blue flag indicates you need to move over for a faster rider who is lapping you. If you are the one going faster, get on it and go past.

When Mookie was staying in front of Webb in San Diego the officials were waving the Blue Flag at him like they were ready to take out the Black Flag if he didn't pull off the track. Mookie had the speed to stay in front of him and not interfere at all.

Why was this different?
That was wrong if they were going to pull the black flag.

Okay so let me get this straight...

There are people with the mindset that a person should slow down during a race because why again...? Not get out of the way but slow down...... PLEASE explain... anyone please explain.

GET OUT OF THE WAY... YES. SLOW DOWN.... HELL NO. FOLKS, IT"S A RACE. They're lucky they get blue flags. . and Peter pan and Santa Claus are real...

I think it's different because it's Tomac and we know Tomac is one of the top guys and just as fast as Dungey. Showed he could hang with him no problem.

The part that bothered me is I was worried for Dungey because if anything it was a nuisance and hurting his concentration but I don't know what else Tomac could really do.

Also, I think the blue flag is for slower riders not lapped riders-so big difference. Usually slow means lapped but not in the case with Tomac.

This has happened before with RV and JS at Daytona. James was about 5 seconds in front of RV the whole race. I even remember Alessi pulling over for James thinking he was lapping him when he was really passing him. I have no problem with James or Tomac doing this. In both cases they had the same speed as the leader but where just a lap down. In both cases them riding in their position had NO effect on the leader.

I think this bothers some of you way more than it bothered Dungey.

4.15 Flags and Lights
a. Solid Blue Flag :
1. Indicates you are about to be overtaken by faster riders.
2. When conditions allow, move out of the fast line.
3. Hold your line (don’t ride erratically) and do not impede the
faster riders progress.
4. Riders disregarding the blue flag may be black-flagged at
the discretion of Race Director.

Hell yes Eli was messing with his concentration. Being 6 seconds in the lead and having a guy right behind you. However i dont see anything wrong with that on Eli's part, its just the way the race played out. Im sure Tomac was showing Dungey that he could hang on that track last night and Dungey was lucky not to be battling for the win.

Also, did Dungey pass Tomac and they got close or did Eli catch him?

I think it would've been funny if Dungey let him by earlier... They would have to keep giving Tomac the blue flag anytime Dungey let him by. lol

The only thing that might have bothered Dungey about this is that Tomac got "free" riding tips the whole time he was following Dungey. So Dungey may have changed up some of what he would normally do. It's a lot easier to study a guy when you're not racing for position.

Dumb move on Tomacs part. There is a race going on and guess what, your not in it.
So the only ones racing are the ones racing for the lead? What a stupid comment. Guys unlap themselves all the time outdoors, how is this any different? He wasn't mixing it up with him, he was just following him until RD slowed and let him by. I doubt it bothered him nearly as much as it bothered some of you.

Dungey should have turned it up a bit and let Tomac ride over his head trying to keep up until he put it on the ground.

From the seats in Indy, RD was protecting an enormous lead and ET was faster late. RD seemed to leave space to let ET by but Tomac seemed to choose to stay behind. Finally RD doubled the triple forcing ET to make the pass.

It was a brilliant move by Tomac. He let Dungey pass him and chased him . He was able to pass riders quicker do "lapper flag" for Dungey. He passes Dungey on the last when Dunge slows down to get one lap more to make more passes. It was brilliant and he broke NO rules.

Nothing was wrong with what Tomac did. That is what you should do in any case if you have had a bad race. Baggett was doing it with Canard as well.

Basically that says Dungey should give up the fast line since Tomac was faster at the time.
3/15/2015 10:53am
Tomac isn't going to get a blue flag while he's behind another rider. There is no flag for " You're faster than the first place rider but hold your position because you're a lap down". I think there should be a flag for people who wake up in the morning looking for something to bitch about. I would make it the pink flag.

I thought it was a brilliant move by ET3!!! Marshalls blue flagging the lappers to get out of the way for RD5...they slow down to let Dunge pass and Tomac passes them as wellLaughing

I see no harm in it, but I can see where the Dunge might get bothered by it. If you are out front crushing would you really want unneeded pressure from behind? Having someone close makes you want to push, which can lead to mistakes.

Seriously. He ran behind and when dungey let up the last lap cuz the race was in the bag, then he went by. No issue. No problem. We are all now dumber for having discussed this.

The difference is that Goerke was not on Stewart's wheel for half the race.

If you've never seen a rider get his lap back on the last lap when the leader slows, you need to watch more motocross.
3/15/2015 11:21am
Ping was on pulpmx not long ago talking about how easy it is to gain positions in that situation. If you got the speed why not? It's not like he was showing him a wheel or something and this isn't the first time it's happened. I'm sure dungey would do the same if he had to.

That's not what your post said though, your post said "Show me one instance where a rider gets his lap back outdoors" and I did, and now you bring out the excuse book. You were wrong trying to prove someone else wrong. Don't matter how long Goerke was following Stew for, he got his lap back.

Eli realized he wasn't 't going to get the lucky dog pass like the nascar boys that are a lap down get, so he took matters into his own hands. Silly
