Thats why I like to deal with the smaller bike dealers. These big stores are just trying to get as many bikes out the door as possible. They do not care about customer service or people coming back to buy bikes again. They figure they will always have new traffic coming in since they are in a big area.

Always bought and will continue to buy bikes from Aiken Motorcyles sales in Aiken Sc. Best around IMO.

In many places the BBB does not have any teeth. All they can do is label the offending business as scam artists w/o more. Scam businesses just let this slide off them.

A better course would to, in addition to the BBB complaint, send a professionally sounding letter that avoids shrill or abusive language and tone to the consumer fraud/protection departments of the county and state prosecuting agencies.

Send the same letter to the state dealer licensing authority.

Finally, send the same letter with some modification to Kawasaki saying how you love the brand, but these folks are giving the big K a bad name by their abusive practices.

All three of these entities have some real teeth.
Yeah thanks for the info..

I did send a letter to the local Fox News station so we will see if anything comes of that..

I think they are arrogant enough to not even care that I called them out of their scam while at the store yesterday.

I went outside to the parking lot and called the Lawrenceville store and asked if they had any 14's and was told yes. They guy asked when did I want to purchase one and I said "Right now, I will drive there this minute to get it" He said, yeah come on! I said don't you need to make sure you have one in stock before I drive down there and he took my name and number and said he would call me right back..... still waiting on that call....

I am sure when he called Marietta to see if there were any bikes there, they probably asked who was asking...

I have had bad experiences with that dealership. They advertise a great price, then add incredible fees. I did get 1 good deal there a few years ago, but that was only because I raised a stink. I did the same thing you did, called about a good advertised price, talked to the salesman and made a deal. The only difference is I asked for a quote showing all fees and an oTD price, and I put down a deposit. He did tell me I didn't have to, but I insisted. I also asked for the VIN so I could check my credit union for a loan. Drove 2 1/2 hours to the store, and they told me the guy I had talked to wasn't there but they would help me. The bike was supposed to be ready but it was still in the crate. Then they said that my salesman had made a mistake and the real price would be close to $1000 more. I had a printout of their quote in my hand showing the complete cost breakdown, my deposit amount, and the remaining balance. We sat around for another 45 minutes before they finally came back and said the boss had approved the sale, but the salesman that gave me the quote was in deep sh*t and the $1000 was coming out of his paycheck, as if it was my fault. We then sat there another 1 1/2 hours while they did the "$800 prep" on the bike (put on front wheel and handlebars). I have bought 3 bikes since then and don't even bother calling them no matter what price they advertise.

I would have insisted them loading it up in the crate and I'd take it home and save the $800. . . I am not a sales rep but I dealt with probably a dozen different sales reps a day in a previous position (non motorcycle related). They would say ANYTHING to get their way. I refused to talk to one sales rep and told him to speak with his manager. If the manager disagreed, I'd talk to the manager. He called back saying he was the manager. . .

Glad you pulled one over on those idiots at this stealership. . .

I agree with Brad 460. I think we need to all give them a call asking for the same deal and lead them on. . . Waste their time.
I tried to get it in a creat but was told they "legally" cannot sell it to me that way..

We typically are in no position to buy new bikes all the time. There are kids out here who get several bikes a year and its not even their birthday. Lane has never had a new bike, been riding old bikes for years and this year, he stands a real shot at making it to the show.

So this year, I am trying my best to support him in his dream in obtaining a bib, not that I have not done so before this year, we are just not holding anything back.

He will probably be riding this bike for many years to come! Also, if he is unable to make it this year, then we will be scaling back and going away from the Nationals thing. He will have to move up after this season so why not go all in at least once in his race career.. ya know?

Lane is the kid who pulls up in a toyota truck with his one (6 year old) bike, throws a tent on the ground to sleep in and goes out and gives it 100% every time. Just look for us between the motorhomes...

Set Up fees. I know a lot of dealers charge them. Manufacturers have said more than once, "We do not sell kit motorcycles, we sell complete bikes. The dealers are usually given a parts credit or similar to assemble the bikes".

I don't know if it has changed since I had my dealership, but you absolutely cannot sell a bike in the crate, per dealer agreement.

There you go "It is against the law in Georgia to advertise something attractive - the bait - and then substitute it for something much more costly - the switch." http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/story/27345726/bait-and-switch-has-car-cust…
I just went on the Mountain Motorsports website and they had heaps of 2014 KX250f's for sale. These fuckers are running a con. Book em Danno!!

I have bought many bikes over the years in crates lol. A few were inthe states and a few in Canada, didn 't think it was illegal though.
I always enjoyed tearing them out of the crate and assembling them and saved a few bucks to lol

Like others have said thats an old get them in the door trick, i'm lucky i have some real good dealers in my area that have motocross ties

"Set up fees and other charges" are usually just a way to generate EDM: Inflated "doc fees", non-existent "warranty charges", and inflated "set up fees."

I went to purchase an Accord new some years ago and asked for an explanation of the add ons. Shocking: doc fees of $500, dealer prep fee of $400, floor mats for $500, and (my favorite) the "desert protection package", which the dealers call spray on mop and glow, for "only" $750.

I walked.

Do you know what the logic was behind that? I figured if someone wanted to avoid the "assembly fee" they'd be willing to take responsibility for anything they assembled incorrectly. A simple waiver. And additionally, there isn't a warranty on race bikes anyways so what are the manufacturers worried about?

I have only bought one new bike but when I get a new (to me) bike, I like to strip it down, and make sure everything is properly lubed. It's always inconsistent from dealer to dealer and you never know about a used bike.

I would tell them to eff off. Obviously they only want to make things right because they saw this. If this thread proves anything, it's that this isn't the first time they have done this, and won't be the last.

It serves you right for trying to bike a bike for nothing, no dealer out there needs you and your type of business, like he said, go buy it somewhere else, because they were making zero money. Fuckin dirt bike buyers crack me up, they want everyone to work for free for them and then don't wana pay for it. Classic line, I have bought 10 bikes from you and you should take care of me, oh wait I lost money 10 times on your sorry ass and now you want me to loss more, hit the road jack.

It is not illegal for you to purchase, or for them to sell, a bike in a crate. You have done nothing wrong. It is pretty specific in the dealer agreement that the dealer cannot deliver a unit in the crate (so not illegal, just against dealer agreement).

The reason being, and think street bike not dirt bike here, is that if I (dealer) just let you have a bike in the crate and you assemble it incorrectly and you are injured or killed, the dealer as well as the manufacturer is exposed.

Are you going to do it? I'd suggest having them agree to throw in a free helmet or gear or something else since they already wasted so much of your time. 0% interest for however long would be a good alternative. If they're able to get 14's why would they let you leave the store in the first place.

These doc and prep fees are purely subjective. The only cost in Oklahoma is a $10 lien entry fee (if you finance) and a $3.50 county tax stamp. Of course shipping and assembly have a cost, but these inflated doc and prep fees are to recoup profit that the dealership lost in advertising the bike so low.

just read this from a link to reviews about them:

What a Saturday this was! I woke up to my husband wanting to go buy a 2015 4 seater razor for our family!! After calling around to surrounding states and different motorsports dealers for about and hour or so we received a return phone call from Mountain Motorsports saying that he could sell us the atv for the same price as a dealer in TN. We were so excited and felt better about being able to buy local. We get ready, get our 1 year old packed and ready to go, invite our friends to come along, pick them up, and head to lawrenceville to get our new razor!! It takes a little under two hours to make all of our stops from our home to Mountain Motorsports. We even skipped lunch because we couldn't wait to get it loaded up and headed home..
Once we arrived, we waited around for a while just chatting with the salesman....then we realized that we were just another victim of the old "BAIT & SWITCH" SCAM!! The price we were quoted over the phone had went up THREE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!! The excuse we received was that the salesman was simply CONFUSED? We left furious and feeling like fools!! What a sorry way to do business!!!!

Exactly what I figured. I think set-up/prep fees should be limited to the hourly rate of the shop. If the shop gets $70/hr labor, and setting up a bike/atv/UTV takes 2 hours, set-up should be $140. Not $800.

EDIT: And also, tell Trey thanks for taking the time to take a pic with my step-son at his first supercross in Atlanta. I know those guys have a hectic day on race day, but it was much appreciated. He was REALLY excited!

Absolutely. My son is about to turn 17, he'll be graduating and heading off to college in a little over a year. If you have kids, you know there aren't many instances when a teenager wants to hang out with their parents (especially on the weekends). My friends and I have been riding with our sons since they were 5, and they (the boys) will tell you that its just not the same at the track without the old guys there. My son's bike is over 10-years-old, but its been well-kept. This Spring, I'm going to upgrade for him. I might not be able to afford a brand new bike, but I can surely do better than the 04' CRF250 he riding now. It'll be worth every penny.

All of you jackholes not wanting to pay a fair price, I just read were someone called Tennessee for a price, thank god I left the business, and this is why the good people in the business found new careers. All you guys care about is your self and you saving money instead of just being fair and getting a good deal, but letting the dealership make some money. It is an anti western civilization thought to want people to lose money, try doing business with the east, it is everyday common place that they will only do business with you if you are losing money. American is better than that, but the members of this board are acting like they are from somewhere in the eastern hemisphere. Is that pc enough for everyone?

I never argued the price, I asked for the price, they told me the price, I came to buy the bike at that price.

You think your funny trying to start $hit on here but really, you showed your hand to early and only revealed your a dumb ass in one post. Fish much?

Huh? It is business. I want to buy something, you want to sell something. I want to buy low, you want to sell high. If we can agree on a price we can both live with, the deal is done and everyone walks away happy. The problem starts when one of the parties involved does not deal in good faith. In this case the dealer was dishonest, just trying to get the guy into the store and make him pay more than agreed upon. He wasn't looking for a freebie. The dealer advertised a price, he called and made a deal at that price, and the dealer didn't keep their side of the deal.

If a store advertised a box of dicks for only 19.99 you would obviously be excited, but when you picked them up and had to sell you dick insurance for another 100 bucks, you wouldn't be happy anymore would you?
