She looked in over her head out there. She could flow through the 2 rhythms after the finish pretty well but she was obviously intimidated by the triples. She only did them a couple of times. That wasn't her biggest problem though, her biggest problem was the whoops section. She straight up couldn't do them and she was either intimidated by those or something because she went around them 90% of the time.

I went on track walk and she gets respect from me for riding that track as well as she did. Some of those jumps were gnarly. But watching her and a few of the guys out there it was obvious they weren't ready and didn't belong out there. In my opinion if you are skipping sections of the track repeatedly during timed qualifying then you shouldn't be out there. Because if you can't consistently do the entire track every lap you will be a danger to other riders in the night show.

She would not make a main event but yes she would have a good shot at making a night show, it's not quiet the top 80 lites riders once you split coasts and throw in Arenacross etc, defiantly can ride whoops pretty fast and would have a good shot by the last couple rounds. Would she have made last nights,no.
Ya whoops seems to be the thing.

Looking forward to GPs this year, Meg is gonna get it!

She has to find some more speed, but gotta give her a thumbs up for trying. How many people on here have made the night program at a Supercross? Hope she can do it some day. More press for our sport is always good.

I always notice a difference between men and women riding dirtbikes. Males for the most part able to muscle the bike around to wherever they need it to go. Females, while they might be fast, never look like they can attack a track with the same sort of aggression. Its not a skill thing, its just males and females are built differently.

Did I type this to be "sexist?" No. Will I be called sexist? Yep.

If you don't want women racing against the men... Give the women a series worth racing. Give them a way to pursue their careers in the same way the guys do. Nurture the women's side of motocross and you will get faster women. But ignoring an entire side of the industry until one comes into the guy's playing field is just sad.

Men and women are built differently. And there is no way that a female could possibly have the same muscle tone a man does. So how about appreciating her for what she is and what she has accomplished as a woman and stop comparing her to something she isn't. She rides like a girl because she is one. It's not an insult, it's a compliment.

I, along with many other women in this sport, are rooting for her. Mothers, daughters, sisters, wives... They ride too. And to be quite honest, if that was your daughter, or sister, or wife out there, I bet that you wouldn't be saying some of the things you are. I am so excited that Vicki has opened the doors for women to come. Young riders like Hannah Hodges, Jordan Jarvis, Anna George, etc now have something huge to race for. And since the industry isn't going to make something worth while for the women anytime soon... The women are just going to have to make it worth while for themselves. And apparently ticking off all the couch riders is a good place to start. The more people talk... the more attention women's motocross gets. Smile

Yea its a good idea but who's going to pay for it and who's going to pay money to watch it? If we look at WMX i think we will find the answers.

If MX Sports and AMA spent ANY money on actually marketing and campaigning for the women.... They may be impressed. But the women themselves are basically funding the races for WMX. First place gets $200. It's a joke. Especially when we are racing on the same bikes at the same tracks. Spending the same amount of money. It's not worth it. Companies aren't going to put money into something that even the industry ignores.

When you can run anywhere near the same pace as the men, or hell the local A class 15 year olds, then maybe there will be proper funding and marketing.

And when people stop expecting male results from females maybe we will all have a clearer understanding. You don't see female soccer players playing with male soccer players on the pro level. Not in golf. Not in basketball. Not in ANY other sport. Yet for some reason, in the most physically demanding sport there is... Women are actually expected to be riding at the same pace as the men. The fact that Vicki Golden, Mackenzie Tricker, Ashely Fiolek and many others are as fast as they are is impressive. Which is why they are pro riders. But you don't even see many MEN racing at the speed of James Stewart, Reed, Roczen, etc. So how people expect this from women is beyond comprehension.

Nobody is expecting that out of women. It's impossible. It's just unfortunately a bad investment for companies to spend money on a sport that nobody wants to pay money to watch. Sad but true.

No one expects you to be that fast, which is why they made the WMX series. It just so happens that it is really boring to watch. I'd say the top 5 girls maybe are somewhat interesting to watch, the rest look like they belong in the C class. Why would anyone dump millions into advertising, teams, and TV deals into an amateur fest that no one wants to watch?

Surprised at what? If I wanted to watch that kind of riding I would go to my local amateur race. It's great that you love racing and the sport but there is a reason the series is the way it is. Unless the girls get faster you're not going to get the same coverage or funding as the men. Same as with any sport. The only reason the WMX series was created was so the girls could play too. If you had a dick between your legs and rode at the level of the "professional" women and wanted the same coverage and support as Stewart, Dungey, and RV you would get laughed at. Just because you're a girl doesn't mean you get special treatment.

Vicki is going to be in Daytona for the SX. It will be interesting if she hangs around and races the WMX race on Sunday and Monday.

Actually why is she not racing any WMX events? Has she in the past? I did not see her name in the point standings. You would think that would have been where she would have started.

I think she would make the night show,

Looking back at some results, in 2012 in the under 19's main event at Phillip Island her best time in the main event was only four second behind race winners (Hayden Mellross) and Six seconds off Chad Reeds lap time on a 35 second track.

90% sure that was the weekend she had a big crash in practice and was just about not allowed to race, but got a clearance after a bit of back and fourth.

http://www.computime.com.au/meetings/2012/SX2/SX12_2_R20_RES.HTML

Round 1 at Dubbo she was 6 seconds a lap off Mellross, and just under 8 seconds off Jay Marmont on a 53 second lap by Marmont.

in 2013 in the Women's class she had a best lap time in the final race of three of 51.4 seconds. On the same track same afternoon, Josh Hill won the main with a 45.6, just ahead of Matt Moss with a 45.8, So just six seconds off the pace on a 45-46 sec track.

Personally think she could do it if that was her focus. Also pretty confident that Vicki Golden will do it soon.

Just need the Chick who raced Dakar this year to take up Supercross, who would have ever though a Female could pull a top ten overall at Dakar including a 5th place stage finish! Dakar is gnarly

What part about Vicki Golden herself choosing to race against the boys don't you comprehend? You're making this to be sex based when in reality she chose to be judged against her competition, a field full of guys. And calling out for a Supercross series for the girls when there is no market whatsoever is foolish. Hell the motocross one all but died out.

Just because you love something(riding/racing) and are in a certain demographic(women) does not mean you are entitled to a series of your own, sorry that's just the way it is. Somebody has to fund the bill with an expected ROI, if it's not viable then you're out of luck.

I have respect for all the fast girls I've seen locally and professionally, but this to me was a bad showing of what her true talent looks like in the right environment. She was third to last and on video it did not look good at all. As long as her own personal achievements are satisfied that's awesome. I don't think there is any physical sport where it's an even playing field when it comes to the guys vs. the girls professionally. She knew what her capabilities were well before she set foot on that track, she's no stranger to Supercross tracks I'm pretty sure.

All the best to her.

I'm not going to bag on her. I never had the guts to go for it on a SX track back in the Late 80's. She's at least out there, and with all the pressure put on her, I think she's handling it pretty well. Let things calm down a bit, let her get accustomed to the big tracks and get a bit more comfortable, then we'll she where she's at. I say she makes the night program before the season's out, but I think the main event is probably out of reach this year. Kudo's to her for trying.
I'd say that's all reasonable. She's giving it a shot. She's also bringing in tons of outside press that might not otherwise be attracted to the sport. It's not a bad thing.

I have coached her since she was 2 years of age Aarynn Minerds, yes I think she is the worlds best female rider and she might make a main as an sx series wears on but no way would she have made top 40 at rd1

Yeah maybe not round one, but I would put money on her making one, though it would not be easy.

Just looking at her best lap time compared to Taylor Potters in 2013, about 4-5 second difference. The guy who qualified 40th on Saturday night was only just over 2 second behind Taylor who qualified 26th.

Vicki is a solid jumper and has good technique, but she lacks the intensity to qualify. From the fans perspective, you see her jump everything and assume she's "right there", but she lacks the same corner speed and aggression from the guys. One of my buddies didn't qualify for the night program and I know how fast he can ride a dirt bike, I know Vicki Golden's speed since I had to race against her growing up, and I don't know if she'll make a night show based on the speed she's showing right now. I think she has the potential to do so, but rookie seasons have proved to be tough for almost everyone, especially as a privateer. If anything, I think she'll qualify for a night show next year, but I don't know if I see it happening this year.

AMA is not just loretta's or world mini, we now have kids win that stuff but AMA mains are a different level, even Seely is 26 years old and missed mains on a regular basis at 22yrs.

My wife watches the races with me. When I told her a female tried to qualify she couldnt believe it and was very interested in the race after that. I see no downside to this as long as she doesnt cause a pileup. Man, imagine how fucking gnarly itd be to ride a pro sx track. Ive got nothing but respect for her. Some of you guys are dicks lol.

"never look like they can attack a track with the same sort of aggression" - Sorry just not true. You need to get out and see more riders ,girls and boys.

At our club we've a girl who rides regularly against the men. If you did'nt know who she was you wouldn't guess her sex from her aggression and riding style. Weekend before last she finished third overall against 24 men on the toughest track we ride at , deep sand at Mepal. Two third places and a clear second in the last moto of the day. Oh and Ami does also compete in the odd womens grand prix too.

As to all the guys who are getting on Vickey's case or complaining about her coverage and "sexism" , just how fragile is your own sexual ego, if you feel threatened enough to put her down?

When Captain Matthew Web swam the English Channel in 1875, his big achievement was not the time taken or the money won but , rather, it was showing that it could be done, for others to emulate. So which ever woman finally achieves the night show will be a beacon for other to follow (and maybe better).

I was asked to fill in for a co-ed indoor soccer game, and there's no winning. They played 100%, but if you knock a girl down you're an ass.

Just think if Bowers punted Vicky off the track? This place would melt the hell down.

I have no problem otherwise.
a girl used to come down and box with us and my coach used to make me spar her cause he knew I'd pull my punches which was fine but obviously I was slower than normal... The problem was, she had really good form and would beat the shit out of me haha

If a golden retriever rides a bike and tries to qualify, it's going to bring press, so the "press" is an invalid argument.

I would prefer to keep this a somewhat of a professional sport, not a sideline freak show. She won't make a night or main all year. Not trying to be negative, just stating their are physical differences between men and women and she flat out lacks the intensity to qualify. I think it's foolish for our sport to put themselves in a position of "how hard can you race her" as well.
