Fox Suspension

Edited Date/Time 7/6/2017 12:41pm
Is fox mx suspension junk? It seems that I never see anyone (local or Pro) using it?

I know in mountain biking, they are regarded as probably the top company.

Anyone have any insight?

My oldest boy runs a fox podium shock on his yz85 and from what I see, it works better than the stock shock.

If it's a set of these forks you are talking about, I'll take them off your hands for a few bucks....Smile

I really liked my Fox shock on my RMZ450 and our Baja 1000 CRF450X. I don't think it's junk.

Due to politics the fox shock is not widely used in the pro ranks but a top manager told me it was the best suspension they ever tested. The best....

Put a podium shock on my 09 crf450 and it made a world of difference on how that bike handled over the stock one. I sold the bike then the shock for $250 now I have a '12 crf and I sure wish I had that shock back now.

I know some snocross guys up here get it for free because they are sponsored by fox on the snow side. It seems to work very well and they all have nothing but good things to say about it. But like any setup if you cant set it up its not going to work good for you!

There are only two teams left on the national sno x series that are not running Fox Shoxs. They are the best in the business.

I know they were incredible vs stock on my old Polaris snowmobile. I'd love to try a shock on my 450.

The shocks are pretty good on moto (not ground breaking by any means) but the fork cartridge kits are not worth the time of day to even try.

Probably the biggest hindrance to aftermarket shocks in the moto arena is the quality of the stock components, which is very high. KYB, Showa and WP build incredibly nice components for OEM application and revalving and springs can work wonders for most guys. The level of fit and finish of aftermarket stuff, Fox, Ohlins etc. is a step above to be sure, but setup is by far the biggest part of the equation. Now on mini's and entry level bikes, a real shock is going to be the way to go. In roadracing this is the norm as the OEM components are not to the same level as moto and ride height adjustment, which OEM generally doesn't touch, is a setup parameter which you really do need.

I was told recently that a 35 year old Fox mono shock is on par with today's shock technology, just what I was told.

I've noticed that every vehicle that I've tried that's been UPGRADED to FOX components works quite a bit nicer than the standard OEM stuff (KYB, Showa, Walker Evans, Marzocchi, Rockshox). However, every vehicle I tried that came from the factory with FOX stuff didn't work as well as the upgraded-to-FOX stuff. I don't know if/how the OEM FOX shocks are different internally, but I've been both blown away by how well FOX works, and disappointed that they didn't work better. Another point to consider is the fact that when someone upgrades, they generally go with the higher end of the componentry hierarchy, so that probably has something to do with my perception of the ride.

As some have stated, it's all about setup. There are people running FOX stuff that swear by it, but there are also people that pull the FOX shocks off as soon as they buy something.

Moral of the story is: don't buy someone's take-off OEM FOX equipment. Do it right, call FOX, and buy the right equipment for what you're looking for.

Nice Maverick, btw. We just got a couple more Turbos in and have one of the new FOX-edition RZR's on the way, so I'm anxious to try them side-by-side (no pun intended).

I have the Podium RC3 on my '13 KX450F. I had the stock shock revalved and liked it but after a while decided it was too soft and needed to be stiffened up. Rather than just dump another few hundred into it I decided to try out the Fox shock since they are reasonably close to me.

I am really happy with the Fox shock. They set me up with the correct spring rate, and the valving is pretty good right out of the box for a 40+ int mx'er. I really like the anti-bottoming control as it lets me set up the shock a touch softer than I might otherwise.

They can't be that bad. Ford puts their shocks on their flagship truck. They would have to know something about suspension in order to do that. What is the cost vs A Kit?

I just got the Fox silver kit suspension for my RM125. Got it set up for my son seeing as he's racing it now. So far it's awesome!! Love the Pro-tune clicker caps, so easy to use.

hmm, anybody running the Podium RC3? How do you like it?

I have ran the RC3 shock on one of my YZs. Loved it. I actually had two of them, but sold them when I got rid of the bike.

I know a guy who bought a Fox Shock for his '14 RMZ 450 and hated it. He sent it back 3X, but after the 3rd attempt, he sold it on Craigslist.

I have the Fox Shocks on my Turbo RZR and while they worked pretty good in stock form, I sent them out to Shock Therapy for a revalve and new springs and they work incredible. But it was $3000 for the upgraded...

I have Fox shocks on my Ford Raptor and they are a pile of shit. They have been the biggest pain in the ass, to the point I don't want a Raptor again
