I LIKE the column.....but they could make it a little smaller and possibly transparent? I like being able to see who is in what place ( all of them at the same time ! ) and the gap between them.........I dig the box!

Like I said though.....they could shrink it down a tad and make it transparent........I'd dig way better than that damn scrolling thing at the top!

First off let me just say that I hate the pylon. I'd really like to see the old ticker style come back. From what I've read it's due to the sponsors thing so it appears that it isn't going anywhere. IMO my issue isn't with the ads at the top, they're fine. It's with the running order under them. With that said there are a few things which could be done to make the running order less intrusive.

1. Make the running order smaller overall. You could leave the ads the same size but even if the running orders font size was just one or two points lower it would make a tremendous difference.

2. Move it all the way to the left. Even if some tv's aren't 1:1 it's only gonna cut off the number of the running order. You can tell the number just by the order.

3. Make the greyish color and the black of the background transparent or just slightly tinted so you can still see the action.

4. When the rider list isn't full don't show the empty slots at the bottom Let the picture come through.

5. Either inform the camera person to keep everything balanced to the right or have the original widescreen feed cropped between the bottom ticker and the side running order.

6. Use some sort of short hand for the riders names. It doesn't have to be three letters like some sports, but just less pylon width/ more live feed.

Now I do see where the idea of having the current running order on the screen fully at all times would be a good thing to have. However it needs to be executed properly. If this was executed properly I think there would be a lot less people upset or complaining about taking up real estate on their television. In order to do that there needs to be more electronic timing marks along the track besides how every many they are currently using. There is no point what so ever in having it there the entire time if it only gets updated once or twice a lap. Some sections of the track that wouldn't be possible but putting at least a couple more shouldn't be a problem and would probably change my opinion about this thing.

I feel sorry for anyone that has to watch this on a smaller size tv, which leads me to my next question. Does the live steam have the same gargantuan mistake that is the running order overlay that fox does?

P.S. I registered for this forum just to complain about this pylon lol. At one point Weimer's front end washed out and just about lowsided and everything was blocked by the pylon. I would have seen most of it if the bottom six positions on the running order weren't there, which were blank. Also, I copy and pasted this between the two threads on here.

I liked being able to glance over and instantly see what position a rider was running..... instead of waiting ... waiting ... waiting ... for the scroll to come around.

I believe all Vital proposals will be reviewed by top management and a prompt response will be issued.

I was split on my opinion. I hated how it took up so much real estate on the screen. It was distracting and ugly to say the least. I did however like being able to see where someone was without waiting for the ticker to scroll all the way through. I think the screenshot above is about perfect. Number and abbreviated last name is all I need. I don't need to know what brand, where they live and their favorite pets names craming up valuable screen space.

I watched on my laptop and wasn't bothered by the column at all. It's a big improvement in my opinion. Maybe it just seems too big...

Maybe it just seems too big if you watch on a huge tv?
This!

It's was really good to be able to follow what happens behind the top guys.

Pros and Conns:

Like the idea and real time riders place
Like that you can see when a rider gets passed or crashes even if its not in the camera view

Don't like how much of the screen it takes up. I feel like I am being robbed of what it is covering up.

I would rather see the race in full screen and maybe a small scrolling ticker.

I liked the column on the side...the MotoGP style would be an improvement though.

I loved being able to see where a rider was, without looking at the ticker...and being able to see passes that aren't on screen.

Keep it...just make it narrower.

Wow, you spent some time on that response. Vaild points and well thought out!

The new system worked well for me. I usually have several drinks during the racing, then get fixated on the scrolling order, at the old system, trying to find one of my riders....... then rewind the DVR to see the action I missed.

The new one I could glace at the rider of interest and back to the picture...

rewatch it and watch it when tomac goes down. 3 was in a freefall through the list...I thought that bar was awesome for knowing instantly why the crowd was going nuts and the booth had no idea what was going on. could they make it smaller? yeah...i think you will see tweaks. much better than the ticker IMO.

That would be much better. Maybe even add the riders number also.

The MotoGP scroll also reflects a rider's fall/rise through the ranks, although only at the start/finish line. I found myself trying to "look around" the SX stat poll, similar to when your head instinctively pulls back watching helmet-cam videos. Alas, I could not see behind that behemoth occupying the screen's port side.

So, no comments on Marquez' amazing 60 degree lean angle? I've hit 60 only twice...both while en route to a 90 degree lean angle.

It's on our left, so it's hard to see. But it's on the riders right, so it doesn't distract them. It's all about safety bro's.Tongue

Definitely room for refinement and improvements. But I think being able to see where the whole field sits at any time is awesome. I didn't realize how much the old ticker annoyed me until they changed it to this format. So now you just glance over and see where everyone is at at any time, as opposed to trying to watch the race and wait on that scroll

Plus with all of the new non-permanent numbers this season, it helped me keep them straight.

Love the idea about red or green arrows to show if a rider has moved up or down over the past lap too.

it needs to be smaller.
there was no need for the rider pictures during the race.

I thought it was nice, I just don't think it needs to be that bulky, and it should be shoved over to the side even more. It was too far inwards.

but as far as race info goes, it's 10 times better than a ticker.
I agree with this.......

Like setting behind the guy with the big foam cowboy hat at the stadium .

The MotoGP setup works, this does not.

Yes, except the column can't go get you a beer out of the fridge.

Has anyone noticed the gap reading between the riders has been totally inaccurate. One minute it reads the leader has a 5.3 second gap and next thing you know it say 2.0 second gap.

Yes last night Dungeys lead shrunk to 1 second for a while and I was like "are the guys in the booth not seeing this??? They were showing battles further back at the time. It seemed like ages. I though he must have crashed or something. Then it went back to somewhere around the real gap of 10 seconds or something like that. I hate the whole sidebar now. It was good at the start of the season.

Just rewatched it and it started jacking up with 8 laps to go. The producers were keeping an eye on it because everytime it read crazy they would turn it off. Been a couple times now that I thought Dungey must have crashed because the gap shrunk so fast.

Really wish they wouldn't alternate between the top ten, top fifteen, and top twenty.
