Have a coplete wood shop with everything from shapers, planers, joiners, routers, bandsaw, tablesaw. Made everything for my house, trim, crown, banisters, tables, etc. Love the sawdust.

Everything on my farm that wasn't here before me I built. Never taken a auto to a shop in my life,

My 1st vehicle was a 71 datsun truck, rebuilt the engine in my basement room at 14 ,rolled outside in a wheelbarrow and installed it with a boompole on the tractor.

If i cant do something i go learn how. Then buy the tools needed, my tool collection for all that is really unbelievable.

My dad and grandad are were land surveyors so logical I'd do that.
Sure is gettin hard to work on cars these days without investing in expensive fancy electronic diagnostic tools.

Worked in the Campus Network Wiring Infrastructure business for 20+ years. Most recently I made the decision to sell my house and move into the house that I grew up in to care for my ailing mother. I lost my dad 5 years ago and my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's a year ago. She is now into the advanced stages. I am not trained in the care of an Alzheimer's patient but I am doing what I can to keep her as grounded and as healthy as possible. It is extremely trying at times but on the same hand very sad for a son to see her mother loose the memories that molded her as a person.

My mission is to do everything in my power to keep her from having to go into a nursing home where most residents go and just sit around and wait to die. My mother deserves better than that and it is the least I can do for her. The future for her gets dimmer and dimmer as each day passes. It's a horrible disease to witness.

Thanks machine. Anything that you have heard is 100% correct. At this point she does not even know me as her son, (nor any of my 4 brothers) does not recognize items in the house as hers or her own house for that matter, says she is sleeping in a strangers bed and wearing that strangers clothes. It's rough but I know who she is to me and that is all that matters at the moment.

Besides a fishing guide and landlord we pick up and deliver tons of produce donated from groceries like Costco and Publix every week since we were kids and deliver it to the wildlife sanctuaries in the area. My wife's family has the buildings in Ding Darling Wildlife refuge named after them because of their history of originally pioneering Sanibel Island and their love of nature of the islands. So naturally we have donated our time over the years and our daughter is studying in that field. We get to keep the leftover produce for our giant tortoises and zoo we have as well as selling our offspring that was recently featured on AnimalBytesTV with our good friend and awesome guy RedBull rampage/x games/olympics tv host Kenan Harkin. Good times.

I forgot to mention a new sideline effort I started: Designing and installing hi powered long range wi fi networks. After successfully bringing hi speed wi fi down into our 3 acres I decided to leverage what I learned and offer my services to others who are down in gulches and valleys like we are with no way to get Internet. Where I live in upcountry Maui many people aren't serviced by TWC or Hawaiian Tel. Or in a lot of cases like us they are too far from a telephone pole so they are SOL unless they go with satellite but that is a metered service so it isn't practical for streaming applications.

We were extremely fortunate that a neighbor up on top of the ridge allowed us to have TWC install a 50 Mbps connection under her house. We also lucked out by getting the last available connection on TWC's junction box. From the TWC modem I connected to a router and access point that beams the signal about 1200 feet down to our old horse stall where the signal is received by a repeater. From there we plugged in another access point with an external outdoor omni directional antenna to distribute the wi fi to our seven users.

This sideline effort was basically an afterthought which came about after I heard a radio spot from Val the Phone Gal and a light went off in my head so I left her a message offering my services. Val installs phone systems plus does moves and adds as well as cleaning up customers cables and cords. Anyway Val called me back and said she had 8 or 9 prospects but first wanted me to earn my stripes on one prospect and I just completed their install before I left for Ohio on the 20th. It is a small retreat center right next to the water in some very rugged terrain. They are very pleased to have reliable connections now with better throughput so Rock the Wi Fi Guy will hopefully pick up some more business in 2015.

Rock of you run into a problem I am your man , I have set up airports to whole townships

I greatly appreciate the offer Jack. Question on related topic: why do you think WiMAX never took off? Also I am amazed at how much trees and plants block wi fi. I initially thought if I had enough gain the signal would blast through but no such luck. Company that makes the gear I use is Amped Wireless located in Chino Hills, CA and their tech support speaks English as their first language.
WiMAX is out there in secured settings a lot off bigger city's use it in house for there networks ,on the public side it was admin night mare who was responsible etc. tip one always get your source ISp at the highest point wireless falls overtime , if your having trouble penetrating go back to 2.4 or 900 MHz luxul is nice a little pricy but military grade and they are all American in tech support

Ongoing... not sure if it's lack of manpower or lack of lanes to use (pretty sure it's manpower) but there's a first class line and there's never (at least when I do not have pre-check) a first class security lane...it just funnels into the end of a regular lane and the wait is gnarly.

And I have no idea why they do this but pre-check seems to mean nothing anymore as they route the "regular" people into the pre-check lane all the time so you're again waiting and waiting..both "issues" should mean quick times through security but only to the ID check, then you're stuck waiting. I thought Pre-Check was supposed to be someone who was cleared to not have a bomb on them through a background check but LAS terminal 3 people get waved thru there regularly.

Can I just drop your name "I know JPT on Vital..." ?

It's just frustrating to see empty lanes that could serve the pre-check or first class lanes and no one seems to care about "regular" people being put thru a lane where you have less security.
Har, no dropping my name will be of no help I'm afraid. I sent you a message.

30 years in telecomm sales and after starting a company in 76 with two partners grew it to 47 employees and 15 million in sales only to have my partner (3rd partner left three years into it) give it away to Warren Avis 12/84 when Avis bought the company for book value. Moved to CA in 86 moved to the other side of the fence when I was recruited to work for one of the manufacturers we had represented. After 25 years of corporate BS I decided at 51 to pursue my passion and have repped a US manufacturer of muffler packing material for over six years. 2.5 years ago I moved to Maui and after mornings in the office managing my accounts I spend the afternoon M-F with a Downs Syndrome teenager and occasionally sub on the weekends for an autistic 9 year old boy. On the 17th of January I take on my biggest challenge when I start spending 6 hours on Saturdays with a pretty much non verbal aggressive 12 year old autistic boy. In my third year of special needs work and even though it can be extremely stressful at times I cherish the relationships I have built with my "students" and their families.
That is awesome Rock! My wife is a BCBA/Clinical Supervisor for Arizona Autism United. You guys do special work for sure.

Actually, a girl I grew up with is also in the field and lives in Maui. Has to be a very small community over there, do you happen to know Jen Buck?

Nothing close to Moto in my world of work. Very jealous of anyone who can make money in the moto world.

I hve a BS in Psychology and used it to provide various supports to people with Mental Illness and/or developmental disabilities for 10+ years. A little over 3 years focused on children and adults on the Autism spectrum. Somehow managed to come away from that work being the legal guardian for an adult with autism and severe developmental disabilities who didn't really have anyone else to watch out for him.

Switched gears in terms of working in the system after burning out a little bit and now I am a software analyst for utility company here in the Midwest. Mostly a crappy job being a cubicle jockey and dealing with f'd up office politics but the big software is fun to play with.

I am building Cloud software on the side and hope to have my first finished product on the market within the next 6 months and then I walk out of this cubicle for the last time and get back into riding.
God bless you.

You should have a talk with my idiot brother, he thinks the $25 min wage in Aus allows people that work at McDonalds to live like kings. Doesn't even acknowledge the cost of living is twice what it is here in the states

I was your cliche home schooled aspiring amateur racer. Needless to say, things didn't work out!

I decided to go back to school and ultimately graduated Summa Cum Laude from USC. I now work in investment banking (M&A / strategic corporate advisory). The hours are notoriously brutal, but I get paid really well - allows me to have a nice scooter and money in savings!

Thanks keyboard. Just doing what I think is right.
I feel for you trailhopper. My father passed (thank God) a little over three years ago and I still have an emotional reaction whenever my mind drifts back to seeing him a shell of the great man who raised me. My mom will be 83 next month and I pray she passes before she goes down the same path as my father.

I hate insurance companies, nursing homes and pretty much the medical profession.
