we must have raced each other on 80s.

my entry: Vince DeVane.

got caught banging Randy Yoho's (Dade City track owner) wife in a box van, banned from the place for probably 15 years..... or so the story goes.

Kenny yoho holeshot the first heat of the 99 Tampa SX. Art Eckman and David Bailey didn't know what was going on until about turn 3.

Anthony "Pokey" Poccarobba is another one from that era. Ricky Hampshire (RJs dad) wasn't too shabby either.
I started racing at dade city in 83 thru about 2008

I had moved away from the Pacific Northwest by the time Jimmy Anderson came on the scene. I only became aware of him after moving back in 2002, when Anderson started showing up at vintage races and destroying everybody locally and nationally in vintage racing.

Unbelievably talented - a bad man on a motorcycle.

Would love to know the rest of his story.

Scotty ended up being on of the best tig welders i've ever met and i'm a welder myself. He use to work for cline then did all the Nasa looking welds for BBR. Think He's building one off Alum tanks out of his house.

There use to be a guy with the last name of Oyster or something like that years ago at SIR that would hand Lance his ass.

The dude from Spanaway that won a 500cc national at washougal. Beleive his dad owns a ktm shop on Pac Highway.
You must be thinking of Eric Eaton. Can still haul the mail

I remember "Little Phil" at Hi-Side on his XR75s. His dad owned an automotive repair shop just up the hill from Cliff's Cycle Center in Gorst, Wa, where I pushed a broom.

Cliff and "Big Phil" had a helluva rivalry going with their kids and their minis.

Several years later, Phil (still little) shows up at Motocross West in Port Angeles...his dad helps him get on his dad's Maico AW400 and "Little Phil" proceeds to lay waste to the 500 Pro class. The kid couldn't even touch the ground.

NESC was one of the toughest series. Most of those guys ran 2-3 classes and killed it. Then came Doug Henry and even Chuck Norris took notice...
I started racing NESC on 80s when the pro class was super fun to watch (later 90s), those were good times! Lorusso, Barton, Scott Carter, Treadwell, Dowd, sometimes Henry, etc

That is an awesome story!! I used to worship the ground Phil walked on when I was a kid. Him and his little brother Mike would show up to woodland and do battle with guys like Eric Eaton , Scotty Tyler , Doug Lange , ect.....it was like a mini national there. I'd go over at talk to Phil and Mike ever chance I got back in those days. I still have one of Phils jersey's from 1985. #62 on a Kawasaki. He was such an animal on the bike too.

Buck Murphy

Buck was sponsored by the shop I pushed brooms in (Cliff's Cycle Center in Gorst, Wa. ) when I started there.

I would watch him at Hi-Side, or Puyallup knowing that every time there would be a "how did he do THAT?" moment.

Others had better luck, or worked harder on fitness, or were more serious, but no one in the PNW was faster in the early to mid 70s than Murphy.

I'm sitting here right now, shaking my head at how cool he was to watch. Still is actually.

I have heard that name many times , but never got to see him race. First race I ever attended was 1979 at Woodland MX. I was addicted to the sport since that day. Someone earler mentioned Jason McCormick and Grayson hart. I ride with both of them at a private practice track ever now and then. Jason only a few times , but I know him very well ( great dude for sure! ) and Grayson....I've ridden with him quite a few times over the past couple years. Another great dude.

I use to ride with him when he stayed in Socal on 83 & 84. I also remember a fast washington kid named Jim Anderson, I have a pic of him and I side by side.

Oh yeah Uptite....you know , i know Jimmy! I didn't mention him earlier in the group of guys because he was mainly riding the 125 class. Didn't see him to many times riding with Phil , Mike and the rest. Him and Eric Hall used to battle like crazy up here in the NW. Rode with Jimmy a couple times the year before last , and then I think he stepped off the bikes for a bit to take a break. He did really well at that Vet MXoN's race too. I think he swept all 4 of the +50 class motos. He can still go extremely fast!

One of these days I have to invest in a descent scanner. I have some really good Woodland and Washougal pics going back to 83-90 era. I have some of Larry Ward on his 83' DMC KX80's and super mini too! Wearing the red helmet , with th the two white stripes after coming back from the world mini's.

Not really a "Local Hero" but the second time I was riding a "real" track at Canyon Raceway in Phoenix AZ I was 15 years old on my 1987 CR125 and if there was a D class I would have still been lapped I was so slow. I was riding open practice and this guy comes flying out of nowhere yelling and screaming as he purposly knocked me over while he was shaking his fist at me as he went by... I thought to myself who the hell is this a** Hole with "Staten" on his jersey. I dusted myself off and only made 3 more corners when I hear him yelling and screaming again and sure as S**t he did the same thing again.... WTF????

I get back to the pits and I asked who is this jerk and the guy next to us said... he is some former pro named Rex Staten... now 26 years later I am proud of the fact I was knocked over by Rocket Rex Staten!!!!

RIcky Wetzel hauled ass in District 7 back in the day.
Gregg Duffy and Tony Archer are starting to pierce the national field right now.

Huh?
This probably needs translation. NESC (New England Sports Comitee) sanctioning body for MX in the northeast. Badger Dzielak, an actual person. I think his real name was Ed though.
