If I'm going somewhere I shouldn't, stop me. But I've always kind of wondered what Justin's story is - like where he came from and stuff. I've seen his mom, but never his dad. Not on any social networking, at the races.. Never. I might be an idiot and/or blind but I just wondered. I've been pretty negative towards his personality/riding but I figure maybe I should learn more about him before I criticize. A person doesn't get to his level just by "chilling"

Also like his Cirrus that he posts pics of, looks like a sweet way to get around.

I don't know them at all, so someone feel free to jump in and correct me if I'm way off base here, but I "think" I remember hearing on one of the shows (might have been DMXS) that his dad had an injury or accident or something of that nature that kept him from being able to work when Justin was growing up, which allowed him the time to be able to take Justin riding during the day. Once again, if I'm wrong, just let me know and I will be happy to admit so.

Guy posted a pic of the Honda pits last year and Barcias dad was in the background.

I view relatives of the riders like I do umpires/referees. If I dont notice them, thats a good thing.

not sure why people don't like him... sure he's been a bonehead a few times but they're motorcycle racers, they aren't perceived to be ambassadors for all...

as for his dad, i've always been curious as well.

hope he can win a few this season and be in contention at the end, i like the dude and i really like his NFG riding style.

edited... would hate to get dude in hot water or pissed off. @Matthes, it doesn't surprise me, all about that dolla' bill with some

You have just captured many in the industry to a tee unfortunately. Generally when someone is pissed at me you can follow the money & find out why. I have nothing invested in a rider/team whatever and can speak freely with no blinders on and many, many, many, many people cannot see past those. Oh well...

BTW, I have no clue who you're talking about or if it's true or not but your story is very much what I see in the pits.

Barcia's dad is a super nice guy. He goes by the name of Shaggy and he lives in Coolsville.

Back in the day, Shaggy got together with a couple of friends and started a mystery solving team called Mystery, Inc.

While working with the team, Shaggy met Daphne Blake and they were soon married.

Together they have 2 children, Justin and Moonblanket. Shaggy mostly hangs back these days and lets Justin do his thing.

As for JB51's dad, I've met Don Barcia a couple times and he seemed like a great guy. Also, he seems to be well respected in the motocross community/industry. It seems to me staying out of the spotlight is the best route for a parent of a professional athlete to take. Like the Carmichael's and Dungey's for example.

Barcias Mom seems to have a strong personality.

It will be interesting to see if he adapts to that reverse engine p.o.s

What about Mike Alessi's dad? Has anyone ever heard of him? I never seem to recall seeing him at any of the races Mike has been to.

Yeah, you don't see him around much. I've heard he's hands off and very laid back.

He's more behind the scenes handling media contracts and stuff with his Trapper Keeper and wide ruled notebook paper. Mathis knows.

I saw his dad at some of the am races like Mini Os and he seems like a decent guy. He was always smiling and nice to people.

I can understand how some folks get a bit of a bad idea about the kid based on some of his on-track antics...notably during his 250 era; but, nowadays...on the 450...?

He is SOLID.

He's funny and positive...dare I say "up-beat" and fun to be around.

He is dedicated to winning races and pursuing a Red Plate w/ "1" on it.

I wish him and his team the best.

When I watch Justin ride I see a young man that rides with all his heart. As he has matured in the 450 class I see someone I would love to have on my team or be a spokesman for my products. He is my current favorite and I hope he manages to put all the pieces together and win races and maybe a championship.

I'm a fan of his riding and love his interviews. Not a fan of his "beard/goatee" thing though, haha

I have respect for the family. I can't remember where I saw it or read it, but they said his family was so poor they lived in a motorhome for a while and basically Justin's success was a make it or break it for them so they didn't end up on the street at the time. He seems very down to earth in reality. I was impressed by this vid in his 250 days for not being too extravagant.
