Looks like a 2014 yz250f (have the same bike) if thats the case thats the subframe and I hardly think that broken subframe mounting points or even the whole frame would total the bike. $7k new, even after a year and 20 hours should still be worth about 4-6k, doubt the frame costs that much. Makes me nervous though since I have progressive as well on mine but not collision, just theft, fire, etc.

The frame is broken and those pieces are not available nor serviceable in a manufacturers approved method. Huge liability issue. Therefore the frame must be replaced. That changes the serial number which affects the titling of the motorcycle which is why the insurance company would deem it a total loss. Different states have different titling laws. I've seen many easily repairable vehicles hit the salvage pool for the same reasons.

When the 14 model pictures were first released I commented that the subframe mounts on that side of the bike were going to be a weak point in a crash. Some people laughed.....just saying.Wink

Most insurance polices won't pay if the bike is damaged/wrecked during a competition event. I don't remember any of the policies saying if the vehicle is on a track they won't pay, that's just not the kind of language that would be used.

If the bike was being ridden on a track but not in competition, they may still be responsible for the loss.

If the insurance company refused to pay (after determining it was totaled) and said it was because the bike was on a track, you need have them show you wording on the policy that they used to exclude coverage. If if says competition and not on the track, they are still responsible for the loss.

If it is as above and they still refuse to pay, call your State Insurance Commission and explain the situation.

If the coverage is excluded in the policy, ask them to refund all of the premiums you have paid since they won't cover a loss.

The whole concept of collision coverage on an MX bike seems out there to me, and sounds like somebody is not understanding their coverage.

Can cousin Jim Bob get collision on his stock car? He only rides it on weekends...

some states require collision, I have our bikes insured thru Geico, they would not let me take out theft only so I had to get collision too. btw if your worried about your bike ever falling out of the back of the truck you will need comprehensive also. at least I think that was what it's called. my premium for both our bikes, a 2013 450 and 2014 250, is about $200 a year.

Same here. My insurance company won't just do fire and theft.
But I think full coverage is good in case I have a wreck pulling my trailer. My bike is not covered otherwise.
I would never try to turn in a claim for racing damage. I don't think any policy covers that.

But if you weren't racing I think it would work. People around here do it all the time on side by sides and quads when they wreck them and have major damage.

There's a reason insurance companies own huge skyscrapers and make billions of dollars every year. They usually find some excuse not to pay claims that are clearly owed. Their moto: "If you don't like it, sue us." That's what we are forced to do most of the time to get them to do the right thing, something they should have just done at the beginning voluntarily, but they dont.

Sad thing is, they are now one of the best ones. State Farm is seriously going down the shitter in their claims handling.

You have so much wrong information its funny have you not read a paper or watched the news the last few years or even looked at how your health insurance has changed ???. The affordable care act (obamacare) changed insurance rules so your coverage won’t top out,so if it costs 400k to stay alive they pay 400K The law also states that you must have health insurance.

Health reform ended lifetime limits in 2010, meaning health plans can no longer cap the amount of money spent on essential health benefits during the entire time you are enrolled in the plan. And beginning in 2014, the law prohibits health plans from imposing annual limits. Also you can get covered for preexisting conditions and keep your kids on your plan until their 26.

Is this a bad thing or a good thing? If I was dying and needed 400K to live I think it would be a good thing.
nevermind the whole issue with it costing 400k to keep you alive...you woulda thought they woulda targeted that problem before forcing everyone to pay....

I can tell you Progressive Insurance is diligent about billing for their premiums. I cancelled with them 8 years ago to get insurance from someone else, and Progressive didn't acknowledge the cancellation and have been billing me about $200 for 8 years. Turned it over to the collector, etc. Just got another collectors notice and had to shake my head. Screw 'em!

No you can't.
You can insure against theft.
Costs about $115.00 a year per late model bike.

Most policies exclude coverage if damaged during "organized racing".

How many of you have read your insurance policies? Know what you are getting before signing, I deal with this stuff every day at work with homeowners insurance they walk in and tell their agent "I want the cheapest you got". Then when it comes time to report a claim they're dumbfounded about the coverage and high deductible.

Speaking of insurance...
I spent 15 minutes on Geico.com to see if I can get a better rate than my current AAA policy.

I didn't save 15% or more. Apples to apples- the Geico quote is $20 more than my current annual policy.

Sure you can. There's a dumb agent in every town that will write it. Try claiming it though and you might just be in for a surprise. Here locally about ten years ago, you could get motorcycle coverage and they were paying to fix blown up engines at a local shop. I was just WTF??? Never would have believed it, but I saw it happen.

I know that of you take a car to the track and it is totaled while you are on the track the insurance will not cover it as it was used for racing purposes

It really depends on the policy, but every normal street vehicle policy seems to exclude any event that is timed (i.e., a race...). For automobiles you can definitely buy specific on-track insurance, though. Lots of guys with big dollar race cars have it.

You have collision insurance on your car...do you drive the piss out of your car, and then purposely total it?

I have insurance on my bike...theft and fire...it has never occurred to me to file a claim for crashing my bike.

A buddy of mine has his quad (a hunting quad) roll off a flat bed trailer going about 50 MPH...completely destroyed that thing. His insurance replaced it. (I'm not sure if my bike insurance would cover that-I will be looking into it...and I'm not sure if that is the same thing as collision coverage?)

The only payout I personally know of is when a chain broke and cracked the case. They fixed the motor.

Technically no. However in a no fault state it is about as much forcing as they can do.
