A quick little story about what kind of guy he is....

A few years back I rented Copper Land to have the first annual "Huckfest" (little did we know it would be the last too, but that's another story).

I had put the word out on vital and a few other spots, and let trey's mom know as well. When we got to Stillwater, I figured I needed somebody at the gate collecting money, so the night before I asked the bartender at outback if her and her friend wanted to make some cash. They showed up bright and early the next morning and I gave them a list of "comps". I had told everybody that if you have a national number, you got in for free.....

Well, a shit-ton of people ended up coming and after about an hour or so, my gate girl had been charging everybody that came through the gate....including Robbie Reynard, Justin Boggle (who was still an amateur), and Trey. Word got back to me that RR's girlfriend/wife was making a bit if a scene telling the girl that "he's Robbie Reynard, he shouldn't have to pay!" My girl stuck to her guns and made them pay.

So I got get $40 out of my wallet and plan on giving trey and Robbie their money back. I first go to Robbie's van and introduce myself and explain what happened and that I was giving him his money back. His only reply was "just put it on that bag". Now he may be the nicest guy in the world, but he seemed very short and rude.

Then I head over to trey's van. This was the year he was fighting for his national championship. I introduce myself and he comes over to shake my hand and thank me for renting the track and allowing everybody to come out and ride. I explain to him about the gate and that he was supposed to be a comp. He asked "did everybody else pay, and did you have to pay to rent the track?" I told him yes and he said "then you keep my $20. If everybody else paid, then so should I". I told him that I appreciated that, but it was worth $20 to me to see him ride." He thanked me again, shook my hand and continued to get geared up.

Halfway through the day, I was chatting with his mom and shooting the breeze. He pulled back into their pits and his mom introduced us...he told her that he already meet me, then thanked me again for letting everybody ride.

A little later on the track, I was jumping a jump and heard him coming. I was on the far left side of a jump and he passed me completely sideways....and extremely close to me!!!! I rode another lap and pulled off, thinking I just about took him out while he's trying to get a national championship. Him and Justin were doing a moto, so at the end he rode up to my pit to apologize for getting so close. I told him I thought it was my fault. He said "you kept your line, I'm the goon that go cross rutted and almost hit you, sorry!!!"

After that trip, I knew I'd always be a Trey Canard fan!!!!

You may not like his religious beliefs, but it's hard to not admire his conviction....in all he does. To me, there's no better embassitor for our sport!!!!

Thanks for sharing that. Trey is definitely an admirable person.

Mom 241 has done a great job of raising a fine young man. I would be proud to be his friend even if he didn't race dirt bikes. He is my favorite guy on the track.

Thanks ML512!

I think your confused about that whole "God thing", what Trey is "a decent and genuine person" is what that whole "God thing" is all about, what you see in Trey is a living example of what God wants Christian people to be like, if every person claiming to be a Christian acted like Trey does, perhaps you would be a fan of the whole "God thing". I'm not trying to start anything, I just truly believe that the reason people are drawn to Trey is because of his faith, even if they don't see it.

I don't think that's true. There are good people who religious, and there are good people who aren't religious. There are also assholes who are religious, and assholes who aren't religious. People tend to act the way they truly are, independent of their religious affiliation. Those who happen to be religious just use that religion as a justification for why they act the way they act. If people were drawn to Trey because of his faith, then they'd be drawn to all the other religious riders as well.

I hear what your saying, my point wasn't that its impossible to be a good person without being a Christian, what I was saying was that if all Christians were as good of people as trey is then perhaps the world would view more Christians in a better light, and there might be more fans of the whole "God thing"
Yeah, but that's my point. Whether people are good or not really doesn't have much to do with their religious beliefs. So you'll never have all Christians be as nice of people as Trey, simply because there are plenty of not-so-great people born into religious households. Same goes for any other religion, or non-religion.

Trey comes across as a very grateful person, given all he has been through it seems somewhat counter intuitive. I really like that about him. Though some will inexplicable be offended (turned off) by where ultimately he derives his gratitude from, that's his story, that is where he has found inspiration and peace. Strange that some would knock him for expressing himself like that. From my perspective if you get on the box feel free to say what you want.

On and off the bike the dude is just straight up inspiring.

Trey is such a great role model. His family is amazing and just great people. All the people discrediting his beliefs should just look at it for what it is. The thought of living a good life and being good to others is all it really is. To try and discredit it is really futile and not good for all in the long run. It is true that a large percent of people live and make good decisions because of their beliefs and trying to discredit it just hurts you in the long run once that large percent of people decide that there is no reason to do the right thing any more. I know, it's not you or you or me but so many really do. Talking down on it makes you look simple and a bit trashy. I could say it doesn't affect you but it does actually and in a good way for now. You just don't notice at the moment. When you finally have no one believing, that's when you will see the worst of life. At the very least it should not offend you in any way. That's just selfish and petty. I am not religious at all but I know what it is about.

For those of you who don't think Trey is as fast as KR, I disagree! I hope he is holding back a little to let his body/mind catch up to the pace. It's been a long time since he's gone this far without getting hurt. Also, isn't he riding a bike that isn't too well liked by others? Honda has been great to Trey though.

As far as believing goes...I think some of you cats need a few more REAL life threatening situations. It took me a few. I don't preach about it because I'm not sold on everything, but I think there might be 'something' out there. Regardless, I try to be the best person I can, and if there is a God, hopefully he isn't disappointed.

Best of luck to you Trey (if you end up reading this).
Agreed on all points. You know the old saying, "there's no Athiests in a foxhole" .When he kept missing the Laroccos's leap when he was racing KR, I couldn't help but think it was either the lack of HP on his Honda or him not taking too many chances, since he has come this far without another injury. I was yelling at the TV when he only doubled it.

"Leave it at home"?
Trey is a grown man that has the ability to think for himself. Obviously he is a respectable and popular rider that presents himself well and admired by many so he is doing something right.

That's fine but just your opinion and if you ever get on the box you can say so. Trey doesn't agree with you so when he gets on the box he expresses himself as he sees fit. If you don't like him or root for him because of it that is fine and your prerogative as well. No big deal.

I love it..... Too many hypocrites is why I don't believe in God. That's like saying "I don't go to IN-N-OUT because of all the hungry people there" . Or "I don't go to the gym because of all people who are out of shape there". We are all hypocrites. We have all lied, stolen and cheated. Get in line son.

"I am not religious" is a form of religion. If you don't believe, that is your religion.

"I am not religious" is in no way a religion. Words should mean something. Now to keep this post relevant. That picture of his one handed bar dragger IS devine. I hope he gets some wins soon, and I'd be very surprised if he didn't.

Mark 16:15English Standard Version (ESV)

15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.

philG, as a disciple of Jesus Christ, Trey Canard can't just keep that private. Jesus has commissioned him to share the Gospel with others. Jesus also says that many people won't accept it, and that the messenger and message will be mocked and derided.

If Jesus is the Living God and you are created in his image and as his brother, He will not keep that private and secret from you. He will seek you out and bring the Gospel into your consciousness. No Christian can force you to believe anything though.

Trey expresses and shares his faith every chance he gets. That's the great commission. Trey is obedient to his Lord and Saviour. I admire his faithfulness. Choose you this day whom you will serve. Trey has chosen wisely.

Why are we focussing on religion? Let's just root for the guy because he's a bad dude who gives it everything he has at every race.

Like a lot of people i really love Trey has a rider, he has an amazing style and a great personality.
But him bringing religion all the time just ruins it... I don't follow him on twitter or anywhere because of that.

He is a public person and should keep his religion private, or atleast not push it so much. What should kids believe, that they will succeed with hard training or thanks to trey's imaginary friend ?... i dont believe he should speaks this way live on tv

This quote should apply to him
