Did you get it checked out?
I have been watching this thread and hope to see you respond with "I just needed to take a shit"
or something not serious. Hope you are OK.

Get it checked out. You only get one liver.
Cool thing about a liver is it can regenerate, you could have as little as 25% of your liver left and as long as its healthy the rest will grow back.

The doctor in me says it's a simple case of backed up testicular fluids. You can either sec medicate or find a partner of your favorite persuasion and evacuate the excess. OR you could go see a real doctor and get fixed up. How smart are you bro?

That's why I drink! But its still very important. I wouldn't twiddle my thumbs if I thought my liver was jacked up.

What's the verdict jeffro? My money is on a hernia. If it is a hernia it could be pretty serious if the bowel gets the blood circulation cut off.

Hey guys.....thanks for all the colorful thoughts and advice.

I posted this , this morning before I took off for work and then later morning I got a call from PC wondering if I was at the doctors. I told him I wasn't , but he informed me about some of the replies here and he seemed concerned ( Thanks PC! )

So after that call I decided to call my doctor and ask her opinion. I left a message and she called me back about a 1/2hr later. She tried to urge me to come in , but she knows how I am , and I'm not going in unless I think there is no other choice. She told me that it " Sounds like what I have is a liver contusion. Pretty common for people in car wrecks and so forth and the swelling could last a few days to damn near a month depending on how hard I hit it. That SUCKS because it aches!

She said if I had already made it a week and haven't died , my chance seem pretty good haha. Anyways......she lectured me to stay off the bike or doing anything to strenuous until all the swelling had gone away. She said it's pretty easy to damage it further after it's been swollen like that.

Anyways....just giving you a heads up. BTW....she told me not to drink either.....but I called bullshit on that and I'm sucking down some cool beers tonight anyways!

Would a kidney belt have helped in prevention? I haven't worn mine in years, but maybe should start again...

As a fat old fucker I can tell you I always wear my kidney belt or I feel like I took 10 rounds all to the gut. Seriously., it's as important as gloves...maybe not boots though.

The reason to stay away from Tylenol (acetaminophen) and alcohol is because they are toxic to the liver. If you damaged your liver, you may be fine with rest, but you may experience more consequences. You spoke with a doctor, so that's good. She urged you to get checked out, as your friends have, and they are all right. It would be impossible to diagnose you over the phone. Careful with this injury. If you refuse to seek a diagnosis, at least follow your doctor's advice. In the meantime, you have the internet. Watch for symptoms of liver distress. Put the beer down. Good luck.

Thank you brotha! I'm not over doing it tonight....since I don't drink much anyways. Just a couple beers on a Friday night after a grueling week of work. No riding , no running , no lifting , basically not straining myself at all until all this swelling goes away.

Jeff you even think that going to the doctor she could give you something to make the swelling go down?...Seems you're more concerned about "swilling" than "swelling"...Tongue

One time I ate shit at Elsinore. Knocked myself out and after that I went home and my stomach hurt real bad if I tried to sit up, but felt ok if I didn't move much. My wife was so pissed I refused to go to the Docs. I told her I'd see how I felt in the morning.

Woke up at 3am coughing up blood. Wife loads my half dead ass up in the car takes me to the ER and the doc tells me he has good news and bad news. First the good news, I'm going to live. Bad news, I'm internaly bleeding and have 3 pints of blood in my stomach and would die within 2 hours without surgery. Severely lacerated spleen. Ended up losing it during surgery, had 4 broken ribs and a collapsed lung. I even had a broken thumb and didn't even know it. I was fucked up, but because of my pain tolerance and stubboness, it damn near left my wife a widow and kids fatherless.

Nowadays, I take no chances. If I have bad gas, I get a bit skiddish. Internals are not to be fucked with. You only live once, take care of your health and live to ride another day.

I hear ya Dean. If I thought it was more dangerous.....I'd of already checked myself in. I haven't had any blood coming out in any weird places yet and it's been a week now. I did have blood in some stuff I coughed up the night after my wreck , but that cleared up the next day. Believe me....I'm taking it easy until all this swelling goes away.
