Let me see if I got this straight -

You're having a feud with a reporter whom you feel is portraying you/your team in a negative light. So, you come up with an ingenious plan on how to either control the message or prevent a negative one from being printed. Only good news - no more bad press and we're not gonna contribute to the success of the reporter in any way if we can avoid it.

However, you continually remind yourself that in the process of executing this plan you must not provide this reporter with a scenario that paints you in an extremely negative light or hand him an epic story he couldn't have concocted in his wildest dreams. Remember now, NO DRAMA! This would only give the reporter something to write about so we must avoid that at all costs.

Is that pretty much the gist of it?

Well then... mission accomplished!

It appears to have been so successful it makes the Normandy invasion battle plan look like it was hurriedly written... on notebook paper... then shown to Hitler... before the invasion... who then posted it online for all the world to see.

A smashing success and monumental achievement by any standard of measure.

Well done, that'll show that wascally weporter.

Cool
to quote bobby "afuckingmazing"!! matthes is straight up as you could get and they should be standing in line waiting for an interview but instead tony starts "another" tirade...was hoping the trip north of the border would help, looks like its embellished the faults/issues of the alessi family even more. i used to like mike until his blatant take out on the rch boy earlier this year, but then again, thats just another "allessiism"!!

I feel so sorry for Jeff and Mike.

Of course they have to stick by their dad, he is their blood and he's who they look to for guidance.

But in reality, they both know well that Tony has problems, but like most kids they will defend him to the end. What surprises me is that Mr. Genova has allowed this to continue, most business people with a goal would have changed course by now.

I just wish they both could have broken free from their dad years ago, they could have done so much more. I have watched these guys since they were kids in 96, there is no way I would have ever thought it would turn out like this back then...

Sure, maybe it was a bit dramatic for mathes to freak out and say " I have to tweet this." But if someone asked me to sign that when I'm shooting a video, at the very least I would laugh and tell all my friends!

Mathes has the balls to post photos and tweets like that, he knew we was going to start something, and I'm happily entertained by it!

I doubt Genova cares much, he seems to have more of a "Grab a beer and let it burn" philosophy.

Here's the deal, I have not spoken to Tony since Washougal last year after he lost it and never apologized to me. He was WAY out of line there but whatever, he doesn't need me and I don't need him. However I have interviewed Mike under the tent at a couple of SX's this year, had him on the Pulp show a few times (including Tickle-gate when Mike G asked to come on) & had Mike on the show 3 weeks ago in a positive conversation about how he likes Canada.

Today I was just doing my thing, interviewing riders about their race when I went to talk to Vince & Mike about their day. I record these interviews and put them straight up on Pulp. I saw Vince, asked him for an interview and he said sure if Tony lets him. I was confused because I hadn't needed Tony's "clearance" for Mike at the 2-3 SX's this year. But whatever...

Then Tony presents me with these terms and conditions that truthfully, are a joke. I would never agree to have Genova read anything before it prints, I would never "hide" a document I signed from the public, I would not ask for permission to enter a teams pits. I would just not bother...but I have talked to Mike or Cunningham under their tent. Keep in mind, I haven't done anything to the family but report on what they have done and offered up an opinion here or there on what/why the reasons Mike's career hasn't been as successful as many people thought. Also keep in mind some people in my shoes would NEVER EVER talk to Mike Alessi or Genova ever again...not only do I talk to them, I have helped out MIke with goggle stuff he's needed because I like Mike--I think at the end of the day he does some weird things but he's a nice guy.

Anyways, when I finished laughing and asked Tony if he was serious...and he was, I said I would have to look at this more. Keep in mind he gave it to me. Generally speaking any contracts that are agreed to by any two parties HAS TWO COPIES. So I figured this one was mine? Then I said that I'm not interviewing his riders and he lost it saying I had to give him the contract back.

He followed me out of his tent calling me a "mother fucker", said I'm not protected in Canada, that no one likes me in Canada or in the USA, that I think I'm some big guy and if I wanted to "go"...I'm telling him to go away and he just screwed himself and Genova out of any press and a possible magazine feature on how the team is enjoying the outdoors. The Leading Edge Kawasaki owner had to tell him to step outside the LE tent because it was "Washougal 2013" all over. He kept yelling that all I was there for was to talk shit on his riders and the series (huh? I'm Canadian and spend my own money to go to a race every year...any other USA media guy do that?) blah blah blah.

Here's how it could have gone-

A--Me walking in to tent and interviewing Vince and Mike on their days and I walk away and post their interviews.

B- Me trying to talk to Vince or Mike and them saying they couldn't talk to me on Tony's orders and I walk away.

C- Tony says you can't interview riders w/o signing this contract, here's your copy, I refuse and walk away.

D- Tony says I have to agree to these terms but can't tell anyone about our "deal", I refuse, keep the contract and he calls me a mother fucker and yells and screams and embarrasses himself and his team yet again.

Wow, such big breaking news. Tony doesn't like Matthes but agrees to a team interview with some conditions. Matthes doesn't like it so he runs and posts it online as a "meltdown" like a 12 year old would do. What a fucking joke.
Good move on Tony's part from what I've seen in the past.

Gee, thanks for clearing that up private obvious. I'd be pissed too if a so called journalist ran off with a written agreement that was meant for the 2 parties involved and decided to post it online.

Tony really needs help.

MX sports and the AMA should pay the Alessi circus whatever they want to race in the US, the controversy, hilarity and entertainment they bring to racing is priceless.

Do you think if an NFL head coach made the same requests as Tony did that the story would not be on the NFL network,ESPN,etc and every sports page the next morning?

I think tony likes the attention. there is no other explanation. bat shit crazy.

how the fuck can he not lay low for more than 5 races. let his kids ride and quite trying to be the center of attention.

no way in hell that Mathes did anything wrong. trying to put this on him makes you look like an idiot (to anyone lashing out at steve).

Tony Alessi, a professional sports team manager for a high profile team goes off on a journalist and has a total meltdown in the pits and that's not news? Especially considering the past tony has with meltdowns and with said journalist? C'mon dude, get real!

You put the name of any other team manager in the pits having a meltdown and going off on a journalist and you don't think it would be news in our sport? In any sport?

Wow.... It seems pretty hard to criticize Mike after understanding what his father is like.

In all the footage of Mike I have ever seen, he seems to be humble and very respectful. Perhaps off camera, he is different but, he seems to go out of the way for his fans and be a genuinely nice guy.

For what Mike has had to put up with all his life growing up with a dad like that, I think he has overcome a lot.
Tony has also created opportunities for the boys and supported them more than most fathers would. I want to believe he means well but can come off too passionate and engaged.

So why do you feel the need to tell the world about this ? You must really get off starting yet another Alessi bashing thread ......whatever gets your rocks off. But if you ask me, you whining like a baby makes you no better than the guy you are complaining about
I agree too...great point
Bullshit.

He's media. It's his job to report. Not to be held ransom to some sort of 2 bit contract that will come off as alessi weekly pr spin.

If you can't behave in a civil manner towards said media, then A, you're a fuckin dimwit and B, you're not doing yourself any favours so why should they?

It's hilarious that you want the media to sign a contract saying that your team has final say over editorial..it's amazing you would think this was cool but then the provision where the media guy can't tell anyone he signed it? Let's just humor that and say that this was somehow normal...you don't have a second copy for the media guy to take for his records?

If you're trying to be sneaky and underhanded by not giving someone a copy of what they sign AND you're trying to say that said person can't tell anyone about what they signed--well, in my opinion, you deserve to get called out for all the world to see.

More people should call out complete bullshit when it happens...maybe then there would be less bullshit in the world?

I could see myself wanting to see Mike do better if his dad would go away.
Is tony causing mike to go slow through the hoops. Is tony causing mike too look back at each corner and jump...mike is holding mike back...he needs to step up his speed.

The problem is to every rational person, Steve's handling of the incidents with your family appear even handed and professional.

After Washougal last year, Steve did not have Tony on the PulpMX Show to 'set him up'. He had him on the show to tell his side of the story. Is it Steve's fault Tony completely lost his marbles and provided all those comical sound drops which must irk Tony to this day? The only reason people still talk about your bad joke gone wrong at Washougal is because Tony made it such an absurd and comical event out it. If not for Tony...the whole issue would have been long forgotten before the season was even over.

The world and Steve Matthes are not out to get the Alessis or MCR. It was only 3 weeks ago that Mike was on the PulpPX show...and he was treated 100% professionally. If someone listens to that show without knowing the history, you could even conclude that Steve is a friend to Mike. About the only thing Steve even busted on Mike a little bit was how he thought it was going to be cold in Canada. Mike even laughed about it.

Mike was on from 1:23 to 1:41....

So, what on earth would lead any rational person to conclude that Steve is now 'desperate' to ambush MCR or Mike/Vince...and thus demand Steve sign a 'contract' to talk to Mike or Vince. The contract was 100x more interesting than anything Vince or Mike would have said about the race at Regina, and hence..what happened happened. If MCR had just let Steve interview the guys....you would have had a typical post race interview...and a chance to get more exposure.

Again...the world is not out to get you guys...but the fact that you are so paranoid and convinced they are is endlessly comical and entertaining to most people. It is amazing that Tony can not see that...and instead he just keeps feeding the fire.

Matthes, the sweet irony is that Tony's attempt to restrict your content has actually given you more content.
