Seriously? Promoter revenue, excitement that draws even those who aren't long-time fans, drama, and the "underdog" appeal of James being one of the vets...

Like I mentioned before...and I heard from the mouth of a high-end Feld employee, James Stewart is the biggest ticket draw in SX today. Bigger than Villopoto...bigger than Reed...bigger than Roczen & bigger than Dungey. He said if they compare ticket revenue from when James is competing & when he's been out because of one thing or another...there is a huge difference! You can say that some haters just want to see him crash, but most are just amazed by how he rides.

Although Ryan Villopoto has been dominant the last four years, as was RC before him & MC before that...and RV has a lot of fans, NOBODY likes to see one rider take an easy (seemingly) win every single race. James Stewart adds some spice to that mix that most everybody likes. When he's running up through the pack, we scream at the TV...when he does things on a motorcycle that nobody has done yet, we are amazed...and when he wins we smile that big, familiar smile with him. James gets fans involved emotionally.

To see James win two outdoor national motos back to back shows that he's made fools of all his critics & haters...and those idiots are many. It's good to see him rub their noses in it, and show them...and himself, that he can still be the FMOTP.

I'm not saying that RV, Reed, Roczen & the rest are not amazing racers. They are the best in the world...and I love to watch them ride, but...James Stewart winning is good for the sport, today! Smile

I was thinking the same thing. I would like to know the answer to this too

I am thrilled to see him win, I like his interviews and the way he carries himself. I am happy to see hard work for that team starting to pay off. I wouldn't say the sport is changing because Stewart is winning, I would rephrase that to say I am happy to see him winning.

What I've noticed sin SX ended is that alot of RV fanboys including some of his relatives who frequent this site, have not been posting like they were when he was racing. Does that mean they are only fans of the man and not the sport.
Hell i have lost interest in some seasons when JS7 was injured. Still love the sport. Still ride tracks. Jesus Christ.

Dude.....my lack of posting lately has come from working 60+hr weeks. I have a Sunday off and decided to see what was up. And on top of that....it's riding season.....not much spare time in my life right now.

With James Stewart you get the whole package. The Talent on the bike, but also the personality, family, crashes, and drama. If you looked at just results with out watching any of the races for the past 4 or 5 years you would think James wasn't that great, but when you see him ride and see him in interviews it all makes sense why he has such a large following.

There is also an aspect of legend about him that dates back to the 2 stroke/ early 4 stroke days. He was the only guy to really ever be a serious challenge to Carmichael outdoors. He hasn't fully lived up to the expectations that people have placed on him, but when ever he is out front it reminds people of the days he was dominate.

I can tell you from a moto web site owner stand point , Stewart being in a series and doing well definitely drives way more traffic to the site. Chad Reed doing well drives traffic just as much. Both Reedy and Stew transcend the sport and they are both huge draws, but with Chad it seems to be more about results. When Chad's doing well, people flock to read about it, but when he's doing pourly interest fades. With Stewy it doesn't matter as much. He's so polarizing that there's as many people cheering for him to fail as there are cheering for his successes. Either way, no matter who's the Champion, the 2-2 and the 7 are the flagships of our sport at the moment IMO.

James a magnetic sumbitch, that's for sure. I got tired of him in 2010 (dumb moves on the track (Phoenix), pulling out of mx after Unadilla, Bubba's World) and was looking forward to a promising RV and Canard fan experience in the coming years, but just before the 2011 season began he reeled me back in with his damn personality. Sitting on a couch opposite his Nike 6.0 teammate and smiling and telling funny stories and overall just making Ryan Dungey look like a wet spongy. Next thing I knew I was full steam ahead aboard the Bubba train and just itching for him to put a whupin on these little Ryan brats everyone was hailing as the new motolords (which probably would've happened if not for those meddling Yamaha engineers).

The dude can crack me up (see below) or leave me practically speechless (see Toronto 2014). Happy to be a fan.
