What if...there was a GP in the U.S. after the National season, but before the MXoN? (Heard that as a rumor from a very interesting source on Friday.)

To answer the first question, no, not this year...maybe in the future.

It's not a 'what if...', it's a 'depends...'

It depends on what they pay Luongo.

And after that, why would the US riders join in? There is nothing to gain for them, unless their employers tell them to race it.

I think it would be awesome but im british so it would really depend what the american fans thought of it and if they would get behind it. Imo a world championship should stop in america .

I highly suggest prize money if they want Americans to enter.

That would make it the 4th most exciting race in the season, after:
MXDN
SX opening
MX opening
GP "grand finale"

So that would be awesome if the team/riders contracts were including a little addendum Smile

For TV, for a national coverage, it would be good too, I guess lots of people would be rooting for american riders, which is normal. That is how many fans start to follow a sport then they get attached to it Smile

Hmmm, GuyB starting a rumor on Vital. OK, I'll play. So what is the second question?

Where might this rumored USGP be held?

It'd be great to see them all race together again although it'd probably take a lot of the shine off the MXdN

Personally I thought it was best where it was.Logistically the GP's were on their jaunt around the world and over that side of the planet already,to come back and do the rest of the series plus any domestic Championships then out for what would probably be an in and out job won't please them too much at the end of the season with the most prestigious race soon after too (MXdN).I don't see them being too keen on it

Still good for many fans though to see more racing,IMO it would be a bit of a non event at that date, would the US guys be up for it though??

What if... the factories and teams were behind it and there was a large purse. Think the AMA guys would show up then?

I don't think there is anything other than a whole bunch of money that will get the top Americans there. Sure would be cool though.

It is a given that we will never have a true world championship, but it would be really sweet if perhaps somehow the powers that be could come up with a lucrative, small stand alone world wide series. maybe like 3 races to have all the best riders attend. Have the tracks, purpose built for the event and then torn down so there wouldn't be any home field advantage. I know Im smoking dope but it would be cool.

Sadly, there still wouldn't be much incentive for American riders to join the fray.

I love this idea. Make 3 rounds part of each series points and force them all to qualify and race each other. Give me more of what you're smoking.

The only issue I see is the top guy's are not contracted to race a one off race that isn't part of the normal schedule, heck just look at this weekend there is about as many riders out as there are in.

it's a fantasy race that will need a big reason for them to show up and so far nobody has figured out how to pull it off.

Be real cool if it happened and we got to see the top 20 from both series get after it.

I've got it..... Have 1 MXGP race an AMA points paying race in addition to the regular GP points, and have 1 AMA race a points paying race for GP riders. That way they are forced to cross over once a year

Might help settle the "who's faster... AMA or GP riders" debate.

they race the shit out of the MEC. If you put enough money out there for the riders, and incentives to the factories, they will race.

Would be cool.

Would also mean all the euro teams had travel expenses to the US every year as well. I know i've read multiple times saying teams are struggling with travel for the GPS.

I don't see anyone throwing up a big purse to attract Americans. What would that say to the rest of the GP field?

How about make the last round of the GP's the Monster Energy Cup? Make the track easy enough for the poor GP guys and it's a race.

Boom - problem solved.

That would be cool but I doubt you'd find many AMA riders entering it. Nonetheless, it would be cool since I think more American fans are becoming fans of the GP riders now.

I totally agree. That's why I don't think it would be any different than Glen Helen. We can dream though.
