Been there at least 10 times and never any problems. I have stayed downtown, Hilton, Hyatt, and Sheraton and had a blast. Park your car and use the Marta. Train will take you wherever you need. Buckhead is the place to go after and the strip bars are plenty and GOOD! One year I walked from the Dome back to the Hilton alone after the race. Sure it was sketchy in places but keep quiet and keep moving. You will always have people beggin for money and dirtbags to wheelie boyz.
I am not present this year but whenever I go it's a great time. If you don't like city life then don't live there but once every 365 days Hotlanta puts on a AWESOME show and never lets supercross down. I would say good enough for two dates on the schedule.

I walked to hotel with family from race and got surrounded by guys offering to show us the way back safe for a fee. We declined and let's just say I have the one guys little knife in my cabinet. We won't be back to that place ever again. It was my second time and enough for us. "You see I was given a set of skills... lol.

Yep Van and trailer. In the gated locked parking lot for a Days Inn. The guard was in on it. Probably the worst weekend of our lives....Sad

The parking Deal happened to a friend of mine and I totally believe the other parking attendants were in on it too.

I know Georgia is a nice place but the crime down town seems right up there with the worst of them.

Atlanta is about a dark of city as you can get. The black people inside the city have the worse attitudes of anyone that I know of. Even the normal black people try to get out of the city and out of South Atlanta. Of course if you go too far outside you run into the rednecks and the meth labs.

There are a few pockets of really nice areas like Alpharetta, Dacula and Sugarloaf.

PS Don't give anyone money downtown for anything.

I was in Atlanta for a convention one time. About 25 years ago. Was at the bar one night when
a couple black guys sat next to me and asked the bar tender to change the tv to the local
Hawks game. She says "no were watching the Bulls", very few people there at the time.
So they got up and sat somewhere else. It was pretty apparent she just didn't like blacks.
I thought, I'm not giving this racist bitch any more of my tip money and also moved. I ended up
sitting with the 2 guys who's friends later started showing up. The first 2 guys were pretty
cool, one of the friends was total dick. All night long just went off on me about how the white
man was suppressing the black man. I just maintained America is full of opportunity, if the
the Vietnamese can succeed not even knowing the language you can too. Of course it may be
much harder but it's possible. Pretty soon one of the guys (I'm the only white guy at the table)
got tired of it to and backed my up. This guy was huge, arms bigger than my legs, solid muscle.
I'm thinking, glad this is not the guy that hates me. Anyway, turns out he is Joe Harris, retired
NFL with a Super Bowl ring. Ended up spending the next day with him going to Hawks playoff game.
Made a friend over awkward circumstances. funny how life works.

I spent some time in Atlanta for work a few years back and I took the advice of others and avioded the downtown area. I did love the Buckhead area for sure! There were a ton of cool bars, an ESPN Zone and tons of hot chicks everywhere!!! I didn't get attitude from anyone, or see anything that was shady going down. I also like the communities north of Atlanta, damn nice homes and towns.....the housing prices were amazing compared to the Portland area, huge brick houses with a big lot for far less than a starter home here.

Ofcourse, I am sure if I put myself in the wrong area and was exposed to the bad side then I would have a different opinon of Hotlanta, lol

Stopped at Waffle House by the airport about midnight after the race. They had a security guard by the front door and when I left my waitress said "be safe" when I left. Quite a contrast to home where we don't have Waffle House or security guards at restaurants (but we do have Cracker Barrel).

Not much different than some of the places around here in socal. My gf lives just outside a bad area. Last night there was a kids party at the house across the alley. The cops showed up, my gf's roommate was out there talking to them, and one of the parents from the party pushed a cop. The cops both drew on him while my gf's roommate charged him and almost took him down.

yeah, the atlanta experience can be good or bad. i went in 2005, im sitting at a red light on sat morning and a pickup truck rearends me, pushing me through the intersection. its a sick to your stomach feeling when wife has to go to the hospital and your vehicle is totaled and your'e 400 miles from home. she was ok, and the cops were cool and we made it to the races anyway, but i swear, everyone else seemed to make it as difficult as possible. i had just paid that truck off, too.

Atlanta has a nice airport; and according to the news, that's about it.

I have no love lost for Atlanta and have lived within arms distance (figuratively within 35 miles of it) all of my life. I do not go to Atlanta unless its for Supercross and its pretty much a straight shot for me and the family. I-20 to Marta at H.E. Holmes then the Train to Vine City and right across the street is the Dome. We have been several times and besides the one or two "thugs" that want to run their mouth even when outnumbered 50-1 by a bunch of rednecks its always been a pretty respectable exchange between people, white, black, Mexican..what have you, and there have always been enough security/police at the right places to make it a relatively safe trip across a metropolitan wasteland.

Ultimately, I enjoy my visits to Atlanta when I go, but it is no different than any other big city or small town. If you are an outsider just visiting, you are led by roadmaps of beauty and wonder to wherever you are going so you don't see the "bad" part of town or have to experience it. Besides one guy asking if I had extra tickets he could get from me so he could scalp yesterday, it was really a really uneventful visit.

All I can say is that with Google Maps and its "down the highway" capabilities, one should always study where they are going so they don't end up in places like West End, Vinings (near the Dome) or a few other places nearby that will put your life at risk for being in the wrong part of town, but again, you can find the same types of areas in the smallest of towns, anywhere.

I mean, if any places have, Best Buy Caskets in neon lights (you can see this from Interstate 20 driving through the West End area) you know theres something up.

Its nice having arlington within driving distance. Its a good atmosphere. A good friend of mine work as a customs officer at the atlanta airport. He said if we fly to an event he'd recommend another city. Saidthe crime in atlanta sucks and to pic a diff city. Evidently he is right

I have been making a 7 hour drive to the ATL SX with my buddies since 1992. We have stayed near the Dome, in Buckhead, up in Alpharetta and most recently in Midtown. I have walked all over the city and been to most of the clubs the city has to offer. We have never been robbed, threatened or felt like we were in any sort of danger. Maybe we have just been lucky. We are all grown up with wives and kids now, but we all look forward to our guy trip to the ATL.

Only time I go to Atlanta after dark is for Supercross and Braves games. There's some rough folks in Atlanta, but it gets better the farther you get from the downtown area.

For the record, Atlanta is not a good representation of the state of Georgia. We're generally nice people who look out for each other.

Don't stay in the city, you retards. GO NORTH. Then go down for the Supercross, then go BACK NORTH.
