Yep I found it on Craigslist. Just gotta wait for the right deal!

Motomike, on this I used Eagle1 mag wheel cleaner. Both on the aluminum and on the raw magnesium case covers to give it the dark look. I use meuratic acid on the water pump cover to turn it brown also.

I've also used dura gloss 851/951 can't remember which one it is, labeled mag wheel cleaner.

Love it !!
It looks ergonomically perfect too
It just looks like it would be comfortible . What bar bend did you use ?
It definetly belongs in the bad ass two stroke thread . I hope you fetch a good price for all your hours of cleaning
And spend all the money rescuing more bikes Smile

It has pro taper CR Hi's on it. My plan was to try them on my 450 and put my Henry/Reed's on the 125 but I never did it.

And thanks! My father in law is giving me a yz 490, so that might end up being my next project. It's from way before my era but it should be fun.

Put some pics up of that build as well if you do it! Really enjoyed all your pictures of this bike and am curious to how a restored YZ490 would come out, and I think you're the perfect guy! Great job once again!

Holy shit man that is epic. What an awesome bike.

Someone give this kid $3500 for that bike. And then mount it on your wall. Or hang it from a ceiling at Quaker stake and lube.

you mentioned you had to use WD40 to keep the magnesium cover from rusting..do you mean after you sandblasted it, you had to do this?

How's that acid wash process work? I assume you took it someplace to have that done? The brownish color looks good.

Also I'm curious how you polished the cases. What did you use to get into the nooks and crannies? Was that chemical deal too?

Nope i did it myself in my driveway. I just sandblasted the covers, then misted them with Mag wheel cleaner. it foams and reacts with the mag. i rinsed it off, and did this two or 3 times, same with the water pump cover (although i didnt sandblast that). then i just dried them off and soaked them in WD 40. magnesium is reactive, so i just make sure i spray wd40 on the raw stuff.

i polished the cases with a wire wheel on a drill, and then with a dremel using the scotch brite pad attachments.

I used the 2013 RMZ 250 front fender and plate, although 10-13 are the same as 08-13 450 ones are the same.

For the fender, the rear bolt holes for almost perfect, I just had to elongate them a bit. After that I had to drill two new front holes. After fitting the fender the front inner plate actually just fit on perfectly like it was made for it.
What year and model fork guards did you get?

Mine did not leave any grooves. I used the softest one that i could find, i believe it was stainless.

Very nice! Do the case-reed, Mikuni-equipped, RM125s have as bad or a reputation as the 02+ CR250s? haha
Nope. They are a great engine. And if you are a revver, they are magic.

I had an 02 RM125 that remains my favorite bike I've owned.

Sweet build! Gives me a lot of inspiration for my 05 rm125 I just started. I got a forum going on my build aswell, hoping it turns out as nice as this one!
